I get so many questions from customers confused on if they should by a Closure or a Frontal. Many don’t know the difference between the two and they end up not liking it and left unsatisfied with their purchase. In this post I will thoroughly explain the difference between the two to help make your decision a little easier on which on to get that best fits you and your needs.
Closures can be purchased and used for a sewin install or wig installs. If placed properly, it can be worn with no hair left out for a protective hairstyle. The closure piece gives the appearance of a natural scalp but does not run temple to temple. The sole purpose of the closure is to close off the style where a “leave out” part would be, hence that’s where the closure gets its name. Closures have freestyle parting and flesh color fabric to make it blend with the scalp. The structure of the closure is made from a silk like mesh to make it look more natural to the scalp. There are some closures that are made with lace materials and might not look as natural. With a lace closure you will have to do more to make it look natural such a bleaching or tenting the knots to match the scalp.
A frontal or lace front piece is to give the wearer a realistic hairline and mimic hair growing from the scalp. The frontal covers more area running temple to temple. With a frontal installment you have more options in hair styles that are off the face that a Closure will not give you. You still have to bleach the knots to blend with the scalp. Frontals are high maintenance and requires more work than a Closure, might have to be glued or tapped down to the edge where the hairline starts to stay in place and is sturdy and won’t slide.
From personal experience I have tried both frontal and closure. I personally would prefer a Closure because it is easier to deal with and cheaper than the frontal. Closures work better for me because I have a small head so it’s hard to make the frontal fit and line up with my hairline. It just depend on the style that you are going for to figure out which works best. The way I choose if I want to purchase a frontal or Closure is first I determine what style I’m going for… if I want a sewin I’ll get a Closure and if I want to wear a wig I will get a frontal. Since then I have not run into any problems using both.
Closures depends on the quality of the hair and the construction on how the closure was made. Well constructed closure could last up to 3 to 5 years and others 3 to 12 months with proper care.
Lace fronts are put through more but it also depends on the way you care for the hair and the quality of the hair it could last up to 3-12 months.
I hope this post helped someone out there who was confused and needed some information on frontals and closures.
