UNETHICAL BRANDS
Need motivation? A little extra anger to remind yourself why we’re doing this and who we’re fighting? Read below for a list of some of the most unethical brands in corporate america.
ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH
Abercrombie and fitch have faced many controversy.. lets dive into their main issues. “ In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids. Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely. Those companies that are in trouble are trying to target everybody: young, old, fat, skinny. But then you become totally vanilla. You don’t alienate anybody, but you don’t excite anybody, either.” -Mike Jeffrie’s brand vision for a&f. This store does not want to sell their clothes to “losers” or “fat people”. Not only do they discriminate against plus sized people, they also discriminate against latino, african-american, and asian-american candidates. This brand is NOT something we want to promote.
FOREVER 21
Dont even get me started on this brand. Forever 21 has a nice history of denying their employee’s lunch breaks and pay, they take advantage of these young people who don’t know their labor rights. It’s so bad people are calling it a sweat shop. So what does Forever 21 decide to do after these lawsuits are filed? They decided to move their product production over to Asia so that they can treat manufacturers unethically abroad instead. Not only do they purchase cotton from child labor factories, there are reports that they pay workers $0.12 for every article of clothing they sew. What. The. Fuck. I wont even begin to dive into the number of times theyve went around copywrite claims and ripped off other brands. WHY ARE WE SUPPORTING THESE PEOPLE? STOP. SPENDING. MONEY. HERE.
Fruit of the Loom
For those of you that shop at walmart.. I advise you against this brand and to be careful when buying from them. They tell you that you can return items. What you dont know is that this company has 2 return policies. The one they show you (that says you can return items for full refund) and the hidden one that they respect. This company will only except NO RETURNS despite what their policy says. Business practice here is UNETHICAL and wrong.
GAP, Inc
Gap is horrible to their workers. Raising the minimum age standard, but giving absolutely no benefits to their employees. On top of this, they are still condoning in child labor
L’oreal
This beauty company tests on animals despite their public statements about it. It is also known for fighting against a EU ban on animal testing for cosmetics. They’re part owned by nestle (we hate them) and have nanoparticles in most their products oop. More brief list follows cause I got lazy
Estee Lauder
-animal testing -nanoparticles in costmetics
Nestlé
-workers rights vilations -Water grab in north america -pollution
