I am so excited!
Months after making a splash with her debut in the pages of 'Amazing Spider-Man' - the product of the Eureka idea of having a second person bitten by comics' most famous radioactive spider - Silk, aka Cindy Moon, will be the subject of a new series, the Daily News has learned.
Portlandia takes on "statement" art and art school with hilarious results.
Happy Valentine's Day darling!
This past weekend, "The Monuments Men" movie finally opened. As some of you know, I have really been looking forward to seeing this remarkable, yet little-known true story come to life.
One of the unsung heroes (or maybe just MY personal hero!), is Miss Ardelia Hall, who made the recovery and return of stolen cultural property her life's work.
During her nearly 20 years working for the State Department, she created over 50,000 object records to assist in this effort! That's just about one every 30 minutes, five days a week, for NINETEEN YEARS!! Truly a herculean task and a tremendous legacy.
Check out the article on this unprecedented group of scholars, gallery owners, artists and other art professionals recently posted on the Getty Iris, or check out the film! Let me know what you think!
"So you like donuts, eh?!" The perfect post for a Sunday morning....
Love the description of the alien in Aliens as the "Chestburster" that made me laugh. Also thrilled to see The Doctor made the list, since I *heart*heart* Doctor Who!
Have you been to Denver International Airport? If so, you've probably seen Satan's Steed (my title), that smurf blue mustang with the eerily illuminated RED eyes piercing your soul as you enter. What the hell? Here in my community, city council voted to install an equally controversial...sculpture(?) Although tame by comparison, the stylized surfboards-in-a-round (aka "Chips and Dip" or any number of other less publishable monikers) is complete with a misting water treatment, which has been riddled with problems since installation.
As a proud member of the Public Art Commission, I view the surfboard-chip sculpture, which is installed at the main entry point to our city, as a missed opportunity for a major installation of public art. As I understand it, faced with expiring funds and limited applicants, Council made the best decision they could at the time. Installed before the Public Art Commission was adopted, it may have been the impetus to create one!
Numerous studies have proven that public art in a community increases tourism, creates jobs, adds to the quality of life, provides educational opportunities and many more benefits. Get involved in your community by attending Public Art Commission meetings (open to the public!) and making your voice heard. When you choose to participate, you will gain value no matter what happens. Whether you love or hate the project, you will learn so much about the process. Create the community you want through your participation!
Adorable dalek? An oxymoron you say? Typically I would agree with you...but this comic warmed my sad little heart... awwwwwww......
So I've been a negligent blogger, a poor communicator, and a hermit loner. Don’t even get me started on Facebook updates. My links and stories are not exactly current, but still interesting yes? Hey, this is what happens when you're working (which as a consultant is great), traveling and volunteering all over the city (hello good karma!)
Today’s fantastic post, reminds us why a sharp collection manager e.g., SHERYL NAKANO is a good investment. Seriously, WHO LOSES THEIR CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY?! Moral of the story? Don’t get sued, just contact me…
This distressing situation, first reported several weeks ago by the venerable Art Newspaper, has received little attention from mainstream media. No updates on the case can be found, and I fear the worst for these men. Why?
Apparently, according to Chinese law, these two art shippers -- EMPLOYEES of a major international shipping company mind you, are facing some serious charges.
If they are found guilty, they may serve prison terms of ten years to LIFE! If that's not bad enough, in some cases, the death penalty can be imposed for those convicted of tax evasion. I hope the private collector whose artwork was being imported, is brought to justice, and the two people who may have just been filing the paperwork that was provided to them are released.
If anyone has any updates on this story, please let me know.
How true is this!? Love it...!
At the Palm Springs International Film Festival this past weekend, Mr. Clooney announced that he has committed to making a film about the Monument Men, a heroic group of both men and women soldiers from the MFAA (Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives) section, who saved countless irreplaceable works of art during WWII.
Was it really necessary to suggest criminal activity as a potential use for this new technology? Luckily we have a long way to go before we need to worry too much.

Very inspiring TED talk by Boston-based public artist Janet Echelman. Someone "moved her cheese" and she used the opportunity to change the entire course of her career. How would you have responded, if a similar situation happened to you?
Featuring the lovely Barbara Pflaumer, now speaking on behalf of LACMA! It appears the ever-expanding museum on Wilshire has acquired a large boulder that needs to be relocated --for the staggering sum of $1.5 million. That's not the cost for the artwork mind you, just for the TRANSIT of the base materials! It hasn't been carved into an artwork yet!
In my opinion, the cool part of this whole deal will be the logistics of the move. Due to the fancy rock's tremendous girth, a specially outfitted rig will be used and will only be able to travel at night -- with a maximum speed of SEVEN MPH! Good thing the rock is in (Riverside) Southern California!
Although, it could have been a cool marketing opportunity. Imagine, waking up in the middle of the night. You can't sleep, so you pull up the LACMA website and watch the live webcam of "The Rock" slowly creeping it's way across the country. It's almost like counting sheep, in slow motion...
