Nice! These Spazon Club models are so cool. Good to see them all painted up, too
Bandai MJ Hobby Monthly Journal Magazine June 1985 featuring the third part of the Spiral Zone illustrated story novel. Also the Spiral Zone Mad Lemming technical information and illustrations are included. This four wheeled combat vehicle was produced as a proto-type toy and displayed in the Bandai office showroom in Asakusa in Japan in 1986. It was never released as a 1/12 scale toy in 1986 by Bandai Japan due to poor sales. A Spiral Zone vehicle is featured in every chapter of the Spiral Zone story. Duchess Dire - Spiral Zone (Tonka)
“Let’s fight the Zone!”
Spiral Zonewas a surprisingly dark animated series, designed to sell the really magnificent toy line from (of all people) Tonka. The toy line was based on the even better toy line from Bandai in Japan.
The figures were six-inch tall articulated, with cloth and plastic suits. They were much bigger than the current GI Joe line, much more in line with the originals, even more so the late and much-lamented Action Jackson line from Mego.
Everybody seemed to lose faith in the line and the show at once, and both died before a year passed. Quite a shame, as both deserved more notice.
anyone want to give me $300!?
Because I bought most of my toys myself, when I was a kid, most of what I owned were knock-offs and discount buys. I had never even seen Spiral Zone when I got Cmdr. Courage, Overlord, and the Bull Whip.
I still think the Spiral Zone designs are great. Coincidentally the Venus Wars manga came out around the same time, making 1987 a banner year for monobike fans.
