Dondy didn’t want his photo taken, but the magazine insisted. “You’re the hottest songwriter this side of Barry Manilow,” the magazine’s editor (a notorious Barry Manilow fan) screamed.

Don’t get him wrong, Dondy needed the press. He was so thirsty for good press. He just thought he looked like crap on the day of the shoot SO long story short, he asked his tiny brother Rondy to be the “face” of the shoot because that’s a thing people can do sometimes if they have a tiny sibling with the same face.

i've been a fan of your art for a while and i just wanted to say: you are the reason i picked up the habit of drawing unique garfields myself, and i've been having so much fun with it. what a wonderful, beautiful experience it is to look at a blank piece of paper and be unafraid to draw garfield as a mermaid on it. thank you.

That’s awesome! It’s weird, I find it to be the same freeing experience, which is why I always go back to Garfield when I hit a wall with other projects or want to experiment with new styles. He’s an endless well of inspiration, and I imagine he makes a perfectly sensible mermaid!

“Drowned Dog” - This one is based on a Garfield comic from 6/19/1984. Garfield smacked Odie with a rubber chicken, knocking him into his food bowl, and presumably Odie never appeared again because my read is that he died, but I guess there’s no way to know for sure. 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️
