An absolute badass
Olympe de Gouges was super cool. I have one of her quotes saved in my screenshots: “A woman has the right to mount the scaffold. She must possess equally the right to mount the speaker’s platform.”
Akira Armstrong was in two Beyoncé videos, but couldn’t find an agent to represent her as a professional dancer because of her size. To change the narrative around what a dancer’s body should look like, Akira started her own dance company, made up of plus-size dancers. “Pretty Big Movement” is destroying dancer stereotypes, one routine at a time.
This is so needed
Heree for this!!! WERK BITCH
Forever reblog
Now that’s how you ally. That’s putting it on the line and showing solidarity. That’s how you use your white privilege for good.
”It’s nice to go out and march, we can do that. It’s nice to wear black at the Golden Globes, but what are you doing behind closed doors?” - Jada Pinkett Smith
It’s easily one of the cleanest examples of intersectional feminism I’ve seen in a minute. It’s the polar opposite of white feminism, where white women are concerned primarily with the wellbeing and advancement of other white women. If more white men and women stood up and demanded basic fairness instead of just talking about it—and not just in Hollywood—we might really begin to impact racism and close the pay gap that always gets inflicted upon black people in most careers.
how to use your white privilege for good!
Angela Davis (b. 1944) is a political activist and academic who played an important part in the Civil Rights Movement. She was also the director of the Feminist Studies department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
She began her academic career as a philosophy professor at UCLA, but was fired because of her association with the Communist Party. She founded the organization Critical Resistance, against the prison-industrial complex, and has written numerous books on women’s and civil rights.
Ashley James on Celebrity Big Brother UK suggested that the men would know how to light a fire because of Scouts but Brownies (and women) would not. Incorrect! Ashley needs to be educated in what Brownies (and Rainbows, Guides and Senior Section/Rangers) actually do - so I’ve invited her to one of our Brownie meetings. Come on Ashley, we will teach you how to light a fire!

I’m proud to be a part of girlguiding. This is what girlguiding is teaching…

I love the organisation I am a part of! Girlguiding builds strong, independent women!
These are funny and sad at the same time!

“I didn’t start publishing Pennsylvania’s Orange Street News so that people would think I’m cute. I want to get the truth to people, even if it makes grownups mad,” says 9-year-old Hilde Kate Lysiak, publisher of and reporter for the Orange Street News.
After reporting on a suspected homicide in Selinsgrove, Pa., Hilde was harassed by “disgusted” adults commenting on her site, saying her time would be better spent at tea parties and playing with dolls.
Hilde has something to say, and she takes no prisoners, firing back at her aging critics, with a video and in her column for the Guardian.
how pathetic do you have to be to pick on a literal nine year old
hired.
She reported this homicide before MAJOR NEWS OUTLETS had even heard of it. She’s tenacious and strong.
Godspeed Hilde
Amazing!
I have always been a fan of Plath and I always hated Hughes for what he did to her. I always wondered why he was allowed to get away with it and be praised as a great man. This article says it all - our current culture allows abusive men to continue and make women feel like they are crazy and wrong. It needs to change
Remember this.
This month our theme is LGBT fiction, and we will be reading “Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit,” by Jeanette Winterson! It was the overwhelming winner of our poll! I’ve wanted to read this for awhile, and I’m so excited to be able to discuss it with everyone!
