User Profile Service

Install/configure Sharepoint with User Profile Service. Follow model of least privilege, remove farm admin from local administrators. Reboot. UPS works. Stop UPS service. UPS will no longer start.

2 little bugs on SharePoint

When you try to add an "new managed account" to SharePoint 2010 from your web application Page, be carefull because it will delete every information and you will be begin to fill all again.

Two workarrounds:

On Create Web Application Page add first your managed account than fill all information

Add Managed Account on Central Admin

Secure Store Service Application

When you have to configure the Secure Store Service Application, there is another little bug, when you fill your credentials you can fill anything you want it will accept.

Experience the speed of a framework that parses expressions into CAML. Then parse the CAML into SQL. which is then executed against your wide-table database schema that has no referential integrity.

FAST Search

Telling your customer they need to purchase SharePoint Enterprise... and FAST licenses... adding up to around a hundred thousand bucks in software licenses alone without additional hardware... just for faceted searches and document thumbnails.

...Things that using the SharePoint object model that take hundreds if not thousands of lines of code... running into strange postback ajax issues along the way... that can be accomplished with two or three lines of jQuery.

How to change the maximum file upload size:

1) Change the user upload limit in CA.

K! Easy!

2) Increase maximum timeout and request size in web.config on each WFE

3) Increase the connection timeout setting in IIS on each WFE.

3) Increase the maximum request limit in IIS on each WFE.

4) Increase the maximum chunk size limit property.

Uhhhh.....

Share - but it's limited!

InfoPath, great! Create forms,  but to use master data you are limited to a size that is shared by all in the cloud and in Office 365 it can't be changed!  What?!! @$#!@$#!

If you’ve used the ribbon for any lenght of time in SharePoint or shown people how to use it, then you know that SharePoint 2012 is not the easiest piece of software to use at times. Cerys Hearsey writes a good article about it: “SharePoint 2010: Why after 2 years is it still so hard?”
