Their wedding was on a bigger scale because their marriage was a delicate political matter that would solidify peace between the Leaf and Sand villages.

Temari being from the Kazekage Clan, the 4th's daughter and 5th's sister.

Headcanon. Gaara was always envious of Temari and Kankuro's relationship in his early years, especially during the period after the chunnin exams.

He understood it, obviously. They couldn't become a perfect family all of the sudden. But as he watched them bicker, Temari flipping Kankuro off and calling him all sorts of names, he felt left out. It was hard to admit, but he did feel like that, even if it was probably silly.

So when one day, around a year of getting used to the new relationship, Gaara misplaced Temari's favourite sleeping shirt after doing the laundry. She turned to him and yelled to his face "Are you fucking stupid?!" In that familiar sisterly manner usually reserved for Kankuro. She froze afterwards, realizing it. Gaara's heart swelled. He returned the shirt with small turn of his lips and kept the jubilant attitude for a whole week. Well, as jubilant as Gaara could get.

It made his whole month. He finally felt like he belonged.

A month later Temari called him a dumbass after the meeting with the Hokage. Gaara was in heaven.
