May I say that I am utterly appalled by the way that Luiz has excused the fetishization of Indigenous Brazilian women within the period of Portuguese Colonization. In order to justify his portrayal of Mystique Sonia to be a willing Indigenous Brazilian woman marrying a Portguese Colonizer Lin Chung LOOKING TO BUY HER FROM HER FATHER. I don't even need to go into WHY that is by far tone def and immensely immoral.
And lets be clear here, Luiz’s version of Lin Chung completely bastardizes who he is in the show. Never- and I mean never, have I been so angry about the portrayal of a character. I understand if people have ideas of Lin Chung having the ability to turn evil through chaos or some means of that but this portrayal of him goes doesn’t just go against who he is as a character, but against Indigenous Brazilian rights!
Its not an issue with the ship even (I myself encourage others to ship whatever they like as long as it’s with consenting adults) its the fact that he is using these two characters to play out his romanticized fantasy where women are meant to only serve men. Having a conversation is BEYOND impractical at this point. I know I cannot change this person's way of thinking and nor can he change mine. But I am making this statement to show the reality of Brazil's history.
I want people to be educated about what actually happened and how these Portuguese Colonizers described Indigenous Brazilian Women. How African and Indigenous Brazilian people were forced into slavery, how Brazilian Indigenous women were forced into marriages with Portuguese colonizers.
I had even done research to help with educating and I please ask that people understand how horrid it is to blatantly ignore the abuse of Indigenous Brazilians during the 15th and 16th century.

This is too only to be truthful about Brazilian history and the abuse of women, so I ask that one be mature when discussing these topics, it is vastly important to me that I don’t sugar coat or cover what happened because they would not allow for the truth to really be discussed.

To Summarize, Indigenous Brazilian women were written in reports by Male Portuguese Colonizers who only focused on their own sexual desires based off how they would vehemently focus on their bodies and often compare them to the bodies of European women. This horrible way of viewing the Brazilian Indigenous women would then spread outside of Brazil and create the idea that Indigenous Brazilian women are always naked and bare their bodies completely freely in order to entice men in sexual ways.
This way of viewing Brazilian Women had started the path of physical and sexual abuse that so many Brazilian women experience to this day. It is not accurate to say that this mysoginistic view of women, incited by Portuguese colonizers who enslaved, rped, and put these women through humn traffick*ng IS OKAY. BECAUSE IT IS NOT and there should be an importance of recognizing that this way of thinking is entirely backwards and completely inhumane.
One can say that "oh it's just a part of history" but that is the reason why education matters, because currently Indigenous tribes in Brazil are starting to shrink and their rights are being taken away. Brazil's culture isn't all about sexualizing women and using the word "culture" to justify the idea that women are only meant to serve men and endure their sexualization, dehumanizes Brazilians to simply be known as sexual deviants.
I rather my heritage not be described as complacent in the abuse of women. I have grown to understand the vast population of Brazil when traveling to see my family in the city of São Paulo and meeting my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I learned about the ACTUAL significance of my culture through the joys of cooking with family, watching football, learning to play music and sing along with my cousins, the dancing, the clothing, the vibrancy, the animals, the architecture- all of it I learned to enjoy and embrace growing up.
This statement to meant to show to fans of Hero 108, that Luiz's poor representation of Brazilian culture is not accurate and I want to show that as a Brazilian, that I stand for human rights, the rights of Afro-Brazilians and Indigenous Brazilians, the rights for the LGBTQ+ community of Brazil AND ESPECIALLY THE TRANS POPULATION OF BRAZIL. I have unfortunately experienced profiling for my culture before within a hero 108 fandom space and that is why I heavily head canon Mighty Ray to be mixed Brazilian himself. Because I see so many parts of myself in him that I adore and it feels so nice to have a character that can be depicted as a trans-man and Brazilian.
In my heart, Lin Chung represents harmony- as cheesy as it is, thats the whole meaning of the show. Embracing differences between species and people regardless of background. Although I may be biased as Lin Chung is my favorite character within hero 108, a big part of that is because I relate to his love of differences, his appreciation of others, and the way he always tries to understand first before making judgment.
He has always been respectful to women, to different species of animals, and even to his own enemies. Mystique Sonia is not a damsel in distress nor a housemaid, she’s a self made woman who has her own love of different hobbies and a strong sense of justice. She’s compassionate to animals, she’s flawed but so confident, proud and strong. To minimize her to just being a beautiful woman would not being doing her the justice she deserves.
THAT is the Lin Chung and Mystique Sonia I choose to believe in. As of recently it has come to my attention that Lin Chung has been put into fanfics and fanart as some kind of r*pist or sexual predator. I truly am baffled by how misrepresented he is among the fandom, but again, I know I can't change an ignorant person's mind if they are nit open to educating themselves. This is only me wishing and hoping that other hero 108 fans understand why all of this is important to discuss.

There are days where you wake up too early and the mist lingers like a ghost. Slow, creeping, low to the ground. A hunched over dog with its nose to the ground, sniffing for something you’ll never know amid the petrichor and the feuillemorte that comes with rotting leaves and moisture. It’s autumn. The little riffles of yellow paper burn brighter than the morning sun that’s still yet to emerge from the horizon; you can still see their warm hue, though, even through the blueness of twilight.
It makes him feel sick.
Kisame raises his chin as he sits next to his sleeping partner and frowns in such a way that his lips part and oh so slightly bare teeth. The breeze flickers the branches and runs cold over his mouth. Autumn and fog...they taste like death right now, sticky and grimy and awful. If only… Kisame thinks. If only…
Unbeknownst to the wistful daydreamer, a white-haired man has begun to notice.
“What’s wrong, Kisame-san?”
The named ninja grunts, unexpecting for his concern to be visible; the realization that it is makes his stomach turn. In just a moment, Rinto sees Kisame blinking away whatever glimpse into his heart the kitsune caught upon waking up, hiding vulnerability from caring eyes. “Oh, it’s nothing,” the shark responds, dismissive and resolute.
But...it’s not nothing. That’s a lie, and Rinto knows it. Doesn’t Kisame hate lies?
Though it makes his brow furrow, the fox keeps to himself as they pick up to leave. Now two men are disconcerted— not just one. While Kisame muddles his feelings down more and more, Rinto can’t help but wonder...
…Why would Kisame lie…?

The scent of wet earth continues to stain upon the back of Kisame’s throat with every breath he takes. Step, step, step...across the peaceful woodland the thin path curls for them. Maybe the fact that it’s so quiet makes every sound all the more irritating. Step, step, step. Rinto’s steps scrape against the stone. Shark teeth grimace, but the blue ninja can’t ignore how the fog creeps up to their calves.
He does something he can’t even help; Kisame huffs.
That’s all that Rinto needs to confirm something is definitely wrong. The fox has kept to himself from the time they woke up till this second, oh so painfully aware that his one great flaw is he simply can’t...emote; sometimes he says something and makes things worse. But this is a dire circumstance— at least as long as the unhappiness is upon Kisame’s shoulders. No, that’s a burden for Rinto to bear instead.
Even as they walk side by side now, he can see the shark tilting his chin away, the sensation of a lingering stare disquieting for a sensitive man. With that gesture of pain, Rinto asks himself:
What can he do to make it all better when Kisame won’t say what’s wrong?
...Perhaps the solution is to play along. Rinto opens his mouth and speaks:
“I think you are perfectly fine as you are.” That’s a kind thing to say, right? Maybe he feels badly about himself. And he shouldn’t! Oh, if any person deserves to feel good about who they are, it’s him!
That hope just makes Kisame’s scoff sting all the more. “Don’t patronize me.” It’s in a tone unmistakably offended.
...Oh dear. It’s happening. He’s being misunderstood.
“I’m not,” Rinto defends, though his flat affect makes sincerity sound the same as mockery. As such, sharp rows of teeth bare fangs.
“Then don’t tell me how to feel.”
Wait, that’s not what Rinto meant—!
It’s too late. Kisame takes a few long strides and in no time he’s in front. The few meters between them feel like they’re worlds apart. After so long keeping his feelings away, it’s unbearable to go back to it; it makes Rinto panic.
“Kisame, I meant that—”
Just as Kisame stops and turns around, Rinto overestimates how far to move. What was meant to be a comforting embrace— perhaps a hand on the shoulder— ends up being a fox bashing a shark in a headbutt. It could have been worse— Rinto’s a lot smaller than him after all— but it still makes Kisame grunt in discomfort. If nothing else, his ego is heavily bruised. Finally, the Hoshigaki snaps.
“Dammit, Rinto! Why are you so RECKLESS?! This is exactly what I don’t need right now!” Small fish eyes flicker over calm canine ones. Unfortunately, when you feel badly already, you’re predisposed to finding judgement where there is none. Abruptly too seen, Kisame has to weigh his restlessness with his duty as one Akatsuki traveling with another. In compromise, he asks of Rinto:
“Just...leave me alone.”
Stare.
Stare.
Stare.
If he’s waiting for a response, he gets none. Kisame sighs and continues walking, leaving Rinto behind, frozen in a sea of decaying yellow.

What a shitshow, Kisame thinks of himself.
Of course he regrets what he said. It isn’t like Rinto to be reckless! It isn’t like Rinto to try to berate you! Now that he’s had some time alone, it’s becoming glaringly obvious that either something is wrong with the fox, too, or Kisame really is so out of sorts right now to interpret his longtime companion so differently. As soon as the shark had some time to breathe, he’s felt like he won’t truly catch his breath until he apologizes. He does, after all, hate to lie. The least Rinto deserves is to know the truth about why he was touchy in the first place.
The bell to the inn’s door rings, and Kisame has to consciously try not to get a headache from it.
“I believe my associate might check in after me,” the swordsman explains to the innkeeper, still flinching from how loud her welcoming voice is. Surprisingly, the woman blinks at the description given.
“Oh, you should have mentioned that first,” the innkeeper chirps. “He’s already arrived.”
Now it’s Kisame’s turn to blink in confusion. Wasn’t he the one ahead…? Maybe Kisame spent more time thinking to himself than he thought, if his partner was able to beat him here. Goodness...where has his head been all day…?
A minute later and blue fingers grip the sliding door, the soft rumble of wood feathery in his touch lest he disturb the fox. Perhaps Kisame should just open with an apology? Or perhaps it should all be forgotten. Either way, he can’t delay the inevitable. An amber iris glances in...and gasps.
To say he finds Rinto a wreck is putting it lightly.
Even as he cries, the pale ninja is always so delicate-looking. That’s part of the problem, isn’t it? No matter how much he’d like, Rinto can’t make himself show how he really feels. No ugly crying, no joyous laughter...no soft smiles of comfort.
Failure.
Failure.
Failure.
“Rinto…?!”
Shit!
The fox tries to hide his face as Kisame enters, lest he be misunderstood yet again, but before he can wipe all the tears away, a hand rests upon his shoulder...and guides a red-lined beast to look back.
“What’s wrong, Rinto…?” the question repeats in reverse between the two Akatsuki. And though he doesn’t know it, the fox feels the exact same way the shark did when asked that this morning.
“It’s nothing,” he answers the same way, sounding curt and uncaring. A tall man who knows better grips just a little bit tighter and gives the fox a grounding shake.
“It’s not,” Kisame insists. His frown deepens as he sees his partner— normally so cool and unaffected— in tears. How terrible— how terrible of Kisame to brush him aside. Shit... “I— I’m sorry, Rinto.”
The answer is quick and resolute: “Don’t be. It’s me. It’s my fault.”
But that doesn’t make sense; Kisame’s the one who pushed him away. “What do you mean?”
…
A large hand curls underneath a delicate chin, beckoning for the truth. What a blessing it’s been, for a brute like Hoshigaki Kisame to have such a beautiful porcelain doll to love. He won’t let it slip away— not without a fight.
After a long moment of silence, of watching all the minute twitches and changes of an expression that look so little on others and so big on Rinto, the haunted survivor of a dead clan finally speaks:
“I’ve always been like this,” he admits. “Monotone. Cold. Unfeeling.” And indeed, that’s just as he sounds now. “I’m not good at helping. When I try, I simply…”
…
His mouth closes, and without even a whimper Rinto shuts up before he makes things worse. That’s what his mother always told him; he just makes things worse...
...Kisame, on the other hand, begins to understand the miscommunication. Damn, he really was just overthinking things. Of course Rinto cares! “You weren’t mocking me for being weak,” he corrects. “You weren’t telling me to be fine even if I didn’t feel fine. I simply...misread it for the former idea.”
The konoha-nin shakes his head. “No...I’d never do that.” No malice in is voice; Rinto really could never be angry at Kisame, could he? Even when it really is Kisame’s fault. “But...I still made you feel that way. I am still the problem. No matter how you construe it...it’s just...me.”
The longer Kisame stares, the more obvious the pain shining behind Rinto’s tattooed eyes. He’s helpless but to melt. “Oh, Rinto....”
A shark takes a fox off of the futon, onto his lap, and into his protecting arms. The smaller beast doesn’t think he deserves this kindness, but he remains as the larger beast does deserve a hug. Red and white arms snake around a bulky waist. A breath echoes in the wall his ear lays against, the exhale after so sweet to Rinto’s ears.
“Perhaps I should...admit my trouble, in turn,” Kisame begins, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. “My trouble today has been...this damn mist. It...feels like home.”
“Home?” Rinto repeats. And that makes him feel bad…?
Kisame nods to both the spoken and unspoken. “That’s right. It puts a pit in my stomach. The yellow ginko leaves...the clouds at your ankles. It’s...suffocating.” And even as he speaks so soft, the venom is clear. After a second, it’s gone, leaving only regret. “...And it made me lose myself. Rinto...I apologize you got the brunt of my frustration. After all…”
He hugs him tighter.
“You are what should feel like home to me.”
A gasp from one man shortly leads to a gasp from another, though for entirely different reasons. Rinto’s was because of the joy— the absolute treasure it is to know that you— you— are someone’s home. Kisame’s was because a tail sprouted out from nowhere and started wagging like a damn dog.
…
…
No matter how serious the moment is supposed to be, Kisame can’t hold in his grin anymore. He sputters, then chuckles, then laughs. Kisame laughs deep from his chest as a wide-eyed kitsune looks up to his lover in bewilderment.
“Wh...what is it?”
“Oh…” Kisame nearly sing-songs in amusement. “You haven’t noticed yet?”
“Noticed what, Kisame-san?” Flick, flick, goes the tail, bushy and long. It’s practically bouncing with excitement.
“It’s almost like you’re adorable on purpose.”
After a couple of blinks, Rinto’s stare finally follows the shark’s, and his tail stands up on end upon being noticed. Before the fox can escape, Kisame grapples the horrified Akatsuki close in his arms, letting his laughter bellow until it shakes Rinto’s bones.
“You may not be able to express it with your face so easily…” Kisame explains, nose in his soft white hair, “But you certainly show it with that tail of yours!”
“K-Kisame-san—!” a blushing man flusters.
But it’s too late for him. Kisame holds Rinto like the lifeline he is, grateful for once to still be alive. Grateful, forever, for someone who feels like home.
The fog rises until it eats up the inn, but that’s just fine. The doors are closed and the windows are shut, happiness rings through the inn’s room, and Rinto will always be good enough for him. Maybe someday Kisame can make a kitsune feel the exact same way.
