[There was a sudden creaking sound, and then a 'pop' with the quiet pluck of a familiar contrabass's strings..]
ππ ππ±β¬π ‘ (Geez.. that took long enough..) β«
[From what could be nowhere in particular, there was a bit of a forced cough. ..out of courtesy?]
[And there was a shotglass at the bar.]
[The shadows shifted a bit like water and began to drift away.]
// @shadow-shallows
Lucky was tidying some things up under the bar counter (so thats where those kitkats went) when the sound of a cough startles him and causes them to hit their head on the underside of the counter.
"ack!"
they stand fully, rubbing their head a little and notice the shot glass. they knew who was here instantly.
at first they were inclined to call them back and get on his case about stealing, but the glass was returned so no harm no foul. the glass itself seemed unharmed too, perhaps a bit of salt dried on it but that'd rinse off.
the notice his shadow slipping out the door and clear their throat, trying to catch the shadowshark's attention. "you sure you dont want to stay for a drink? i still got some rum n kitkats. the kitkats might be a little old but they still should be safe to eat."
[The shadow wobbled in place, like rippling waves. A darkness lingered by the door...]
[He sighed. The shadow began to take shape.. and there he was! That sharkguy, about the same as ever and hardly worse for wear (despite his circumstances just hours prior.) He tipped his hat, and stepped in, letting the door swing back shut behind him.]
π β¬π β«π π π If ya think you're willing to spare this sorry little fool another drink, then.. I wouldn't mind that in the slightest. π π ‘ β¬ β« β¬π π
[(Best to get on their good side if you wanted to "better the odds"...)]
"not gonna chance the kitkats huh?" Lucky teases as they grab the rum
"im sure it's fine, theyre still in original packaging. whatve you been up to? aside from returning stolen goods?" Lucky chuckles.
he pauses and notices the slight tiredness in Zuzu's features.
"quite a bit i take it?" they slide over the rum.
[Suddenly, he lowered his voice to a mild, almost nervous tone.]
(..you know. I'm usually not the.. rambling kind of guy. But something gave me the impression.. when I chanced upon this fine establishment some, so many days or weeks or so ago.. that you weren't the 'double-crossing' type. ..Not in the ways that I see it, at least.
..comes with the territory. Only words I'll chip in, in that regard.)
[He took a careful sip of his drink, as if wary of its own contents that he had seen poured before him. ..A habit formed from experience.]
"Double cross you? HA! that goes against barkeep code!" Lucky laughs and continues cleaning up.
"the barkeep is someone your supposed to trust while youre there! theyre to listen patrons spill their woes and clean their spills! it'd be very unbecoming of me to off and gab about what my customers got into with other people. i could lose my license!"
They pause. "Ok well maybe not that but you get it right? what's said in the bar stays in the bar." they begin wiping down a table
"Eh, i say let it run. running's healthy y'know?" Lucky sets to work on another table, the bar lights gleam on the first cleaned table. if you squinted enough you could probably see your reflection.
"metaphorically, literally, running's good for you. work off extra feelings that way yeah? a good run'll clear your head and leave you feeling a bit tired sure but a nice kind of tired. Every so often i myself have a run round the studio." they wave off a bothersome fly buzzing around their ears.
"Thats not to say you should run blindly however," Lucky stops to watch where the fly would land before dampening his towel and wringing it out, preparing to strike.
" you should always look where your running or you could end up hurt or worse. one time i went for a run and ended up on the Western set, and almost died from heat exhaustion, heh. but i met a cool cowboy so it wasn't all bad!"
As soon as the fly lands on a table, Lucky moves, bringing the towel down and quickly ceasing the creature's reign of terror on his ears.
"though theres something to be said for running for the hell of it. being free, not giving a single damn about who sees or what they think. you know what i mean yeah?" they dispose of the towel and chuckle.
"Ah, now look at who's rambling. Lemme know if you need a top up on that rum okay?"

Lucky takes the glass back and smiles faintly.
"i get that. respect it too. and, bein honest, that sorta sounds like what i grew up with. people harming others for bein weak..walking all over others.. call it barkeep's intuition but i think were not as different as it seems."
they notice his shadowshifting. "say. that's impressive. never knew shadowguy were capable of shifting the much or that far." they begin cleaning the glass, changing the subject as they could tell the shadowshark was uncomfortable.
"you looked completely different! i myself can shift but uhh.. not as much as you." they close their eyes and concentrate. their claws lengthen.
"oh yeah i guess i can do this too." he turns his head 180 degrees.
"makes for a neat party trick but thats it. and apologies for possibly ruining your night bringin up bad memories." they turn their head back around, facing him again.
[Before he could start shifting erratically once more, he was caught in bit of bashfulness.]
ππ πΆ ..impressive? it's. not much. served me well in some tight spots.. but.. π π πΎ π

[He gave a cursory glance at his surroundings and "Lucky," themselves. ..Interesting, indeed. ..Despite having his own intuition betrayed and questioned so recently.. could he really come to trust again so soon?]
Lucky's tail flicks happily.
"thanks, and none taken. and i get the feeling about you too, uh no offense." they chuckle and begin to clean the glass,
"i was pleasantly surprised to see you return with my shotglass bein honest. Thought you wouldve sold it to the Pippinses. they love shiny valuables. trust me. ive had to replace too many poker chips cuz of them."
He puts the glass away with a soft hum. "so will that be all for tonight? just a rum and kitkats? if you want, i could try and read your cards."
they pull out a deck of cards, the box covered in purple and gold designs. the box looks barely used, but if examined closer its apparent that he just takes really good care of his cards.
"I uh..dabble in a bit of cartomancy, heh. tarot but. playing cards. i dunno if you got any interest in that kinda stuff though. just thought id offer.." his ears flick slightly in embarrassment.
