I feel like we need to talk more about how fucking boring depression can be. I pick up a book and can’t read more than a few sentences, a chapter if I’m lucky, before I can’t focus. I knit two rows of something and then can’t continue. I scroll through all the different options of shows I haven’t watched without clicking on any of them. I hop from app to app looking for content that will spark literally any single emotion. It’s not even 10am and I already feel like I’m just waiting until it’s time to go back to bed.

What gets me about the whole thing is that this is hardly unique to McConnell. He's certainly a higher profile case, but a congresswoman from texas disappeared for 5 months in 2024 and was found in a memory care home while still receiving her salary. Her office was vacant and her staff were also unreachable. She was only found because the local paper insisted on tracking her down to ask how (or if, since she hadn't cast a vote in 5 months) she was planning to vote on the interim budget bill. There are basically no enforced attendance standards for congress.
