Internship at DY Works – Week 1
“We would like to extend an offer of internship to Henal” – This sentence came with a bunch of happiness and excitement to me. Working in Asia’s no.1 Branding Agency is like a new crown to your own self. Maybe handwork and your portfolio truly speaks for yourself.
But...joining the office after a month full of trips to various places was like a disappointment. Who likes to give up on their joyful days of freedom and start working? Well..I had to do that!!
I was filled with mixed emotions of happiness to start with the work but also filled with sadness of leaving the freedom of enjoyment.
Let’s start on how my first week went at the office...
When a person’s day starts at the midnight and ends in the morning..a thought of waking up early the next day was like a box full of tension on my head. All thanks to Mom who woke me up on time. Got ready with a speed of an express train and when I was all set to leave, Mom comes asking to have dahi shakkar as a shagun..Hahaha, this was a complete dramatic scene from a movie!
Office being at Lower Parel, travelling by train in the Mumbai heat was a pain. Got down at Curry Road Station and rushed walking to the office as it’s max 15mins away. Get off the train and follow the huge crowd heading towards lower parel and you’ll reach the office. Being located at the corporate area, the area around is never ever empty..always filled with vehicles, vendors around and people rushing towards their respective offices.
So...the 1st day – I enter the office at 9:15 completely drenched in sweat and the feel of the AC was a gift to me :p Later asked the peon for the HR i.e.. Jagruti and he asked me to wait till 10:30 as she comes at that time and I was wondering that if she herself comes late then why did she ask me to come early :/ After 10 mins, two more people enters the office and even they are asked to wait with me as even they wanted to meet Jagruti, so I was sure that even they are the interns and are joining today with me. We introduced ourselves – Prachi and Mitali and later were asked to sit at the other side of the office near the canteen area where the interns usually sit. We spoke to each other about our colleges, our courses, where we reside etc. There comes one more gal who was a friend of them and surprisingly even we knew each other as she resides at the same place as me. So yeah, I made new friends yay!
Shaantaramji comes asking for coffee or tea and also informs us that we are given tea or coffee at 10:30 everyday, again tea or coffee at 2:30 and also also various yummy snacks at 5 everyday..and everything free of charge like wow! this made all of us surprised and happy...
Finally, Jagruti comes and takes me to my mentor for the week..ie Sowmiya. She seemed nice and really friendly. Here the twist comes...before joining the office, I was asked not to carry my laptop as they will be providing me but when I start with my day, I was asked a question “Where is your laptop?” So Soumiya asked the IT Team to arrange a machine for me so that I can start working. IT team answers saying “sorry, there’s no machine” and I was surprised..still I was asked to wait so that they can arrange for one. Waited a lot and a lot and finally at 12:15, I get a machine to work because one guy was on a leave. I was asked to go through the case studies of two agencies(information has to be kept confidential). Went through few of the presentations and it was the time for lunch...foooodddd!! Doing nothing since morning, definitely made me more hungry. As I had friends, it wasn't awkward for me or didn't have any thoughts that I’m alone or anything else. Done with lunch and I start reading other presentations..Once I was done with it, I was asked to combine both the company’s logos and design a PATTERN!! I was too happy thinking about patterns as that is something I love to design..At the end of the day, I showed few explorations to Sowmiya and Shashikant and both of them loved my work. They replied saying “wow, good work!” which reasoned to a big smile on my face.
Time to go back home and I have a company while going and that made me happy as train travelling alone is quite boring.
2nd day and I’m asked to do the same thing..try more explorations! 3rd day, designed a brand language combining the logo units of both the brands and also a new brand and started incorporating the patterns on the required mockups. Next day, and went through few minor changes on the mockup , later there wasn’t anything to do and so I was asked to go through the case studies of 6 new companies..got done with it at around 3 and later, I had no work to do. Was just going through FaceBook news feeds..And guess what, I left early.
Last Day of the week..FRIDAYY IS HERE!! Again nothing to do..was asked to chill..Again left early! :P
Also also let me tell you all something interesting.. So, I asked for coffee one day and the coffee was given in a very cute cup with cute illustrations on it. The moment Shantaramji came with that cup, we all got so excited (seemed like kids :p)
This is how my 1st week at DY Works went..Had fun, employees also are very chilled out and really friendly.
Maybe interning here was the right decision! :D
