Still reading the book, and he is my favorite character so far.

Thinking about samfro seeing the other as the sun and themselves as the moon no matter which POV it is because it's such a similar and yet such a different thought process for both of them.

Sam thinks of Frodo as his reason, the one for whom he is ready to go through all this way. He is merely the moon reflecting the sun's light, and without it he would have no purpose to be. No light to follow. He sees himself as a reflection of Frodo's shine, even when his shine is dim, it's still here, and without the sun the moon doesn't shine in the sky the same Sam wouldn't follow anyone but Frodo, wouldn't go for any path if Frodo didn't.

Frodo thinks of Sam as the sun of hope. The sunshine on the hills of the Shire, the shine that keeps him going and shows him the way even when it's dark. Sam is the sun of light and unbreakable light, and Frodo is the Moon — bleak, dull and engulfed by darkness everywhere around it, with only the sun's light protecting him from falling into it fully. The moon wouldn't be able to shine without the sun, just as Frodo wouldn't go far without Sam.

frodo cannot sleep. neither can sam.

a finger that is no more is burning as his palm presses into his shoulder. the wound is closed, it has been for some time, and one could almost miss it.

for frodo it is like he’s getting stabbed anew. he does not cry. he is not sure he is able to. he is sure it would not help.

sam holds him. he has no other way of helping, only being there and whispering songs to frodo. some are elvish. some are not.

frodo answers by tightening his hand on sam’s forearm.
