padmé feels the girlish giggles bubble up again at obi - wan’s question , and the way his smile cracks the perfect skin around his cheeks with joyful wrinkles. she doesn’t see enough of this smile nowadays. “ i don’t remember , ” she says breathlessly through her laughter. it fizzles out eventually , and she turns her head to look at him. “ i don’t want to get up yet. ”

It must have been lonely, Sola thought, to be a senator. With no one but your aids and security detail for company.

“Ryoo and Pooja are taking a nap, I’ll go wake them after we set the table.”

padmé’s smile is as bright as the sun , her heart feeling far lighter now than it had in a very long time. only anakin ever gave her that feeling anymore. she wishes so deeply he could be here , wishes she could tell her family the secrets she’s holding. they’d be worried , but happy for her.

this is the life she wants , the one she might never truly have with him.

it never ends. padmé doesn’t blame bellamy ; the base urge to retaliate is difficult to overcome ━━━━ but they must. otherwise , they’ll only end up destroying each other. ❝ you know the grounders better than we do. while i don’t agree with your methods all the time bellamy , i do still respect you. i can’t imagine anyone wants to spend all of this time fighting and at war. ❞

SHE NODS ; it’s the answer padmé naturally expects. folding into anakin’s side is much easier than bringing up her current concerns ; she enjoys the warmth of him , and her lips curve up into a smile despite herself.

❝ the senate has been busy , ❞ she says , though she knows it’s nothing anakin isn’t already aware of. this , her apartment , is their space away from it all . . . momentarily , padmé wonders how many pieces of herself she must break into. anakin , she thinks , has the truest piece ; the piece that is just padmé , his wife. ❝ anakin , there’s so many things we can’t tell each other. i . . . just want you to know that i love you. ❞

THOUGH SHE TRIES TO keep her composure , padmé feels the breath in her throat catch as she squeezes sabé in return. all the tears , all of the emotions she’d been holding back come spilling forth , and for several moments she finds herself unable to speak. when she does , her voice is weak. ❝ n - no , it’s okay . . . thank you , sabé . . . ❞
