POCD is a subtype of OCD characterized as persistent and upsetting intrusive thoughts and obsessions over the fear of being a pedophile or becoming a pedophile. These intrusive thoughts are unwanted and people with POCD are not actual pedophiles. I cannot stress this enough. If you don’t know how intrusive thoughts work, or how OCD works, then this might seem strange or confusing, but I’ll do my best to explain!

Intrusive Thoughts are uncontrollable and upsetting thoughts that cause some level of distress to the person who experiences them. They can be anything from violent (either to themselves or others around them), to sexual, to generally upsetting, like destroying something they love (like a stuffed animal or phone). OCD has many symptoms, one of them is frequent intrusive thoughts, usually themed around an “Obsession” or a “Compulsion”, and you can probably tell where I’m going with this so I won’t repeat myself much more since I don’t think it’s necessary.

TL;DR: POCD = distressing and unfounded fears of being a pedophile and is a kind of OCD that many people deal with.
