Do you ever just think about what a massive impact you’ve had on the world? Think of everything that wouldn’t be in the world if it weren’t for you. Your childhood drawings that are still probably still kept hidden in your parents bedside drawer, the beaded bracelets you used to make at Brownies, the countless Christmas decorations and crafts you used to make in school. Think of all the words you’ve put down; the hundreds of thousands of words you’ve spilled your imagination out in, all the school essays and revision notes and lists. All the notes you’ve scribbled to your friends in class, every thank you letter and birthday card you’ve ever written, signed with your very own unique signature. Think of all the hundreds of thousands smiles and laughs you’ve produced in your life. If it hadn’t been for you, the world would be down at least one thousand smiles. All the doodles that have found their way into the recycling bin, all the post-it notes with scribbled messages to your loved ones, all the chalk drawings on the garden path you drew as a child. The meals you’ve cooked, the recipes you just made up as you went along, the cupcakes you baked for all the bake sales. So the next time you feel insignificant, think of it like this- you’ve filled up the world with traces and pieces of yourself hidden in every corner. How can you be insignificant when so much is here just because of you?

So the essence of grimdark is that everyone’s inherently sort of a bad person and does bad things, and that’s awful and disheartening and cynical. It’s looking at human nature and going, “The glass is half empty.” Hopepunk says, “No, I don’t accept that. Go fuck yourself: The glass is half-full.” YEAH, we’re all a messy mix of good and bad, flaws and virtues. We’ve all been mean and petty and cruel, but (and here’s the important part) we’ve also been soft and forgiving and KIND. Hopepunk says that kindness and softness doesn’t equal weakness, and that in this world of brutal cynicism and nihilism, being kind is a political act. An act of rebellion.

Hopepunk says that genuinely and sincerely caring about something, anything, requires bravery and strength. Hopepunk isn’t ever about submission or acceptance: It’s about standing up and fighting for what you believe in. It’s about standing up for other people. It’s about DEMANDING a better, kinder world, and truly believing that we can get there if we care about each other as hard as we possibly can, with every drop of power in our little hearts.

Going to political protests is hopepunk. Calling your senators is hopepunk. But crying is also hopepunk, because crying means you still have feelings, and feelings are how you know you’re alive. The 1% doesn’t want you to have feelings, they just want you to feel resigned. Feeling resigned is not hopepunk.

Examples! THE HANDMAID’S TALE is arguably hopepunk. It’s scary and dark, and at first glance it looks like grimdark because it’s a dystopia… but goddammit she keeps fighting. That’s the key, right there. She fights every single day, because she won’t let them take away meaning from her life. She survives stubbornly in the hope that one day she can live again. “Don’t let the bastards grind you down,” is one of the core tenets of hopepunk, along with, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Jesus and Gandhi and Martin Luther King and Robin Hood and John Lennon were hopepunk. (Remember: Hopepunk isn’t about moral perfection. It’s not about being as pure and innocent as the new-fallen snow. You get grubby when you fight. You make mistakes. You’re sometimes a little bit of an asshole. Maybe you’re as much as 50% an asshole. But the glass is half full, not half empty. You get up, and you keep fighting, and caring, and trying to make the world a little better for the people around you. You get to make mistakes. It’s a process. You get to ask for and earn forgiveness. And you love, and love, and love.)

An update

So I was looking through old posts where I complained about the roomie and mentioned a friend who, at the time, I thought made my heart go doki-doki.

As of today, I haven’t seen the friend for months, and my roomie has been my boyfriend since November of last year. <3

Still asexual, except for where my wonderful boyfriend is concerned. <3 <3

Also, have a home now, and no one can take me away from it. <3

A year is a long time, and even though I felt so hopeless then, everything worked out for the better. And it’s still getting better, little by little. :)

The first sin. Misconception is that Eve was the first to sin when that’s not really all that true.

You see When God created everything and then Adam. He told him about the tree he said don’t eat of it.

God never told Eve.

When Eve was in the garden being tempted read that section you’ll find something interesting. Adam was right next to her and he didn’t say anything. He was using Eve as a Guinea pig.

Eve bit into the fruit nothing changed she handed it to Adam. And when he bit into it their eyes were opened.

So really the first sin was Man’s passive nature allowing something to happen he was told not to allow happen if he never ate their eyes may never have been opened but who knows.

My pastor told me that it gets worse. Adam straight up lied. He didn’t trust Eve so he told her that she could not eat or touch the tree. The deal was they couldn’t eat the fruit. They could’ve play volleyball with the damn thing all they wanted.

Adam did not trust Eve to follow God’s instructions so he gave her an extra rule to follow. And then, like OP said, he was a little shit and watched her eat anyway. And if you look in the rest of the scriptures, Adam gets blamed.

I don’t know about you but I’m so sick of that omnipresent association of sports/fitness with weight loss as the ultimate goal.

(PS: I’m not sure how efficient punching people is for building muscle mass but I’m afraid she’s had a lot of opportunities so I guess four pounds is probably realistic?)

I wish… I WISH I could somehow reblog this HARDER and with MORE LOVE. Sorry to put more non-art stuff in my main tumblr here, but goddamn I feel this so hard. I’ve been hitting the gym with the goal of making a good habit, so that when winter comes around and the inevitable S.A.D. creeps back into my life, I’m more likely to get some exercise as a coping mechanism just out of habit. I’m also weightlifting because I want to get strong (like ox, you might say).

I do not care if I lose weight, I’m not keeping track of my pounds, and if I stay chubby but get stronger I will be just as fucking happy. So glad I found this comic, and so glad I found your art Ephi! New watcher ahoy! <3
