Steven Universe RPG
Hey everyone! Your boi is at it again. This time I am organizing a team to work on a steven universe RPG. Over the next 2 months we are going to make a sprawling text adventure RPG that has a ton of gem lore, unique items, and mechanics that we plan to implement in a full release. Once we finish the text adventure we will use it to promote our second stage of the projectāthe full release.
Stage 1 will require:
Programmers
Writers
Stage 2 will require:
Programmers
Writers
Artists
Designers
Modelers
Audio effect
Voice actors
Other new roles
As you can see, the required talent quadruples for the second stage. Thatās why it is important for us to make this text RPG truly amazing so that we can get the word spread around.
If you would like to join the project, drop a throwaway email below and I will invite you to our hacknplan, a video game project management tool that will be used to track our hours, tasks, and other brainstorming.
I will be setting up a Discord for this as well so we can communicate efficiently. This project is open for people of all levels. All submitted work will be reviewed and tested before being pushed to the main branches of the project.
computer science can seem like an intimidating field to get started in, but with hard work and a few key study strategies itās definitely possible for anyone to succeed and do well! here are a few of the strategies that iāve found help me succeed in my computer science classes:Ā

Took a bit of a hiatus.
Came back to almost 9,000 followers, and tons of messages asking for advice.Ā
I canāt express how sorry I am about not replying or posting for so long; after my summer internship, I started working a part-time job, taking another full course load, and was pretty stressed out. But things are much more manageable now.Ā
I hope youāve all been well and excelling in your computer science aspirations! I will continue to post here when I have any resources or advice for you guys, and will try to make this as active as I can again. Feel free to DM me any questions and I will reply asap.

That being said, if you want to keep up with me on a personal level, I do have a personalĀ TwitterĀ Ā and now a Medium Blog where I will post tutorials/guides on all sorts of tech-related things (coding, streaming, software, gaming, etc), personal posts on my experience in computer science, and thoughts I have on certain topics. I will of course share the links to these posts on here when I post them, so you wonāt have to keep up with them on multiple platforms.
I was a bit hesitant on connecting my online persona with this blog but I honestly canāt manage separate personas for this. :PĀ
I also stream occasionally on Twitch; so far Iāve only been streaming my main MMO that I play, but a big goal for myself is to stream my journey of developing my first game on stream with viewers, streaming some of the programming games Iāve posted about on this blog, and maybe even IRL streams where we can have a Q&A about programming, or just chill conversations. You can follow me on Twitch here.
Sorry this was off-topic! Just wanted to give you guys some more ways to get in touch. Have a splendid week!

Science-communication training can give researchers perspective on their work and gird them against impostor syndrome.
I was reading this article (which y'all should check out because it is great⦠esp you grad students) when I cam across this excerpt that struck a cord with me so I thought I would share.
Lastly, impostor syndrome taught me that sometimes scientists are hard to understand because weāre afraid of being understood. If we can be analyzed, we can be criticized. One student confessed, āI hope the audience gets lost because then they wonāt ask me hard questions.ā Talking clearly about our work is an act of vulnerability ā people see our real selves, and they also see our real work, with all its limitations.
Iāve been thinking on this since I read it and it is a great article. For one thing, science communications is often presented as a volunteer opportunity in graduate school settings and we know that volunteer work has positive impacts on mental health and your sense of engagement with your community.
I try to do one science communications volunteer event a month. Iāve hit that goal for two years running and Iām pretty damn proud of that (21 volunteering sessions in 2016, 11 so far in 2017). I also feel like it helps me pay back the community around me. I mean, yes, you donāt get paid a lot to go to graduate school but a lot of your work is tax payer funded (if you arenāt just outright paid from tax payer money) and I feel like because of this, communicating my work back to them is part of my duty. Sometimes Iāve very specifically explaining my research but Iām also frequently explaining basic science.
Itās also just fun! Itās fun to go make slime with kids or go streak bacteria samples with adult students or write a blog post about what youāre working on.
