Waiting Period

Letting out a breath of relief, Chang’e relaxed immediately due to knowing she was not late yet; it would be a shame to be late from the summon. However upon hearing that there had been others that had not stayed made her question the hierarchy in the place.

“How odd. Are you not expected to arrive when summoned?” As a new Servant the matter of most importance was to be respectful towards her Master. “I would gladly join you for tea in the meanwhile.”

“This facility lacks order. Our master isn’t a very organised person. It would seem that they had recently lost a key figure in their hierarchy and are still recovering from a major battle.”

The taller man explains as he delicately handles the tea preparation. Soon enough, the water was brought to a boil and he had started to pour the moon goddess a cup.

“There you go.”

He looks up to her, straight into her eyes with his own demonic, and stern gaze.

“I should have introduced myself first. Hijikata Toshizou of the Shinsengumi. You may address me however you wish on the condition that you give me your name.”

Sublime. Their swordplay was simply sublime. Rarely a foot nor hair out of place. Truly a dance only two with the very hearts of their swords intertwined with their own could pull off! Musashi flowing around Kojiro’s strike only him to sprung up with a geyser with a sudden upward slash! Bamboo moving so fast they might as well be flickers of silver upon a strong wind so brief, so swift were the strikes. Even with such fierce plays from both sides…they bowed politely to one another. All blows forgotten the instance their bout was over.

…If only all could have been like that. Leaving the hall Okita had to convince an angered Hercules to release Cu and Gil from his crushing arms. The two on one scenario they all wanted to run was not working at all…Berserker easily taking out his opponents with little to no effort. Teamwork was a foreign word to those two. Once again. Saber caught up to her Vice Chief. Bowing in apology.

“Gomen. There was an urgent matter between our comrades I had to attend to!” The Samurai straightened herself easily. “I’ll follow your lead Hijikata san!”

“Good work on defusing the situation without the need to draw your sword, Captain Okita. I commend you for your efforts.”

More praise from the Vice-Chief. He seemed to be in a good mood today. With an affirmative nod, he continues on forward to claim his precious takuan for the day at the mess hall with the 1st Division captain close behind him. They had always been like this in the prime days of the Shinsengumi. Perhaps it was because he felt nostalgic of the better times in the history of Shinsengumi? Regardless, he was glad to have one of his precious captains back once again. Especially since Okita was someone who was near and dear to him. She was family.

“I’ve not tasted the takuan of this lady Kiyohime. Are they any good?”

Though he wasn’t too particular on it as long as they weren’t absolutely revolting.

Mini Cu closed his eyes once he felt the gentle hand on top of his head. He liked being petted so he unconsciously wagged his tail from one side to the other and went on his tiptoes when he felt the hand pulling away from him. The little doll puffed his cheeks, a little upset that the pat hadn’t lasted long but, it had been a good pat nonetheless so he wasn’t going to complain.

He looked around in search of someone smaller to share his little umbrella with but he found no one. After thinking for a short while, Mini Cu began to climb the other servant until he reached the top of his head. “But it will be easier if your sight doesn’t get blurry due to the rain, right?” Also, it would be dangerous for him if he fell on the water and soaked all of his cotton, so he would like to take a free ride for now. He accommodated on the servant’s head, wrapping his tail around his body, and making himself look like a cinnamon roll, and around Hijikata’s head. He looked like a fancy hat!

Once he was sure he wouldn’t fall off, Mini Cu opened the tiny umbrella. It somehow managed to cover himself and the other servant’s head. His shoulders would get wet but at least he wouldn’t have to worry about his sight. “Let’s get moving, master might be waiting right?”

His expression was unchanged as the small plush servant climbed on top of him.

“Good thinking. Now vision will be much clearer.”

Practicality above all else for this demonic Vice-Chief. He looked around for any potential threats, doing the final checks for their little scouting side-mission.

“Yes, let us report back to the rest of the group.”

Okita could not help the small smile that came to her features momentarily. Praise for her Vice-Chief was not praise so easily handed out.

As they drew closer to the training room Saber wasn’t surprised at the constant clacking of Bokkens or forms of yelling. She did not know a single one among them that did not take such things seriously - especially among the few she considered Samurai. Yes, Saber knew those strokes before the two had even passed through the doors into the hall Musashi versus Kojiro. The two took no notice of them as their fierce sparring intensified…Okita was certain if she interfered they would easily settle the matter around her so vast was their skills. Keeping up with either was difficult even for a genius swordsman like her their swordplay had an otherworldly grace about it, at times even tricking the mind into thinking they struck several times all at once.

Okita had vast respect for both. They we-wait…was Hijikata…was he gawking at Musashi? Saber quickly double checked that assessment…yup…he totally was! Mentally the Samurai chuckled but it would never betray her. Mushi was far too used to it by now.

“Fushigina is it not?” The two duelist locked swords before halting, Kojiro had scored, smiling at one another the two backed up resetting the match. Again the Bokken cracked together Musashi taking the point in four moves. “Even I have difficulty keeping up with their swordplay.”

…Okita was still in fact sore from the last time she and Musashi sparred.

“They’re in perfect condition. I’d like to spar with them but... being a Berserker has caused my skill with the sword to degrade quite a bit.”

The Vice-Chief’s eyes hadn’t left the female dual swordsman. He was... enamored, to say the least. Not by her swordplay. Rather, a different pair had his attention.

“Hm. Fantastic.”

And with that, he had his fill. There was no way he would get in between someone’s spar. Even if he had long abandoned purely being a swordsman, he still had respect for the art. He turns around, his coat fluttering behind him.

“Let’s move on, Okita.”

Bushido. There was a time where he once followed it, and lived using that very code. However, as time passed, and the age of samurai was coming to an end, he eventually realised that ‘the age of swords is over’. And thus, there was no longer a need for Bushido. He had already dedicated his life to the Shinsengumi... and so, that was the only thing he would follow. Even all the way to his death. Though, bushido closely influenced the Shinsengumi code as it also talked about loyalty and honour. Only, traditional samurai served lords. But the Shisnengumi were a group of Ronins, and thus, had no lords. Therefore, their loyalty was only towards the Shinsengumi. Bushido had no place in his life anyway. Hijikata wasn’t born a samurai. He, and Kondo Isami were both of the common man. His ‘bushido’ was only a gate way to creating the iron-clad rules of the Shinsengumi.

"Need an umbrella?" Of course Mini Cu-chan's umbrella was too tiny to share with Hijikata but, if he stood on top of his head, maybe he could cover the other a bit from the rain.

“Hoh?”

The taller man knelt down to about as low as he could go without looking unprofessional.

“That would be appreciated.”

The plush version of the Altered Cu Chullain reminded him of the chibi Nobus that made up his Shinsengumi during the Bakumatsu singularity. And so, he developed a bit of a soft spot for tiny creatures.

“Though, I don’t quite think that Umbrella would cover us both. Keep it to yourself. Or share it with someone smaller. Carrying an umbrella wouldn’t allow me to draw my weapons quickly anyway.”

Instead, he had the sudden urge to simply pat the tiny creature. And that, he did. Not with his Berserker-like strength, but with uncharacteristically gentle hands.

[Since I have the alcohol tolerance equivalent to that of an unborn child, I cannot think straight + tests and assignments have drained the shit out of me.
