Rush, how would you describe Belle ? And does she help with your research?
Rush didn't exactly understand the fascination people had in bringing up Belle French..
Since the arrival aboard the Destiny, he and Belle had been at odds more often than not. She was like a mother hen fretting over him and others when she needed to worry more about her own. Her father was back on earth when she'd joined the project on a whim of sorts.
Of course he wasn't dying or anything close to what Eli faced with his own mother... but it was clear the man wasn't doing well even with the efforts of what Belle could provide being a part of the Icarus project.
Nicholas went to speak as he leaned over a panel before a faint smirk came to him. It was odd when he tried to think of Belle in that moment; instead, he thought of Gloria.
"She's a lot like you, from what I can remember of her.."
The words played in his head because it was what Gloria had said to him in the simulation.
At first he didn't understand what she meant. Almost like he'd forgotten something important, and he had. Belle had been his student once upon a time; he butted heads with her, but when she joined the Icarus Project, she was almost like a ghost.
He knew of her work, knew they'd crossed paths before, but he could never place her directly.
Not until he was in the interface chair, not until so many things he pushed out of his mind came flooding back to him.
"Belle's like an equation you can't solve; you think you've figured it out but realize something is missing... so it stays in the back of your head, lingering there to be answered."
The man's brow rose at the analogy he just described and realized it matched so much of the great answers of his life. The Ninth Chevron, Destiny's Voyage, and now Belle. All seeming to equal the same thing in his mind, an understanding of what most could never understand.
"She doesn't help in the way one might believe; no one here does... but she's not without purpose." His hand came up to rub his eyes at the very idea. "Belle could be better at some things, but without her we might not hold too long on the idea that we're not as worse off as we all know ourselves to be." He didn't know what more to say from there, Belle, was just Belle... and they were all just, lost.
