Update: I have a side-blog for spiritual stuff now (@finally-learning-to-be-me ). This main blog is mostly for fandom and general stuff. Norse Loki and MCU Loki are two very different things in my mind, but it can get confusing if it’s all jumbled up together in one blog.

Guess I should probably introduce myself on this platform...

Hi everyone. I'm a geeky, AuDHD, NB, Gen-X software engineer and parent. I'm a long-time Doctor Who fan, but since the Loki S2 finale I've been completely obsessed. (I mean, seriously? David Tennant and RTD were coming back and suddenly all I could think about was Loki? How did that happen?) I just needed others to share with as I'm socially isolated and my family doesn't get into these things the way I do.

If you couldn't tell from my previous posts, I spend a lot of time thinking about (over-thinking?) certain characters. Nice to read all of your posts and know that I'm not alone in this!

I don't really get emotionally invested in ships, but I don't mind reading others' takes on them. Lokius, Sylkie, OB/Casey, whatever. It's all good. The only thing I actively avoid (in any fandom or in tabloids, for that matter) is anything that involves shipping real, living people. That's a line I'm not comfortable crossing. I've dabbled in writing fan-fic in the past and I think I may do so again in the not-too-distant future.

Other interests include studying history and connecting with other autistic folk online. I've stopped using other social media platforms, though — too much drama and not enough listening. Who needs it?

I know I'm older than the vast majority of people here and I'm more than a little self-conscious about it. I seriously considered not mentioning it at all, but I've spent most of my life trying to hide who I really am in a vain effort to "fit in" and just don't want to do that anymore. Hope that's okay with you all. Truth is, I've never connected easily with people my own age.

Views: social democrat, strongly pro-LGBTQI+ (one of my daughters is trans and nothing brings out the mama-bear in me like transphobic nonsense), anti-genocide, Norse Pagan/agnostic, anti-bullying of any kind.

Oookay, so it sounds like the cancelation of the Xmas special is actually a very good sign regarding Doctor Who's importance to the BBC. The original idea at the Beeb was to air the special to "bridge the gap", but it would have meant that they couldn't put the show out to tender (i.e., accept pitches from production companies) until 2027. That would have meant a longer wait for a full series and the fresh start that pretty much everyone wants at this point. By beginning the process now, it means we get the full show back that much sooner.

Here is another doctor who take: I DO get why people didn't like Disney who did I DO get why people didn't like the Chibnall era but I do NOT get why it doesn't seem to register with people that going 'they should roll the show back to Capaldi's regeneration' is just an unbelievably bad look

I’ve been reading the One Piece panels posted under the #loki tag since the Loki character was introduced, mostly to see how that Loki was written. I’m not into manga or anything like that, but I found Luffy intriguing.

Tonight, my spouse and I watched the first couple of episodes of the show on Netflix. We both loved it! So silly, and yet uplifting.

Woah, something's going on. I posted on FB yesterday for the first time in 5 years (don't plan to use it that regularly, though). This morning, I find that Facebook is down.

downforeveryoneorjustme.com shows that it started with the meta sites (FB, Insta, Messenger) and then over the next 20 minutes, Twitter, WhatsApp, and TikTok went down. Something tells me these sites aren't all going down just because people are going there instead of FB and Insta.

My solution for the Billie Piper thing when the show comes back: It's just another one of those weird regenerations. This time, the Doctor is having trouble settling into a specific form, and is cycling through them — it's a bit like the regeneration in Curse of Fatal Death, but they're cycling through previous companions and other people who made a strong impression on them, until they all meld together and settle on the new actor. Something, something, we are all a mosaic of everyone we've ever met, something.

one thing i am very disappointed in the last series of doctor who for was that, per the media and particularly rtd's interviews, there was an implication that there would be a lot more meaningful disabled and transfem rep in the show, and what we got just...fell kinda flat. particularly when rose's entire role was just to stand in the corner with her arms folded and say nothing. i think we deserved better than that

Same. I'm saying this as someone who is close to RTD's age and was thrilled when he came back: we need a younger showrunner. We need someone who grew up on NuWho, who can take that foundation and make it relevant for a new generation, the way RTD did 20 years ago and tried but failed to do this time. I'm old enough to remember when gay people (almost always men) in TV/movies were never anything more than plot devices and (when the writers were trying to be supportive) a way to say "hey, look, aren't we enlightened?" Now we have a gay man doing the same thing with trans people and disabled people (and Russell's attitude toward women as revealed with that line in Star Beast and the hastily-rewritten finale is seriously a problem as well). It's progress, but for the show to keep progressing and become relevant to a younger audience, we need someone at the helm who is more in touch with how younger people see things. We still have the '26 Xmas special coming, and there's a pretty good chance that it'll involve the 14th Doctor and Donna's family, so fingers crossed that RTD will actually put Rose Noble front and center and actually explore who she is beyond "the trans character".

im actually just in disbelief, because either RTD is lying about there never having been a christmas special and he's just mad that he's been sacked and is being immature about it, or he's telling the truth and he spent the last year lying to literally everyone that he'd written something and had things planned and had specific storylines set out and that we're idiots for believing him? im not even upset im genuinely just confused because like. HUH ??

At some point, RTD stopped being a Doctor Who fan and became the kind of person who looks down on Doctor Who fans — and nowhere was that more apparent than in his writing over the past couple of series.

Revelation

Added a follow-up to my previous double-drabble, Reunion. This was heavily inspired by the comics.

(This happens after all the boring explanations are done and Thor is all caught up, more or less.)

“Come home, Brother.”

“You know I can’t.”

“There must be a way. I’ve missed you. I… need you.”

“And I you, but I knew when I assumed this throne, this can end but one way for me.”

“No!” Thor shook his head. “I will not allow it. I cannot lose you again!”

Loki smiled. “Thor, haven’t you learned by now? I always come back.” The old glint of mischief shone in his eyes. “In fact, I already have.”

“What do you mean? How?”

Loki’s smile broadened. “I’m there, waiting for you to return, like you promised.”

“Like I.. what?” Thor asked, but the realization was already dawning.

“Eternity and I have an understanding. Professional courtesy, and all that.”

Thor’s eyes widened. “Love…”

“Is me. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice how much she takes after her uncle? The mischief—”

“And the temper,” Thor added, still stunned.

“That too,” Loki admitted. “But you’re a better father than Odin was. She can choose a different path than I did.”

Thor hesitated. “But she is not my brother.”

“No. She’s your daughter, and that’s enough. For both of you.”

Thor cried, but whether these were tears of sorrow or joy, he couldn’t say.

The studio is basically run by a bunch of dude-bros. Female characters and male (let alone gender-fluid!) characters that challenge their stunted adolescent fantasies of what "the ideal man" should be are just never going to get the same kind of respect and attention from the films that characters like Thor, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, etc., get. Same goes for fans who aren't just like the people running things at Marvel.

But I'm not bitter or anything...
