Thorin lying next to Bilbo in bed and holding him and comforting him and telling him it was just a nightmare because Bilbo just woke up after dreaming about the battle and how Thorin and Fíli and Kíli died and they spend a happy morning in bed warm and alive and Bilbo is so happy and then he wakes up and it turns out that was the dream and he's alone in Bag End and they're dead and now he has to face the day after that.

when you’re drastically wounded from a dramatic battle for your homeland (which you survived thankfully) and can’t do your hair because it would upset your wounds so it gets all gooky and tangled but anyone else who could do it for you is either likewise incapacitated or hundreds of miles away so the cute burglar who you have feelings for (and almost killed but it’s ok now) steps up to the task and it’s very intimate and tender but you are emotionally constipated so all you do is sit there and pine
