Book Star Rating System:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - This work unleashed worms into my Brain. This will permanently change me as a person.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ - This work is really good, I solidly will recommend it to most people with appropriate caveats.

⭐⭐⭐ - This work is good, but I have some nagging questions about it, or maybe I didn’t like it a whole lot but the book itself was fine construction wise.

⭐⭐ - This work was unpleasant for me to read, but technically didn’t have any large issues with its prose or content. Most times I cannot finish a book that would fit into this category. My DNFs all fall in here. 

⭐ - This work SUCKED!!!!!!!!!! Either the prose was terrible, or the content was not what it was hyped or advertised about, and the content that was there sucked, or any other amalgam of horrible where I can’t stop reading it or I am aggressively liveblogging how much I dislike it.

.5 - Fits solidly into the ⭐ category I selected, but has a bit of an edge.

.25 - I use this to save ⭐ and ⭐⭐ books from total embarrassment.

Schlocktober: A Fake Event Where Anything Goes

While other people are out here dropping Kinktober prompt lists with 9000 stipulations, I bring you this.

It's not a real October event, but it could be if you believe. The prompts are here for anyone to enjoy anyway.

Why "schlock"?

It means trash/junk, and that's the quality of content I'm striving for with these prompts. It's also fun to say.

But, y'know, if you want to take a prompt and turn it into a masterpiece of a whumpy longfic, go for it.

Sure.

No AI use. If you need an LLM to write your schlock for you, consider a long walk off a short pier. If you need it to do your editing for you, use a beta reader instead. A stick figure drawn on the back of a napkin is better than soulless AI art.

Tag appropriately. 'Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings' means anything goes. 'No Archive Warnings Apply' means your work is guaranteed not to contain any of the major archive warnings (non-con, major character death, graphic violence, or underage sex).

No irl bigotry. Your characters can be problematic as all get out, but if you try to post a weird pro-JK Rowling essay or something you're not going in the collection, bud. Don't kill the vibes.

Also, if it's someone who engages with a lot of mainstream media that's just normal. Doesn't mean you have to like it, but if you are bombarded with these stereotypes it's normal to have them influence your writing.

Not every story is for you. And not every story has to demolish stereotypes and change the world.

It's a hobby. It's supposed to make you feel good. Making others feel good is optional.

You know, I'm not really a huge fan of the way that a reasonable fandom norm - 'don't post unsolicited criticism of individual stories, because fandom is a hobby and not everyone is trying to improve, nor does anyone owe professional-quality fiction to a nebulous audience when they may only be writing for themselves' - has metastasized into 'never post anything critical of broad fandom trends, no matter how regressive, misogynistic, or otherwise bigoted, because someone might see it, connect it to their own writing, and feel bad'.

Like, obviously people write these things because they're soaking them up from the culture they live in. That is in fact exactly how prejudice works. That doesn't make it exempt from criticism.
