Hi, Iām SFSugarDoll, an actual, real-life, pro makeup artist, and I have anger issues that flair up when I see stupid shit like this. So, I thought I would revise and edit for you. TL:DR - this list in the pic is TRASH, DO WHATEVER U WANT TO UR FACE BBY.
okay, gonna insert my unsolicited opinion here ā>
1. āDonāt use tape around your eyesā I agree with this about 70% - The reasoning behind this is that unnecessary pulling and tugging around the eyes leads to premature wrinkles. Definitely donāt recommend for everyday use. If tape is necessary for a look, stick it on some fabric (shirt, jeans, etc) and make the adhesion less tacky- it will still stick to your skin but pull on your eyes less! A little tape can be a great tool to practice with!
2. āExpensive makeup doesnāt mean it is betterā This is a half truth. It is undeniable that drugstore makeup companies have stepped up their game BIG TIME over the last few years. However, luxury brands often use higher quality ingredients, as well as more cruelty free practices (generally speaking, I KNOW there are some unethical luxury brands. Trust me š)
3. āYOUTUBERS DIDNT GO TO COSMETOLOGY SCHOOLā well shit bitch, neither did I. ***You donāt need to attend cosmo school to do makeup. You CAN, but you definitely donāt have to do an entire cosmetology course just to paint faces. Makeup artistry licensing varies by state, of course.
4. āyou canāt learn makeup from watching a videoā yes you mf can what the fuck??? I started watching YouTube in 2008, 12 years later I have my own business and an ever-growing client list. YouTube still inspires me to this day, I still watch a tutorial and recreate it on myself every now and then!!!!
5. āYou donāt need to line your lips to wear liquid matte lipstickā you donāt NEED to do anything EVER in makeup. You CAN do whatEVER you WANT, the outcome may be different than what you wanted or expected, and thatās why we do certain things, I.e. primer before foundation, but no one, certainly not me, is here to tell you you CANNOT do something without doing something else first. Itās makeup. Itās art. Itās highly subjective and beautifully individual.
6. āUse a foundation that is your shade. Iām talking to you, white girlsā first of....UMMMM? Most people TRY to use foundation that matches their skin, theyāre probably just not properly educated on how thatās done. GET MATCHED AT YOUR LOCAL COSMETIC STORE\COUNTER PEOPLE. (And no, I donāt specifically mean Sephora!! Iāve had great experiences with department store counters!!) It can really be helpful. Ironically this statement is targeting white females (which yes, in the past Iāve been guilt of the Oompa Loompa face) but there is a rampant problem in the makeup industry regarding lacking adequate makeup shades for WOC. Itās disturbing, honestly. Brands need to continue to work on this, itās extremely important!!!! More shade ranges for everyone!!!!
7. āYOU DONT NEED EXPENSIVE MAKEUP...ā I agree to an extent, although as a pro artist that has gone through many trial and error processes with products on both ends of the $ spectrum, my expensive/pro products are WORTH THE INVESTMENT. I have both drugstore and lux products in my kit, but there are just some luxury products that will NEVER compare to drugstore. Thatās just the tea, sis.
8. āTHERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO DO MAKEUPā quick, someone catch my eyeballs, theyāre rolling so hard they popped out of the sockets! (this always goes without saying. Makeup is ART, and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Iām not in any place to tell you your makeup is ugly if it makes you feel good, fuck!)
9. āThe right eyeshadows..depend on your eye shape/face shapeā Not sure what the author means here- sure, eyebrows can make or break a face. Blending can make or break a whole look. Look at face charts to see what eyebrows might flatter your face shape the most if you arenāt sure!! Color wise though, Iām not here to tell anyone they canāt have purple eyebrows when they have orange hair, you know? To each her own.
10. āSTOP WATCHING CONTOURING TUTORIALSā bitch donāt tell me what to do bitch, cash me outside hoe
11. āEveryone has their own face shapeā ...no way. You donāt say....are you sure? Fuck. I thought we all just had circle faces š
12. āred eyeshadow can look goodā you bet your ass it can!!! So can every other color!!!! Blend baby blend!!
13. glitter is always a good ideaā personally, I bleed glitter. It runs in my veins. Pro artists know when glitter is and isnāt appropriate though, haha. Yadamean? Lol.
14. āthere is no such thing as day and night time makeupā GWORRRRL, have you ever SEEN day drag? Hahaha. No rules on when or what time you can do a day or night look, but itās def a must to acknowledge that there is a difference!
15. āHeavy makeup is pretty and you look goodā. !!!!!! HEAVY MAKEUP LOOKS GOOD. LIGHT/NATURAL MAKEUP LOOKS GOOD. NO MAKEUP LOOKS GOOD. ALL THE MAKEUP LOOKS GOOD. WE ARE NOT HERE TO POLICE WHO LOOKS GOOD AND WHO DOESNāT IF THEY FEELIN THEMSELVES!!!! Would I have done it on myself or a client? Maybe not. But bitch you feel good and thatās all that matters!! Thatās all that ever matters! Slay bitches!!!
