also @bree-3po you’re right about gianna bc i just watched a recent video of her choreography and it is…. the most basic comp contemporary nonsense i’ve seen since… well, since dance moms lol

if i knew the correct terminology i could’ve verbally predicted every move. unfortunately my dance knowledge has faded to almost nothing

For what it’s worth I don’t think you need a ton of dance knowledge to know what is just whack and/or uninspired. Gia’s choreography would never get her a job outside of her two-bit home studio. But because she was on this show, she’s gotten to teach at conventions and big ticket master classes. It’s so ridiculous how shallow the dance world is.

Unpopular Opinion: I like Gianna’s choreography and I thought she was an unsung hero in the success of the show. Week after week she took whatever theme given to her and created choreography for each solo, small group, and group performance. Do you know how much weight that was on her shoulders? She had to create choreography that the girls could memorize and execute in a very short period of time and yet the choreography had to be entertaining and make the audience think that they were watching elite young dancers. She dealt with lots of tough obstacles like cheap bad uninspiring music and Abby. Fans watched those performances over and over again. Season after season she was the main choreographer and the world fell in love with their dancing. Beyond doing the choreography she was the teacher that worked the most with the girl’s every year and they all made huge improvements despite spending over 40 hours a week filming the show. She’s not an elite choreographer (just as the girl’s were not elite dancers) but for years she delivered a commercial product under harsh circumstances on the big stage. I bet the other choreographers that are employed by the conventions don’t have anything close to the success she has on her resume. Besides, the girls, Abby, and the DMs all got opportunities and pay days from the show so why shouldn’t she?

Completely agree, Gianna might not be the greatest choreographer of all time but she did a great job within the context of her work, week after week for roughly 6 years of filming

i have always found it so funny how in “stealing the show” christi was supposedly mad about maddie having two solos however if you look in the back of maddie’s backstage interview you see chloe running her ‘baby mine’ solo despite supposedly only competing ‘mother’. i have always wondered what that all just christi screaming for some airtime or was the fight about something else and they edited it to look a certain way.

hmm. I’d have to go back and watch clips or something cause I haven’t noticed that. the dance moms wiki lists the unaired dances from that episode and “baby mine” isn’t included. there were 3 unaired group dances and an unaired claddie duet.

if chloe did have a second solo, then I guess it would’ve been one of those fights that the producers provoke. the moms have talked about how the producers will dredge up old fights to get the moms upset, and then tell them what they should be arguing about and let them go off. but I really think this particular fight was real, because the wiki is pretty good at listing the correct unaired dances. plus this was when dm was still going to fairly reputable competitions, and not sheer talent, so the results aren’t as fudged.

I believe the backstage interview of Maddie was filmed at second competition which was shown in episode 2, where Maddie competed cry and Chloe competed Baby Mine. It was just one of those cases where the producers pulled clips from previous weeks to use.

Also you really shouldn't be teaching students to wing their foot especially when it's weight bearing. But it's no secret that Abby doesn't know what she's talking about.

I still do not and will NEVER understand why anybody at all - Abby, the producers, the moms - thought that not only putting Kalani in an actual bra but then filming her dancing in it and airing for millions to see was acceptable?

Watching Kenzie perform contemporary on DWTS junior shows that she was really never challenged with ALDC.

She was outstanding. She had so much emotion but not extreme. Having a mentor that cares about her and encourages her, paired with her sister not being there has allowed her to thrive dance-wise!
