"I suspect that most modern foods will … ‘blow my mind’ as you say," he replied with a faint smirk. However, he was impressed that she would continue their game of using forgotten terms; so he would oblige as well.
Were you a teacher?
"Oh yes, and technically, in many ways, I still am. And I must say that it is a pleasure to be holding a conversation with a bluestocking such as yourself." To be honest, that she was not from Mystic Falls was both refreshing and disheartening. For one, it was pleasant to speak to someone who was unfamiliar with his name; but for another, the visitors he witnessed enter the town and meet unfortunate demises.
Upon learning her name came from a mother with a literary obsession, Nathaniel smiled a bit more with a nod, understanding. "I think Darcy Abrams is a fine name for a lady," he agreed warmly.
Thank you, if they ever turn out edible, I’ll make sure to get you some.
"Well, thank you. I appreciate that," he chuckled softly. Going on to speak about stewed potatoes, he couldn’t help but grin at that. "Winter will be here before you know it. Best enjoy these lovely days of fall while you can."
Darcy smiled at him as he repeated 'blow my mind'. It was quite amusing to see a man, especially one as old-fashioned and proper as him, use modern slang. But she liked it, there was nothing wrong with updating one's vocabulary. Nodding her head she smiled as she thought about food. "Have you tried pizza yet? I don't think it's that modern, but it's very common but delicious."
They continued their little game and Darcy bit her lip. This was fun to challenge herself to place words she didn't usually say into her speech. "I knew it, you seem like the scholarly type." He complimented her and the brunette beamed at him. "Why thank you, you aren't that bad to talk to yourself. You might even be a mensch." It seemed like it was a good thing that the veil was down, or else she wouldn't be having a normal conversation with Pike.
Brushing a strand behind her ear, Darcy smiled softly at his compliment. "Thanks, I always thought it seemed a bit fancy for me, but it grew on me over the years."
"No problem, while the veil is down you should at least enjoy every little thing you can." They started to talk about winter and she pursed her lips. "Honestly, I'm more of a summer person. I love the serotinal time of year. It's light for longer, it's not too hot, and it's great to just sit outside and paint." she smiled softly at the memory of the late summers of her past. "But those potatoes might make winter bearable.
