put soaked fish flakes in for the first time yesterday.. this picture was taken (not exaggerating) less than two minutes after it was placed in there. they have never eaten anything so quickly!! I guess we have a new favorite! (in both the 2.5gal tank AND the 10)
so.. maybe we went a little overboard today š. 28 bigger snails, which Iām PRETTY sure are all Asian tramp. another adorable amber snail (i believe that's what they're called) to add to the colony. two tiny snails. have no idea what they are. and a tiny hitchhiker slug. Iām not too sure what to do with him. since I have no idea what he is and he produces too much slime, Iām not putting him in with the babies. but I also donāt want to keep him in the quarantine container or put him alone in my yard (got them from my grandmothers). Iām kinda stuck but weāll figure it out tomorrow.
wow.. trying to put the snails in the 10 gallon too soon was a HUGE mistake. four snails are dead (though one was having trouble before and one MAY have already been dead) plus a lot of Amber snails, but that was expected no matter what since quite a few of them I had taken when my dad's girlfriend cleaned the side of the house with bleach.. I felt too bad to leave them unwashed and possibly without food so I took them in (after a few small showers). the snails mentioned are in a picture a little while back in a small container. the one good thing coming from this is experience and learning. no more risks will be taken.
Terry's eggs finally hatched!! I counted five in this picture but there's way more. good thing these are native to our area so if they become too much for us we can always release them into our yard. now I really need to hurry up and fix the 10 gallon to get the bigger snails separated. I don't want anyone getting hurt.. plus I forgot how much hatchlings poop! it feels like I have to clean this thing everyday. and if you look in the back, you can see Terry next to a carrot with his breathing hole open.
two babies on old cabbage. Simon (what we call all of the rolly polly's since they're impossible to tell apart) was still white and transparent when I put him in this tank, now look at him! they grow up so fast. p.s. I'm thinking about creating a different name for the babies and juvenile isopods. I could use some suggestions, maybe something similar to Simon?

they're kind of blocked by a tiny brother on the side of the tank.. but the two that were mating are now dining together in the calcium dish
wow! mating and an egg in the same day. this could just be a test egg, but it still means that one of the snails are pregnant. these snails were put in a tiny container to check for casualties and as they come out I'm moving them to the main tank, but one of them left me this beautiful surprise! I guess they're a lot happier than I thought. (i believe the only one out at the time is the mommy, you can kind of see him at the top left)
I'm not sure about the quality of the video, and I know it's a bad angle but YAY!!! I finally caught two of them in the act, and on the side of them you can see what (i think) is two isopods mating right next to them. boy do we have a happy tank! ps. they're still playing around together even though I'm pretty sure they're done... or maybe not! either way, we'll have to watch out for eggs now.
I was going through my pictures and look what I found.. the original two š terry and oj. those also ended up being our first and only two snails to lay eggs. it feels like we've had them forever.
wow, found another small one in the same day. this one was under a small pile of dead grass I kicked over. you miss 100% of what you donāt look for š wonder what else Iām missing out on.
found a new baby. she was in direct sunlight on the side of the house, must have been so hot for the poor thing. sheās been named Jane.
good morning from Terry! he seems a little -sluggish- today but once it warms up it should get better. Terry was the one to really kick off our obsession of snails, but I wasnāt the one to find him (thank you, Marek).
