I paid the girl’s handler a rather exorbitant sum of francs for a private viewing.  Behind the curtain, I heard her protests in a foreign tongue, followed by the harsh snap of a hand colliding with her skull.  She yelped in pain and my stomach twisted.

Her handler pulled the curtain back and pushed her past it.  She looked everywhere but at me, her eyes focused on the walls of the tent, then at her own shoes and the ground.  In her hands, she clutched a violin and bow.

“Here she is, our little corpse, the Draugr from the North,” the man snickered.  Behind her mask, she flinched, for she knew what was coming next.  Her dignity was snatched away by that wretched man.  Having seen one of her performances before, I steeled myself for the sight of her bare face.  My features remained impassive, I didn’t wish to spook the poor creature any more than necessary.

 Instead of Christine just gazing off into the audience and Meg looking at her like “Girl you crazy…” Christine and Meg do an adorable spin. I actually really like the blocking for this entire scene! I love how Christine comes into a full room of ballerinas who all start chattering and going along on their business. It shows the busyness of the opera! They are dressing, warming up, drinking. It really adds to the texture of the show I feel!
