Listen, i try to stay biased on my Ford cards, but I have to say this is from one of my favorite fics. This Ford is from The Man Downstairs by @rum-and-shattered-dreams! This card is none other than The Hermit. In the upright, it represents wisdom, solitude, and soul serching. While the reverse symbolizes isolation, misinformation, and paranoia.
The Man Downstairs Status Report - November 23, 2024
Chapter 83 - Friends - is outlined and partially written. I'm going to take a break from posting, though, to spend some time rereading old chapters, taking notes on what still needs to be addressed (that I'm not already planning things for), and trying to (finally!) answer the lovely, life-sustaining comments (THANK YOU! I appreciate them all!). Also, it's the holidays and there are some real life things I'd like to finish so it may be a few weeks before the next chapter goes up. Overall, it is still very much active and I'm excited to eventually share the ending with everyone! I don't have an exact estimate on how many more chapters are left but it's getting close!
Otherwise, things have been going pretty well aside from *gestures to the state of the world*. But I'm on team "survive out of spite" and "keep doing the best you can" and "be compassionate and cultivate it whenever possible". Still working on burnout recovery and *knock on wood* doing better.
Wishing everyone the best of luck with making it through things and finding relief and rest when it's possible and sending virtual hugs to anyone who wants them!
The Man Downstairs - Ch 82 - A Hug
"He followed the exercises he knew well to ground himself, focusing on the warmth of their arms around his neck and torso and their hands on his back and the chill of the bars against his cheek. He lifted his own arms through the bars, drawing away three times before finally wrapping one around each of the younger twins and returning their hug.
Tears welled in the corners of his eyes and, despite every part of him willing them to stop, they streaked over his burning cheeks and a hitched sob escaped his lips."

Overall synopsis (for anyone who is newly interested):
A Gravity Falls AU idea where, in 1982, Stan threw a rope to Ford as he was being pulled into the portal. He let go of his journal in favor of grabbing the rope and it was lost to Bill’s dimension. Stan had saved him and for that, he was grateful. They talked and forgave each other for the past and all seemed well for as much as a day. That was when Bill’s ruthless anger became apparent and he took full advantage of his deal with Ford. Thirty years later, the demon is still punishing them for their refusal to rebuild the portal.
Chapter Summary:
Fiddleford and his team reach a breakthrough in their project and the Pines put together a small and early celebration for Dipper and Mabel's birthdays in case things get rough by the actual date.
Notes:
~Warnings - Conversation about past suicide attempt, anxiety/panic attack (but more well-managed than past ones), and discussion (nothing graphic) about eye surgery/recovery

The Man Downstairs - Ch 81 - Freedom
"To freedom," Stan said softly, placing his hand on Ford's shoulder and joining him in embracing the rain, drinking in the drops that hit his tongue like part of a toast.
"Freedom," he repeated, breathing in the freshness of the rain and letting the drops hit his tongue as well. "Freedom!" he shouted alongside another rumble of thunder.
@rum-and-shattered-dreams I hope you don't mind the ping! This last chapter nearly brought me to tears over how proud of and happy I am for Ford, so I had to draw something for it. It was also really fun to practice environments, even if it wasn't perfect
The Man Downstairs Status Report - October 19, 2024
Chapter 82 is coming along slowly. I've just been busy and tired after the hurricanes. Luckily we didn't have any major damage, it's minor and mostly a lot of cleanup. It was a lot to evacuate with all of the cats though, so yeah, tired. But safe and thankful!
Anyway hopefully it'll be ready in the next week or two.
I did take a bit of a detour back into my old fiddauthor obsession because apparently brain needed to hyperfocus for a bit. Its all posted on @shattereddreams-gravityfallsfics under the fiddauthor tag if anyone is interested.

Engaging Encounter - Chapter 4 - A Simple Life
Going off schedule to post this now instead of next Friday because there's a hurricane coming and I don't know what next Friday will be like. At least it will already be posted by then this way.
Overall Summary:
In the months following Weirdmageddon, Ford reconciled with Stan while helping him with his lost memories but struggled to really reconnect with Fiddleford until Dipper and Mabel visited for their winter break. When Mabel found out they were once more than friends, she couldn’t help recruiting Stan and Dipper to help her play matchmaker again.
Chapter Summary:
Time marches on (AKA- MONTAGE!) Ford helps Fidds on a sort of day-to-day basis. Fidds helps Ford through a severe flare of his chronic pain/illness. Fiddleford gets creative in helping Ford talk about his good times in the multiverse That, in turn, helps Fidds with his own frustrations. Eventually the two work on forging a future together Also Fiddleford has a bit more success with a political campaign than he ever imagined.
Chapter Notes:
More Smut Supreme because why not.
Also more angst and fluff and sweet, cute stuff because I want them all to be happy, okay? ;)
This one contains a non-graphic depiction of Ford's digestive issues because I'm kind of tired of seeing things like that treated like a joke and wanted to write something that treats it with compassion.
This also includes the idea of Fiddleford becoming president (from the thing where Alex said he did in the GF universe.)

Gahhhh why? Here I thought I was done writing stuff for Engaging Encounter but now I have a need to add more chronic pain/illness Ford content…
Guess it’s not actually done until it’s all posted and even then nothing says my questionable inhibitions can stop me from adding more random one shots or something. XD
This won’t change the schedule for it. It’ll just make the word count higher because apparently I have no self-restraint.
(I seriously wish I was better at art-ing because I have some ideas for companion art for this that just... Won't come out >_<).

This was going to be some fairly straightforward old/post canon Fiddauthor smut but apparently I fell into a hyperfocus state resulting in 22,000-ish words of fluff, musings, and smut and now I am absolutely going to make that everyone else's problem:
In the months following Weirdmageddon, Ford reconciled with Stan while helping him with his lost memories but struggled to really reconnect with Fiddleford until Dipper and Mabel visited for their winter break. When Mabel found out they were once more than friends, she couldn’t help recruiting Stan and Dipper to help her play matchmaker again.
Chapter Summary:
Mabel recruits Dipper and Stan to help her in her matchmaking mission but their plan goes sideways almost immediately.
Chapter Notes:
This chapter is mostly Ford and Fidds dealing with their baggage and multiple little snippets of characters bonding. This one only has a few suggestive lines so it's Smut: Extra Lite. Stay tuned for Smut Ultra next week. Warnings for panic attacks and PTSD

This is so dumb but I'm stupidly excited to post the next chapter of Engaging Encounter because it's the one that really got away on me with character stuff XD
Sorry to everyone who came for the smut. It will happen soon. I just really needed these guys to have some moments of dealing with their shit first.
(Apparently I had a mighty need for chronic pain Ford who often uses mobility aids and Fidds who uses leg and back braces to mitigate the pain of his posture, too.)
Anyway, there's a chance I might post this one on Thursday because there's a hurricane scheduled for Friday (which is sad because I might have finally had a thing to post for Fiddleford Friday!) and I'd rather post it early instead of late in case the power and internet go down.
It's all completely written though so I'll also be getting back to The Man Downstairs next!
The timeline on the hurricane has moved up to tonight and Thursday so I'll probably go ahead and stick to the Friday schedule for posting the next chapter of Engaging Encounter.
So yeah, the hurricane is right off the coast at the moment. (Just getting outer bands here, not a direct hit) Power is flickering so I don’t know how long it’ll hang in there. Going to wait until tomorrow to post since it should all be out of the area by then and it’ll be posted on the promised schedule.
