WE'RE HIRING (AGAIN)! ✨
Our studio is on the hunt for assistant sprite/CG artists & a creature/monster artist to work with us on our supernatural romance visual novel, Burn the Midnight Oil! ✨
We're looking for artists who are able to match the game's pre-existing art style. The assistant character artists are expected to work on the colors and/or lineart, while the monster artist will be required to design and draw non-human characters from scratch.
This is a paid job with an expected timeframe of 1 to 2 years, starting in early 2026!
Interested? Learn more and apply here.
thats so crazy how did that happen
We just finished up another round of Velox Fabula, and I figured I'd post the winning game here! This jam ran for 10 days and several devs made some neat games for it. Worth checking them all out.
The theme: SENTIENT CITY/SETTING The winner: A Garden of Impossible Objects Playtime: ~5-10 min
We'll be back in a few months for the 4 day edition of this jam. If you'd like to participate, we'll see you then!!!!

FALL IS HERE!! HOW!!
IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD... EARLY ACCESS IS OUTTTTT
Thank you for everyone who has supported the game already! The reception to Early Access has already been so rewarding to see, and I can't wait to get the game fully released to you all <3
Play Now on Itch or Steam
We actually already hit the "10 reviews" milestone that is so important on Steam, so thank you to everyone who has already left a review! And if any of you have the game on Steam and liked it, please consider leaving a review on Steam so that more people can see the game and buy it ^^
ALSO for those of you who have played the demo or any version of the game on Itch, please consider leaving a rating/comment on the new Itch page! I've relocated the game and demo to a new Itch page (I bonked the earlier one because I was a noob when I made it and made an oopsie heh). So the new game page doesn't have a lot of reviews/ratings, and we lost the 450+ ratings from the old game page <\3 Even if you haven't played the Early Access game, please consider leaving a review since I am definitely In Mourning over losing 3 years worth of reviews/ratings on the Itch game page ;A;
EA FANART!! Credit to @dreamtydraw for the CUTIEEEE fanart. More fanart is in the Discord Server for those who'd like to join
Now... we can get into the devlog, but I'll admit it's pretty short because of the EA Release!
This month, we finally are close to The End of Kuna'a's developmental edits, meaning his route will almost be ready for beta testing! Honestly, developmental edits are waiting on me now LFJALSDJF because I've been busy and Wudgey has been A Trooper.
So as soon as I get to those developmental edits, Kuna'a's route will be That Much Closer to being ready to play!
I've also been hacking away Slowly at Aisa's route. I'll admit, scripting has been a bit slow for me. It's been a while since I've full-on scripted, so I'm rusty and especially with Aisa's route, it's been hard to keep track of which lore to drop and where. I ended up rewriting almost their entire outline because of how much the game's story has changed over the past five years.
But hopefully, now that Early Access is out of the way, I can dedicate some more time to getting back into my scripting routine and make some decent headway on Aisa's route this next month! I'd like to Definitely have their route finished scripting by like.. November ideally but end of the year if necessary. So we'll see how close I am to that goal next devlog!
I'm trying to think if I did any art this month, and I think I literally just made my EA Thirst Trap post OFSJDOIFJ
I have some art pieces I'd like to draw on the backburner---to thank everyone for the EA reception. But unfortunately, I've been Super Tired this past week or so after release and have been a bit slow on the Optional Tasks.
We do have some Exciting commissioned pieces in the making thanks to everyone's continued support on Patreon. While I can't show sneak peeks now, you all should be excited for the day you will eventually get to see them
This month, we made Alaris controller friendly thanks to goated Feniks (again). I will have to eventually put a controller map into the game so that people know what the controls are LOL, but that will be a task for another day when I'm more sane.
We will also be doing another round of VA recording this upcoming month to put more voice lines into the game! People have already been loving the voiced lines, which means sm to me since I am very proud of our talented VA cast and love seeing people send them love!
In total, we will probably do about three recording sessions for VA, so by Full Release, I think a good amount of Alaris will be voice acted actually, which is really exciting! Again, none of this would be possible without you all and your support, so just know that every time you choose to support the game, every little bit goes right back into making it better for you <3
Other than that, I mentioned it earlier, but we do have a Discord server for the game now! So if you'd like to join, even if you haven't played EA and just want to thirst together over the LIs, share your theories, see other people's fanart of the game, etc., our comfy community is open to the public!
Another devlog without market research... It's been trying and busy times in Crescence world. But I hope to One Day get back on my VN bullshit and make fanart!!!
I will make ONE RECOMMENDATION THO!!!
ANDREW MY BELOVED!!! Game by @lavendeerstudios
If you haven't played yet, Threads of You: Beyond the Bay came out with a recent demo update. While I haven't gotten the chance to play the updated demo, even the old one was saur cutie and I'm just WAITING for the moment I have the time to sit down and play!!!
Definitely check out the demo if you haven't already, and actually... you might just see a cameo from two familiar characters :3c
Anyway, that's it for this devlog! Not too much to talk about but an exciting month nonetheless.
Stay safe, and for those who have/will have Early Access, enjoy enjoy enjoy!!!!
And also....
If you haven't given the game a rating on Itch or Steam....... please consider helping a crescence out....

Interrogation chamber × Psychological horror × Otome
You were found unconscious, alone near a restricted Antarctic research outpost— No coat, no ID, and no memories you can trust. You are taken into an interrogation room at the edge of the world, to face three strangers who might fall in love with you... or pull the trigger. You have six days. And he—can end the game at any time.
⚠︎ Currently in development , playable demo available: https://drunk-mantis.itch.io/no-right-answer

No Right Answers is a psychological romance visual novel. You spend six days trapped in an interrogation room, facing three strangers who might fall for you—or kill you.
Name your character. Choose your pronouns. Every line of dialogue influences trust, intimacy, and something far more unknowable. Uncover buried memories, unravel ancient cosmic mysteries, and question what it means to be human—or what's left of it.
Inspired by Lovecraftian horror and existential romance.

Thank you for reading this far! I’m so happy to meet you through my very first in-progress game.
No Right Answers will continue development through 2025. I’ll be posting little sketches, mini scenes, and dev snippets on my socials! and maybe even open a Q&A box if people are curious. If you're interested, feel free to follow me and join the journey along and watch me lose my mind in this frozen interrogation
I think it's absolutely wild how DATV and DA2 are complete opposites of each other almost down to the letter. I find this super interesting because both were 'rushed' (DAtV as it stands today only had a few years in development, even though there was a ten year gap because they kept scrapping things) and yet the developers chose to focus on completely different things when they knew they wouldn't have as much time as they'd like.
Like.
DAtV is an absolutely beautiful game in terms of graphics. Stunningly so. Even for the time it came out, DA2 had bad graphics.
DAtV has multiple interesting maps; even those without a lot of content are still varied and again, quite beautiful. DA2 reuses all it's dungeon maps without shame.
DAtV allows you to create a Rook with a unique backstory, race and appearance. DA2 you have to be human and you'll always have the same backstory.
HOWEVER DAtV doesn't give Rook a lot of real choices or personality options. Rook acts the same basically no matter how you play them. Hawke has three main personalities and when the game doesn't let you pick dialogue it will make Hawke speak in whatever of these three you most commonly pick.
DA2 is a game about systematic injustices, power and how you deal with both. DAtV scrubbed all systematic injustices from Thedas and made all that stuff background at best, completely ignored and forgotten at worst.
DA2 is full of companions who can be genuinely antagonistic with the player; they even have a rivalry system to account for the fact. A lot of cut scenes can end with you shouting or being mean to each other. DAtV everyone is nice and speaks in therapy speak. There's no real way to lose approval or to get mad at your companions.
DA2 has companions who hate one another; they're antagonistic if you bring them out and they are just mean a lot of the time. The closest DATV gets to this is Taash and Emmrich and rook 'solves' their fight super easily and then they get along great. Also, the reason they're arguing is just Taash finds Emmrich creepy not you know. A big political difference in opinion.
DA2 gives Hawke the chance to pick 'evil' options. You, personally, can kill your companions and you can also just be a dick. DAtV forces you to play as a hero all the way down to the heroic pre-written backstory.
There's I'm sure more contrasts. But I think what it comes down to is that DAtV prioritised being a 'good' game in terms of things like graphics, maps and had a more sanitised version of Thedas so 'everyone' could enjoy it. Whereas DA2 dropped the graphics and maps almost completely so it could focus on conflict, politics and interpersonal relationships.
And I think this kinda mirrors a LOT of modern gaming compared to games made 10 - 20 years ago. But it's even more starkly obvious because of the fact that they were both rushed so it's very clear what prioritises they picked.
Salutations.
