This is specifically for expenses that will probably arise when my daughter receives her kidney transplant (whether living or deceased). It’s a three to four month stay across the state; even if her brothers and our dog end up staying with my mom or with a trustworthy sitter, it’s essentially maintaining two separate households for a quarter of the year. Even staying at the Ronald McDonald House (as I plan to), living expenses (like groceries) will come up. If possible, the Ronald McDonald House requests $20/night from people staying there. I’ve already run into unexpected co-pays from labs.

I have deleted my other post and campaign to consolidate with this one. (And I greatly appreciate everyone who donated and shared that one). People are also stepping forward to see if they’re a possible donor match, and that’s wonderful. Hopefully that’ll make this happen sooner rather than later, or at least on a manageable schedule, if it happens. Donors need to between 21-45, in reasonably good health, and O+ blood type. She is now officially on the transplant list! She is on-hold status, accruing time. They want to do some more bladder studies, their nephrologist wants to take out her less functional kidney and is going to consult with her local nephrologist about whether to take it out prior to transplant or during, and she needs some additional vaccines.

We’re in the prep stage, basically.

As my followers probably know but others may not, on May 19th, my daughter Dessie disclosed that her father molested her about four years ago (so when she was four). I’ve alerted CPS, I called CrimeCheck (our local police non-emergency contact line) and made a report. She has an appointment scheduled with her doctor. I’m doing everything I can think of to protect her, her brothers, and other children he may be around.

We are living in a house owned by my ex’s parents. Legally, they can’t evict us for this, but that’s not to say they won’t find a legal workaround to evict us as a retaliation. And you may think, loving grandparents wouldn’t do that to their grandkids, especially when one is so sick. But my ex’s father is also a child abuser, and his mother continues to stay with him and enable his behavior. Eviction by them as a form of retaliation has been a concern since I divorced their son. It remains an eminent threat, though not yet enacted.

I am exceedingly thankful and grateful for the help everyone has given me, whether it’s monetary assistance, advice, emotional support, or GoodThoughts. Truly, everything helps, however small.

But I am still scared for us and our future.

You know, the Richard Spencer getting punched thing has made it VERY clear which groups of people I’m not actually safe around, if push comes to shove.  People who had SAID that they’d defend Jewish people, or even promised that, if shit hit the fan, they’d hide me, have said that this was inexcusable, and now I’m not wasting emotional energy on them.  Because they won’t.

those of us who speak english as a first language or are fairly comfortable with english need to remember that that is not the case for all people online, and if we want to spread messages promoting justice that sometimes we need to calm down, ask questions, and understand why someone has responded badly.  sometimes…no, not just sometimes…people angrily oppose social justice messages because they don’t know the cultural context, or because the language used pushes them away.  that’s not to say that we don’t have the right to be angry – we absolutely do – but i think it’s important that english language privilege, and western cultural privilege absolutely exists.
