It’s funny that Bigfoot is stated as being a master of kumite specifically and not Karate.
Kumite is the sparring component of Karate alongside Kata, which is choreographed memorized routines, and Kihon, which is the basic techniques.
I’m also willing to bet that Zac knows this because his dad is the co-founder of World Oyama Karate, and I can’t imagine your dad being renowned Kyokushin Karate master Yasuhiko Oyama and not knowing.
What I’m saying is that if Bigfoot has inspired you to become a master of Kumite, you’ll need to start by enrolling in Karate classes.
Yes!! Someone finally said it!!! The only time someone would be a “master” of kumite and not kata or kihon would be if they specifically compete in kumite at an elite level. But you can’t know kumite without the other parts of karate!

Summary:
So Rumi was moaning, her tongue in Mira’s mouth and both hands skimming Zoey’s chest, bare under her top, when all three girls heard a crash. Instantly, they whipped around, weapons out, to find Celine standing in their foyer.
Celine gives Rumi The Talk. Twice. It's twice more than either of them want.
A/N: Polytrix towards the end! (Also my Rumi & Celine The Talk fic is still cooking I got really sick and moved since starting it [ao3 author’s curse])
————————————————————————
having most of her family in Hawaii and Korea but growing up in LA really adds to the whole “couldn’t find my own place” thing
Bc Hawaii is so much more Asian than the rest of the US and I can see Zoey being being envious of her cousins who were born and raised there
Zoey sees how her cousins don’t even really think about being Korean
No one makes fun of them for liking KPop or eating Korean food at school
But they’re also so much more American
They don’t feel like they have to defend their koreanness on a daily basis, so they lean into American culture more
She doesn’t fit in with them super well because of how different her life experience has been
But they definitely try to make her feel included
But while they get where she’s coming from, they find it a little odd that she treats being Korean and American as two different things, while they embrace being Korean American
(It’s because they don’t face the same kind of racism)
There’s also two sides to Zoey because she doesn’t fully fit in in Hawaii because she’s from the mainland, but she doesn’t fit it on the mainland because she’s too Asian
Okay, fun stuff now
She’s fifth gen on her Hawaii side (second gen on the other)
Most of her cousins are hapa (mixed race)
Zoey spent a lot of her school vacations in Hawaii as a child
It’s where her love of spam comes from
She also primarily learned how to surf there (after her uncle took her to watch The Eddie one year), which led to her wanting to skate
I’m spreading the surfer Zoey agenda
She especially loved being in Hawaii for New Year’s because of the fireworks
Zoey loves fire change my mind
Her Halmeoni’s neighbor always had Roman candles (illegal) and firecrackers (less illegal)
Her parents put her in a marine biology summer camp at the Waikiki Aquarium when she was eight and she learned about honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) and the fact that they’re endangered
This sparked her love of turtles, but especially honu
She’s a big advocate for reduced coastal light pollution and single-use plastics (especially grocery bags, nets, and six-pack rings)
There’s a disproportionate number of Zoey biases in Hawaii
Because even though she’s not technically from there, she talks about how she spent a lot of time there and about her family
So she’s basically a local
(She can even speak a little pidgin and it comes out at home sometimes, which drives Rumi and Mira crazy because they barely understand Zoey’s American slang and SoCal dialect, let alone when she starts throwing out phrases like “da buggah stay broke” and “kanak attack”)
Her family members are definitely partially responsible for spreading the Zoey agenda
Being fifth generation means her family has a lot of local connections, and even the family members related by marriage tell everyone about Zoey and Huntr/x
There are definitely signed pictures of Zoey (and some of Huntr/x) in a lot of restaurants in Hawaii
Zoey introduces Mira and Rumi to local Korean food and they are confused
Because this “Zippy’s” place does not know what Korean fried chicken actually is?
And what do you mean by meat jun (and why don’t they spell it jeon)?? What type of meat? It’s marinated sliced beef? Because it looks like soegogi jeon but it tastes…sweet? Okay, wait this is kind of good
She also makes them try local and Hawaiian food generally
Mira is a big fan of loco mocos and lomi salmon
Rumi is into butter mochi and shoyu chicken
Rumi also loves maki sushi (the version from Hawaii)
(The best way I can describe it is imagine kimbap with less vegetables)
Zoey loves bingsu, but she craves the sweet, artificial taste of shave ice (with ice cream, snow cap, and mochi)
Her favorite shop has a flavor combo called “the Zoey,” which is banana, Blue Hawaii, and melona
She has to go to Hawaii at least once a year for pokè and shave ice because it’s not the same anywhere else
Also to see her Halmeoni (who has what is possibly the biggest collection of Huntr/x merch in the world)
Zoey’s entire family loves Rumi and Mira and treats them like family too
Zoey considers taking her girls to a tourist luau for funsies, but ends up getting to introduce them to Hawaiian food when one of her cousins gets married on the big island
Slightly suggestive from here
The girls short circuit when they see Zoey eat poi for the first time
Watching her dip two fingers into it and slip them into her mouth
Zoey fs makes eye contact the whole time and purposefully sucks her fingers harder than she needs to
Mind if I adopt some of these headcanons? Because one of my ocs is Polynesian and would definitely relate to Zoey?!
For context, Mariposa's ethnicity is Part Polynesian/Pacific islander, aka Hawaiian and Samoan, part Columbian, part black and part Korean. So she definitely can relate to not feeling like she belongs.

Rumi is a famous pop star and Zoey is up and coming, so they become mentor/mentee and Rumi is falling for her, but it's obviously inappropriate bcs power dynamics. Then, Mira is a rock star on the same label and pulls Zoey toward the rock sound. Mira and Rumi are famously rivals. Zoey walks in on them making out in a dressing room.
The spirit of responsible parenting possessed me and I came to halfway through writing a fic where Good Parent Celine gives Rumi The Talk.
(A little preview feat. polytrix makeout sess)
[ID: a screenshot of the words “Rumi doesn’t even want to think about what Celine walked in on. Rumi had been sitting on the couch, Mira’s lips on hers, while Zoey nipped at her neck. Their hands had roamed all over each other, dipping under hoodies and t-shirts and skimming over sweatpants. They’d figured it was safe given that Bobby and their staff took Sundays off and Celine never came to visit without advance notice.” ./. End ID]
