a monologue worthy of a capulet. but caleb strongly concurred. “i’m sorry, have i bored you?” he inquired, a childish laugh pulling his lips into a beam and crinkling his eyes into a notably dewy squint. they were shiny. gleaming and red wrung. though it was nothing knew, the leo leant forward on the table to unintentionally grant shiloh a closer look.
Laughing, he shot back, “Noo, but you are---” stopping dead in the middle of the sentence, Shiloh had glanced up from the menu to be greeted by none other than a closer-in-diameter Caleb in his face. Placing the menu back slowly on the table, he cleared his throat. “Uh, hello. . .” he spoke, tone stained with uncomfortableness. Leaning back slightly with his eyebrows now furrowed, he gave an awkward close-lip smile. With a quick once over at the other boy, his attention had taken notice that his eyes were red and shiny. Suddenly awkwardness turned into concern and now worry. Had he been crying this entire time without his notice? Quickly rectifying his guilt at being a terrible observer, Shiloh reached over to grab a napkin from the table, gesturing for Caleb to take it. Piercing blue eyes lased with worry, stared straight into the other’s and leant a bit forward to whisper softly, “Is everything okay?”
“oh, i wouldn’t. public bathrooms disgust me — ay!” shiloh’s palm had escaped unscathed by the time caleb was reaching up to bat it away. as if the sandy beige mess was not so taken care of as to just fall back into place. his thumb flicked back to the app that had been keeping him preoccupied, ears still in tune with the conversation though his eyes had clearly wandered off. “you’re late for your gym date.” he noted slyly.
“Oh please.” He pressed, as a scoff and a playful eye roll went along with it. “It was only ten extra minutes gone over. Besides, I was seated right there, in case the last several minutes or so have gone completely over your head.” As he was talking, he had taken notice that other boy’s attention had wandered off back to his phone screen, and now an idea was forming inside his head. Suddenly adhering to not wanting to sound suspicious, Shiloh subtlety changed the topic. “You know Caleb, they say that high cellphone usage is linked to less physical activity in the youth today. They may even say that people who are constantly on their phones aren’t capable to keep up with their fitness. Interesting, right?” A question asked not at all looking for a response, he continued on. “In fact, I kind of want to test out this theory for myself…” Trailing off the sentence, all the while moving slowly and inching towards the male a bit each time. Once he was basically in close contact, he quickly reached his hand down and pried the cellphone out of the young man’s hands. Now running fast as his legs could take him, he yelled back, “C’mon little guinea pig, let’s see if you can prove this theory invalid!” All the while laughing hysterically as he kept running, waving the phone in the air. “See you at the gym, my little date!”
“… and now everyone’s got baby fever.” with a bewitching smirk, caleb held eye contact with the hysterical infant insisting on a fraction of her mother’s croissant across the café. honestly, wasn’t there a curfew or something? had he been the one stomping his feet and demanding a baked good at the top of his lungs, surely someone would intervene. “we’re not staying here all night, are we?”
A ROLL OF HIS EYES. “Why can’t we? We just arrived not so long ago. Plus there’s rumors of said fireknife dancers doing a performance later on tonight. If anything, we have to see that at very least!” He pressed, his tone jovial and clear blue eyes round with excitement. Three year living in Maui, yet this island surprises him everyday it seemed. Quickly scanning over the menu, he casually remarked without glancing up, “You’ll never experience life if you’re not living it, you know.”
it was so strong that it decided to b u r n through his fingers rather than the inside of his throat. a cool clear liquid that he opted for in lieu of water. what faded into a low hum extended over the scene as lights flashed over his sullen expression over and over again. typically he’d be there to have a good time. to exchange white bars for a dime of happiness. instead he was there to OBSERVE, he liked doing that. but as hypocritical as he was, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the person whose eyes locked with his’. “y’know it’s RUDE to stare.” his voice went down, clearing the air to point out that it wasn’t a question. more like an accusation. and then there it was, that flash of a smirk that dawned his face so casually. “you know pictures last longer, yeah?”
THE INTERRUPTION OF A VOICE brought him back to subconsciousness and to the reality he was in. With a slight shake of his head, he began to apologize. “You’re right. I must have dosed off into a daydream at some point and hadn’t taken into account the possibility of my staring. Please pardon my rudeness.” Piercing blue eyes properly did a once over at the male sitting across from him and graced him with a tiny closed-mouth smile. “If it makes it all the better though, I am a photographer who wouldn’t mind capturing a moment as awkward such as this.” He joked, hoping to lighten the air with a bit of clumsy humor.
“no, no. that’s okay. i think my subconscious took over and just blacked out the entire thing.” it was all in good fun. though caleb had always prefered to occupy the spotlight as sole proprietor, the phone call back home had made time for a task of equal importance to the deadlift he’d taken the first opportunity to abandon. swiping away from his instagram feed, the teenager lifted his gaze to the man a few feet away. “if i lock myself in a bathroom stall will you pay attention to me?”
A SMALL TURN OF THE CORNER OF HIS LIPS led the man to let out a soft chuckle. “Now, now Caleb no need to get nasty. There’s plenty of my attention to go around to feed your whole ego twice as much.” The older male slightly teased, only holding half truths to his statement. What was more was that the younger male did indeed like the regard and so Shiloh made note do as such. Getting up from the chair, he stretched a bit before walking toward the other table. “Besides, my only attention at that point would be how on earth you managed to stoop so low as to lock yourself in a cubicle in the first place. . .” With a shake of his head, he glanced down at the boy with a sheepish smile to gently ruffle his hair a bit.
“---AND THEN, get a load of this. The most strangest thing happened to me while using the loo about twenty or so minutes ago. . .” the boy paused in breath, anticipation nibbling at the tip of his tongue while he spoke at a medium volume on the phone. “. . .accidentally made eye contact with the person through the cubicle beside me in the door crack and---” his sentence once again paused, but this time in disruption of cackling laughter on the other end of the phone. He couldn’t help but quietly chuckle himself before continuing, “That’s not even the worse part, mind you. I didn’t know what to do, so I blew him a kiss instead.” That gained more rapturous laughter from the end of the line, in which case he had to pull the phone away from his ear long enough to avoid a hearing loss situation. Putting the cellphone back up to his eardrum, he could still hear the remnants of his older brother’s laughter dying down and the teasing joke of ‘only funny shit like that happens to someone as dull as you’. Couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he also teasingly fired back, “Oh piss off, you wank. You’re only saying that because I’m actually having fun while you’re stuck in the gloom and doom.” His brother grumbled something unintelligible while calling him a git, but laughed in the process. Glancing down at his watch, he quickly realized he would be a bit late for his gym time. “Listen, sorry to run off so soon but I have to get to the gym before noon. Tell mum and dad I give them my best and that I shall speak with them as soon as I’m able. Have a goodnight, King, I miss you.” With that, he ended the call with a sigh and glanced over to see a person sitting a seat away from his table. Curious, he leaned over slightly and whispered, “If by chance you heard any of that, in my defense, I was at a loss. Besides, I probably wasn’t their type anyhow, so their loss more than likely.” He joked, almost turning red at the thought of somehow meeting his soulmate in a toilet.

DISCLAIMER: death and alcoholism mentions.
Shiloh Alexander Davenport was born in the early hours of Spring in Birmingham, England to Duchess Renee and Duke Thomas of Devonshire, as well as a brother for the young Kingsley. His arrival was much-anticipated and there were celebrations for days prior to his introduction to the world. With his childhood consisting nothing more than love and devotion from his parents, Shiloh had nothing to complain about. His parents loved their children dearly, especially Shiloh, whose pure heart and open-mindedness they helped to cultivate: they encouraged Shiloh’s belief in extraordinary things and hoped he had carried it throughout his life growing up. His parents had always made him promise to have courage and be kind to others, for—as they explained to him—kindness has power, and that they would see him through all the trials that life could offer, in life and death. His relationship with his brother, however, is a bit estranged. As much as he loves his elder brother and wished they could see eye-to-eye, sometimes they tend to butt heads often. Whether that might mean your typical sibling arguments or full-on blown out fights, they just can’t seem to see get along.
When he was only two-week-old, Shiloh and his family moved back to their home in Devon, England; his father, who held a high position in nobility there, was a Duke - which, gave him the title of Lord. Growing up, he never really minded being referred to as Lord Shiloh, but sometimes because of his title, a lot of the children in his hometown would make fun of him for being a boring ‘wannabe royal’. And as time went on, he started to regret his father’s position and so, as he aged, he swore to himself that he would never introduced himself as anything other than Shiloh and that was that.
Most people would describe Shiloh as The Benevolent. Despite being in a world where there’s hatred and suffering, Shiloh declares himself independent and strong-willed by remaining kind-hearted and self-loving, not allowing the bitterness surrounding his life to overtake him and morph him into someone as cruel as the world seems to be every day. He makes the most of his life by remaining optimistic of the possibilities of a brighter future. But besides that, he’s also witty and sarcastic. He is unafraid to stand up for himself when he feels he’s in the right–or at least, attempt to do so. And although he strives to contain his optimism aura, he can fall into fits of frustration and annoyance quite often.
Eventually in his early teens to adulthood, he became distracted, always preoccupied with his own affairs and matters of interest; piano and art being two of them. He strongly believes art is an umbrella term that relates to expressing oneself – not just through painting and piano– and that everyone should have the freedom to express themselves however they please. Because of his beliefs, he chooses to break gender roles like break and wears whatever the hell he wants. He can also be a sassy and stubborn so and so at times because he believes what he believes and doesn’t take people’s crap if he feels threatened by someone. Although he can be sassy, he’s generally super friendly and loves to make new friends wherever he can and has a tranquil personality. He’s also capable of enduring tremendous hardship. Though he may not handle difficulty in the healthiest way, often repressing emotions, he often emerges on the other side. He doesn’t know how to express his feeling in a diplomatic way, but rather fumbles it all up and starts to ramble – rarely opens about them because of that.
At the tender age of twelve, Shiloh was destined to be married through an arranged marriage to the only daughter of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Francesca Renaldo, and the two were meant to wed at the age of eighteen. Francesca and Shiloh were both from nobility in their respective towns and had grown up together. Throughout the years as they’ve aged, both had grown to care less and less about the titles that they might one day have to abide by. Instead, they had taken advantage of their semi-freedom and laughed about the big shots they hung out with and sometimes, they would have McDonalds “friend dates”. Other times, without permission, would go thrift shopping and then considerably donate to charities because they just didn’t care about money as long as they had each other.
Shiloh had grown to love Francesca, and Francesca had grown to love Shiloh – which was all the better considering it was an arranged marriage and the two had fallen in love naturally. But it didn’t even matter whether it was an arranged marriage or not, because they were both lost in blissful ignorance and they made each other so happy. Everyone from a mile away could see it in their eyes how much they loved each other – and the happiness they shared was bestowed upon them by the other half. Things between the two were absolute bliss and they were somehow always caught flirting during fancy dinner parties, and then occasionally sneak away while everyone bores themselves with business talk and petty gossip to wander around on the beach wearing a tux and an evening gown.
DEATH and ALCOHOLISM TW: To the two teens, their ever-growing budding romance was almost like a fairytale come to life, but with reality, not everyone can have a happily ever after. Two years before they were meant to be married, tragedy struck the hearts of the Renaldo household when their daughter had been in the crossfire of a terrible car accident on her way back to her home. The crash was so intense, Francesca unfortunately died instantaneous. When news of what had happened came to light, everyone was in utter mourning. The death of Francesca was hard on the citizens who had adored her in every aspect of her life, but moreover, her mother took it the hardest. Since the death of her daughter, she had begun drinking excessively to the point where she died from alcohol poisoning three months after. On the other hand, her father tried his hardest to be the leader he was for the sake of the people, but even he broke down a few times.
As for Shiloh, he was heartbroken and devastated. Upon hearing the news of what seemed to be a nightmare, the young boy at the time never looked at love the same way again. For a moment, he seemed to have lost hope of truly being happy. He even lost his love for the piano at one point because it reminded him of something beautiful missing from his life. But as time went on, he realized that not living his best life isn’t something Francesca or his parents would have wanted for him. He remembered time again that Francesca wanted him to be happy and successful in his years to come. She told him that even if life throws a curve-ball, he must be prepared to swing for a home run. So, of course, he took what he was told to heart and continued living life to the fullest.
When Shiloh turned eighteen, he decided he wanted to continue his studies and go to university in America. His life and responsibilities in England weren’t over, but knew he wanted to have change of scenery and start a fresh beginning. He loved to travel and in his days traveling alongside his father for years, he wanted to expand his experiences more. His parents, of course, were hesitant about allowing him to leave country, but as time went on, they couldn’t help but allow him to travel to America for his continued studies only, with one condition: he must travel with a bodyguard. This condition was something Shiloh would abide by, but it also made his life difficult every time someone suspiciously asked who the creepy-looking guy following him around everywhere was. So, with that, he packed his bags and ended up going to the other side of the globe to New York to study double major and minor in Photography, Illustration, Music, and Psychology at NYU. He has since graduated and has spent three years in Maui, Hawaii trying to figure out what do next in his life. He has yet to look back.
