you are telling me that the league that has the largest percentage of publicly and vocally Christian player BY FAR (not a perfect study but compelling nonetheless) discriminates against those players bc it ALLOWED (and only made a statement AFTER) a small handful of those players to make homophobic statements on their mandated uniforms on a night specifically designed to bring gay fans who do not often feel welcome in sports into the ballpark. this league that has zero out queer players and has never had an out queer player? this is what you are saying? the “pattern of discrimination” you are concerned with is what is happening to the christian pitchers who went out of their way to take a homophobic stand on pride night? no doubt no doubt no doubt

not to mention that the policy that is being enforced states clearly that “a Player may not write, attach, affix, embroider or otherwise display nicknames or messages on apparel or playing equipment” which they knew about before the evening and chose to disobey anyways. and they aren’t facing any disciplinary action or fines simply a verbal warning. like simply you must be joking. the victim mentality of the american christian is so fucking unbelievable.

also while we’re here reminder that clayton kershaw did this exact same thing years ago!!!! I have always hated the man for selfish baseball reasons but always good to remember that he’s a homophobe too!!! (also blake trinen but we knew that, disgusting fascist pig!!!)

yeah this is an annual thing. they've actually been hosting it for less time than they have a pride or pride equivalent (previously called 'until there's a cure night' with regards to HIV/AIDS) but still just about two decades. lgbtq+ friendly nights have been a thing for this team LONGER (30+ years) than christianity has been important to the fanbase of the team.

there's actually a really fascinating team culture around christianity. back in the 70s there was a group of giants called "the god squad" and they were all born again christians. the media at the time, very similarly to this actual moment, ripped them to shreds for playing bad while preaching christianity on the national stage.

i can't even look at anything regarding the team right now because everything is surrounding this pride night bullshit the pitchers pulled. you know it's bad when your team is on the national news for this bullshit when they're already playing bad enough. they're quite literally alienating themselves from a fanbase and city dripping in queer history to back but not quite say anything too loud about these crappy pitchers and their shitty behavior. at least one of them had the decency (before his actual horrific statement btw) to just opt out of wearing the hat and wear the regular orange logo hat. especially when there's queer people in and related to this organization and it's history and families like the son of our beloved broadcaster Mike Krukow.

i want an actual apology from the team and action taken, not just a statement released in the chronicle and i want these pitchers fucking gone.
