Jean-michel basquiat. 

This artist inspires me because I love the way he painted. It is detailed but sloppy. Messy but well put together. I relate to him because he painted whatever he could paint on when he began painting. And i love to paint on different materials. I think painting is beyond just canvas. His painting inspire me to paint freely rather than so planned out.

Thank you Anna for being a creative genius! I learned so much about painting and theory and color and hue and all those vocabulary words you taught us on the first day! Here is my digital self portrait. I recorded the last 30 minutes of it. I used collage, which is pretty much my aesthetic. I used some wonky mix of 3 portraits, a wing, a flower and a coral color (bc im a beach baby).

This started out as the last assignment (not the final) but I never got to finish it. My b/w image is a flower I took a picture of last year. From there I abstracted it into organic shapes by just pouring the paint on the medium after sketching it with tracing paper. I did 2 versions, one black on white & another white on black. I intended to do 2 more by drawing it directly on the canvas and using a brush but I didn’t get that far yet but here is the process. I put a border on it to make it look visually pleasing. 😁

Quarantine selfie: a classmate took this picture of me last week for an assignment for another class. We had to do A QUARANTINE PHOTOSHOOT through FaceTime.

Fun fact about me: I like dressing up, like in heels, couture, makeup, whatever. I like the extremity of how these things transcend into art on the body.

Although the last few years I haven’t dressed up as much as I like and the last few weeks I haven’t gone anywhere 😩 I have a closet full of fun clothes Ive been “collecting” that I cant wait to wear to art shows and events.

During the quarantine, I tried to put something on everyday that made me feel artsy fartsy. This day, during my Covid photoshoot, I kept it simple and just wore some vampy lipstick.

Tonal Collage 2: For these, I used 3 shades. These were darker than the first and I also added a small sliver of black to see how the composition would change, especially on the edge.(against the black background it disappeared when I desaturated the image.)

Tonal sketch 1: So, here is the process of the first collage. I changed the background colors to see how it would effect the tonals colors.

Tonal collages. I had a lot of fun with these. I used tonal gray, tan and black. I just used scissors to cut the paper in no particular order and just moved the pieces around until I thought they looked interesting.

I hope I did these correctly! In exercise 2, I added black (my mistake) to give the illusion that the red block was in the foreground. It does take on that effect, but since the front box is red, I don’t know if it was successful in the color translation.

So I used a mixup of paint and color paper here. I only used paint where color paper was not available. The color paper helped me to rearrange the colors in the second set a bit to see the comparison to the first set.
