THIS IS THEIR SONG "My head's a wild place, I've considered every way / Words I'll forget, deeply regret, he'll run away / And nothing brings me fear like meeting with my destiny / But like clockwork, think he fell in love with me" dani is almost always in her own head and overthinking everything and he DID fall in love with her again "I know I'm dramatic, but I caved in at his touch / I want him forever, oh, my God, I've said too much" & "But good God, I think he fell in love / Ticktock, and I fell in love too / Like clockwork, I fell in love with you" they are so down bad for each other like denying it would be crazy because it was so obvious. And they had initially been in love when they were kids, fake dates as friends, the FELL IN LOVE AGAIN LIKE CLOCKWORK.

BUT THEN HER AND WES BREAK UP BECAUSE OF THEIR FALLING OUT but she still lowkey loves him and the events of the second book when she realizes again that her feelings haven't fully gone away?? and they still have their spark??? it's her song, oh my dayysss

CLAIRE & LIZZIE .ᐟ track 04 : castle in hollywood ― FRIENDSHIP BREAK UP !!!!! that's how i interpreted the song and it's fits them so well this way, like i'm SOBBING "It's a heartbreak / Marked the end of our girlhood / We'll never go back to our castle in Hollywood" they were bestfriends at some point then the whole blow up with lizzie's comments and claire's relationship w gibies got me thinking of them to this song
SCARLETT & JULIAN .ᐟ track 05 : carousel ― this reminds me so much of them in the first book!! Like, during the game when scarlett was still very guarded but slowly beginning to notice her feelings for julian. Also the lyric "I thought I would go under, 'til we met" and this one quote “The boy who’d saved her from drowning in more ways than one. ” it's just so perfect!! (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) Another thing is that scarlett was scared of allowing herself to fall in love because of her past with her father and the fact that she was supposed to marry the count "My life is a circus / Hold on for all I bring with me / You make me nervous / Take my sincere apology" & "I'm waiting for you to see / The things that are wrong with me"
DONATELLA & LEGEND .ᐟ track 06 : silver lining ― their whole relationship just gives me the same vibe as this song does. tella is very vibrant and loyal and she found dante, who doesn't dim her personality and is just as loyal. "When you go to hell, I'll go there with you too / And when we're punished / For being so cruel / The silver lining's I'll be there with you" my babies fr ♡ like i can't even explain it more in depth but the song just reminds me so much of them "Never been calm or collected / No one ever called me sweet / What a miracle, I found a darling / I met you at the worst time / Fell in love on a whim / Now we pirouette in fields of rosy sin"
EVANGELINE & JACKS .ᐟ track 07 : too little, too late ― i don't mean this full song but the idea behind it (it that makes sense (?)) after evangeline lost her memories, jacks was still in love with her but he was "too late" to eva after her memories got erased and APOLLO "I read in the papers, he's someone that girls dream about / Some kind of ruler on top of a kingdom" got his greasy hands on her. Also he wanted to tell her abt who he was, right?? "Whisper vows, I'll never say to you / 'Cause it's too little, all too late" & "I didn't need the reminder of things I've done wrong / Of promises broken, fragility hidden in song / Guess that we're soulmates in different lifetimes / What if you leave him, throw me a lifeline" all the times jacks lied and kind manipulated her, but like.... he still loves her and, yes, this song, LEAVE YOUR HUSBAND (i know evajacks ends up together in acftl but this song is like this part, no??)

JUDE & CARDAN .ᐟ track 09 : forget-me-not ― this one might be a bit of a stretch but this song gives me MAJOR them vibes. They're SO devoted to each other "Love you forever, don't let go of me / I left my own homeland to chase reverie" jude is from the human world so that could technically be considered her homeland and chasing reverie could refer to her being a knight and proving herself if we're taking this literally, BACK ON TOPIC THO. both were MISERABLE during jude's exile "I'll die if I wither in your memory" and over all, imo the feel of the song is very fantasy and just fits the setting of the cruel prince and their relationship very well
DONATELLA & JACKS .ᐟ track 10 : tough luck ― the song is litterally a good riddance to jacks from tella!! when she was finaly done with dealing with him "Tough luck, my boy, your time is up / I'll break it first, I've had enough / Of waiting 'til you lie and cheat / Just like you did to the actress before me" i mean.... she didn't want to be like the girls he left before him, heart broken (dead) and cheated (like when he married her without her knowing) AND THE BRIDGE. oh, the bridge is so perfect "I should congratulate thee for so nearly convincing me / I'm not quite as smart as I seem / That I'm a loudmouthed nobody / My accent and music are dumb / Your tattoos are no better, hun / The proof says you're tragic as fuck / The truth is that's just tough, tough luck" like hello?? jacks manipulates tella and uses her for his own gain, treating her as a fool but my girl isn't!!! she is awesome and this song is very her to him
JULIETTE & ADAM .ᐟ track 11 : a cautionary tale ― I WANT TO SAY THAT I AM PERSONALLY NOT AN ADAM HATER. i just think it fits the nature their initial relationship. when juliette was with adam she was still figuring herself out and it was her first time in a relationship now outside her confinement "A first time for lovers / A first time in agony" then also in ignite me (i think when the blow up/break up happened) he treats her as if she's evil even though she gave away her love to him for free when she didn't even know him that well? and even though she did her best to be good for him when she was still figuring out how life outside worked "I gave it too much, I gave myself up / I lost sight of all my dignity / I've always been smart, my chameleon heart / Took your draining personality and gave it to me / I wanted to please you, this performance of a lifetime / My heart to you handed, you took it for granted / And made me the villain, all alone" i feel that adam was very insecure and definitely under immense stress under the events of the book, that's why he blew up on her and didn't really consider his words, or apologize till later "Who coils up in jealousy, to mask his insecurities / And I can't fix you, God, I tried / The hourglass I shattered just in time"
LOCKE .ᐟ track 12 : mr. eclectic ― oh my god i hate this bitch. the song is about a guy who tries to appear to be deap but comes off as STUPID and SHALLOW and ANNOYING?? right. i feel like that is literally LOCKE. he LOVES dramatics or wtv cardan said but he sucks. i don't need to elaborate further, do i?? "Bet you think you're so poetic / Quoting epics and ancient prose / Truth be told, you're quite pathetic" & "Did you ever stop and give a wonder to / Just who you were talking to? / The very expert on the foolish things / That men have said to woo and win me over / What a poser, you think you're so interesting"
SCARLETT & TELLA .ᐟ track 13 : clean air ― when they get away from their father's control!!! clean air away from that abusive environment "Now sweeter pastures, wait for me like a lover / Lord knows I've suffered, get the fuck out of my atmosphere / I'm breathing clean, clean air" when they were finally able to live their lives freely, yay!!
VIOLET & XADEN .ᐟ track 14 : sabotage ― yes, i do realize sabotage and betrayal are different things. Bear with me though. Xaden betrayed Violet by hiding the truth about the venin and the rebellion, which put her and others in danger during the "War Games" trap at Athebyne. He withheld crucial information because he feared Dain would use his mind-reading ability to expose the rebellion and their weapon supply to the leadership "It's just a matter of time 'til you see the dagger / It's a special of mine to cause disaster / So prepare for the impact, and brace your heart / For cold, bloody, bitter sabotage" and he also tried to tell violet he really did love her but she doesn't believe him (when she corrects love to loved) "You assure me you love me / Your message won't go through / Why won't it go through?"
JUDE & CARDAN .ᐟ track 15 : sabotage r. 1 ― Cardan sabotaged jude's efforts to have some control over the crown (and before she was able to become high queen) obviously we do know that the exile was apart of a bigger plan but STILL. It fits this scenario because it was still shocking and heartbreaking because jude didn't know that.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐃 had arrived.
You didn’t have to glance up from your less than ideal vantage point on the grimy floor of a warehouse to know.
There was a tangible shift in the air. You would’ve attempted to taste it had you not been bound and gagged.
Your gaze finds him whether you want it to or not, however.
He stands in the half-light, imposing and striking as you’d heard. His attire is a stark contrast to what you know of vigilantes: he lacks the Bat’s subtlety in colour scheme, but regains his essence in presence. The weight of it, despite that untouchable silence. Perhaps the theories floating around tying him to Batman weren’t so far-fetched after all.
The little girl beside you, trembling in her bindings, whimpers, and you shush her to the best of your ability, gesturing vaguely with your body and making whatever comforting noise can escape the plastic ensnaring your mouth.
It’s in part to keep the criminals holding the two of you from having an excuse to pulverise her. But, in truth, you’re also not sure of the Red Hood’s temperament, if he cares for the so-called ‘weakness’ betrayed by a child’s fear.
The ringleader of the goons slinks from his perch atop a barrel in the centre of the warehouse.
“Hood. Glad to see you.”
As he speaks, one of his henchmen hauls the little girl cowering in your direction to her feet roughly. The noise that escapes you is that of a wounded animal. You drag your useless, bound body towards him, baring your teeth and attempting to bite into the plastic.
How dare they?
Take an innocent little girl, hurt her, brand her with their fear and fierce hands?
The henchman does not care.
He drags the little girl (god, you don’t even know her name) across the floor with no care. None at all. She cries out and so do you as the man presses the barrel of a gun to her temple in punishment.
You thrash until two henchmen seize your torso, dragging you backwards.
Red Hood goes rigid at the sight of the girl, now just beside the ringleader.
You’ve never seen anyone so still.
The ringleader’s face splits into a terrible grin and you’re desperate to close your eyes against the horror of it. You watch every second. “How about you give me those pretty guns, Hood, hm?”
Red Hood’s fingers twitch in his gloves. He draws out a gun slowly, slowly, achingly slowly.
“If you play with that trigger,” the ringleader warns, sing-song, “my friend here will have to hurt your friend there.”
He gestures to the little girl, who is now overcome with tremors, and the man’s gun pressed to her brow, skating up and down her forehead.
You wonder what Red Hood will do. Surely his pride comes over some civilian.
He hurls the gun onto the stained floor, the clank silencing your doubt.
“Now the helmet. And the knives in those boots, Hoodie.”
You can almost see the vigilante’s jaw working, but all the same he drags off his helmet gradually, leaving on a domino mask beneath. Then he sinks to one knee to extract the knives from his heels.
“And the fucking mask.”
Now you watch his teeth grit as the Red Hood bows his head, peeling off the mask with a hiss between his teeth. If you were to look closely, you would see that he always keeps his eyes, at least partially, on the little girl. She’s trying to cry silently and the sight of it is enough to make your throat close up.
Though she reminds you of her still-beating pulse every second click of the trigger, which seems to startle her to life: she fights and fights. She’s braver than you.
He doesn’t look how you’d expect, not really. Younger, for one, probably similar age to you. And a kind of battered pretty, is what you gauge from what you can see of him. His eyes an unnaturally bright green, unnerving in the dim and sleepy light.
The loathing in his eyes is unadulterated.
As the ringleader commands, he removes his body armour, the remainder of his knives, and your stomach twists.
The ringleader? He’s loving it. Almost maniacal in his delight at reducing the Red Hood to this.
Your eyes, like the vigilante’s, can’t help flicking to the girl every so often. She’s deathly still, now, and you feel as if you could double over with the nausea. Would she make a sound, if the trigger was pulled?
“I did it.” Red Hood speaks, his voice ragged without the modulator he’s known for. “What do you want to do now, exactly?”
You notice his heel tapping the floor — once, twice, and the little girl suddenly screams. So loudly that the goons momentarily turn their attention to her as she breaks free. Lax fools. But you don’t.
Because the Red Hood is in motion.
He lunges into a handstand of sorts and twists his body as he flips, knocking the gun from a henchman’s hand with one foot, casting it to the ground. It goes off upon the men’s feet and Red Hood jumps back to meet the ringleader as the others yell. He tips his body back in a free fall, one hand twisting to catch the ringleader’s knife, twisting until the breaking of a wrist.
You think he’ll go for the ranks at the back of the warehouse, armed and shooting, but instead he dives for the little girl, pressing her down with one hand on her shoulders, shielding her body with his.
The men lining the back wall are too cowardly to come any closer, and none have particularly good aim. If they do, you doubt Red Hood would let it show, though.
He rises to a crouch in a serpentine motion, and the little girl..is gone.
“Alright, alright,” he swivels, now on his feet. “This has been fun, gentleman. But you know the rules. My rules.”
You’re suddenly dropped, promptly, to the floor, and a whoosh of air leaves you.
The Red Hood’s eyes meet yours, and his eyes widen before he scowls. “Shoulda fuckin’ known you didn’t stop at kids.”
He draws a gun — where the hell did he get that? — and grins. “Step away from her or start unbinding you fuckin’ vermin. Now.”
The group scatters, and two quaking men drop to their knees to untie you frantically.
Red Hood oversees it all, his teeth practically bared.
One of them brushes a finger over your lips, despite his better judgment. He’s the one who dragged the little girl in to begin with, so it doesn’t surprise you that he’s perverted in the face of death.
You don’t think the Red Hood’s seen for a moment. Until the man moves to walk and you hear a bang. He slumps 15 meters from you. Ah.
The second men tending to you yelps and shies away once you’re completely free.
You scramble to your feet all the same, maybe find the little girl, check on her. Or just go home. It’s selfish; you’re shaken.
The Red Hood catches your wrist, touch startlingly gentle. “Sorry, I shoulda-“ his attention snaps like a whip to the group still huddled at the back of the warehouse, “-don’t you bastards fuckin’ consider running. I like a hunt.” He turns back to you, tone softening, “-shoulda got you out earlier. See if you can find the girl, hm? Said her name’s Alyssa.”
You nod shakily. Later you’ll wonder how he even got the girl’s name, let alone remembered it. The Red Hood you’d heard of would never retain or learn that. But the Red Hood you now knew had just saved your life. And apologised for not doing so in a timely manner.
“Thank you.” You say, because it’s all you know how to in that moment. It’s then you notice the blood snaking down his side. “Oh- you’re-“
“I’m fine,” he tells you, like it’s a fact, and the warmth of his touch disappears as though it was never there when he lets go of you. “Go.”
And that’s how you realised that perhaps justice was red.
