me every morning i wake up: i miss henry of skalitz
whos gonna tell him
yeah i had to.
My first contrapuntal poem and my first Dragon Age fanwork. So, very new turf for me, quite exciting!
Inspired by the scene in the DA2 quest Dissent in which Anders/Justice (almost) murder Ella. AO3 link here.

in the game, mutt and pebbles are always nearby when henry wakes up after sleepwalking. therefore, this is the sight he sees when he wakes up in some random shrub.
i love to imagine them following him loyally during the night as he stumbles along mindlessly, like okay time for one of dad’s nighttime strolls again i guess

Replaying ME3 for my story and DAMN I forget how well they capture the atmosphere of dread.
I think this is why ME3 is my favorite. I know a lot of folks love ME2 and I love them all, allllllmost-but-not-quite equally, but ME3 edges just a little further ahead for me because of this.
They're all good. But ME3 captures a FEELING of desperation, of racing against the clock, while even on a meta level (since it is the last game in the trilogy) that time is running out. Each game in the trilogy has a feeling to it, but the feeling of ME3 is the one that hurts the most. Even the music carries it through. It's like it took the soundtrack of ME2 but made it slower and sadder, while juxtaposed against a game that's such a fast-paced, angry frenzy.
What a masterpiece.
☝️ THIS.
All of the above, the dread, the desperation…Mass Effect 3 has been my favorite since it came out.
It never lets you forget that you’re losing. Even if you cure the genophage, even if you broker peace between the geth and the quarians, even when you ally with the leviathans, the game never once stops reminding you that in the big picture, across the entire galaxy, you’re still losing to the Reapers. It’s in all the side conversations, the mood when you talk to your crew, the news and the war updates, the codex and galaxy map entries, the music, the pacing. The Reapers are fantastic villains because the game succeeded in making you feel how relentless and oppressive they are.
And then the way it’s balanced with Shepard’s sheer stubborn refusal to believe there isn’t a chance they could survive.
I don’t think I’ve ever played another game that sucked me in so much to its atmosphere.
Thinking about the relationship between Joker and Kaidan.
How they've both been there since the beginning, how their first scene is them sitting together in the cockpit of the Normandy, teasing each other. How Joker sticks by Shepard's side the entire time while Kaidan doesn't. How Joker judges Kaidan for not coming to fight the Collectors. How Kaidan blames Joker for causing Shepard's first death. How Joker knows Kaidan is right to blame him. How they're both back on the Normandy in the end, saving the galaxy. How they can both lose the person they love (Shepard and EDI) to save everyone else.
And then we end with this, coming full circle.
yes, Bellara, yes. tell them.
