something i think about a lot is that Aang implicitly has the nastiest temper of all the main cast, and he goes to a lot of work to control it

like, it’s not like Zuko or Katara, who both get explosively angry and then simmer down after an initial eruption. Aang puts a LOT of work into staying calm and steady, and when HE gets angry, buildings disappear. tornados erupt.

additionally, we’ve seen that he can get genuinely very nasty when he’s REALLY pissed off; like one of the biggest hurdles in the episode in the desert is that Aang spends the entire episode erupting until he finally collapses from stress and grief

so, he knows this is a bad thing. he puts a lot of work into controlling his temper and being mindful of his anger

so much of his character is about control and restraint, and at the same time being free and loving fun, and he has to work to be kind. he’s afraid of his own temper and he tries to constrain it and keep it from causing problems

the last thing you want is Aang acting on his rage, and making a hurricane every time he gets annoyed

This is honestly one thing that I really admire about Aang. He’s not happy and cheerful because hurr-durr he’s a monk and therefore doesn’t understand true anger, durr-hurr. But because he does understand true rage, he also understands how destructive it can be. He is the angriest out of the whole group, and honestly the one with the most to be angry about. But he is also the calmest, he tries to cope with his rage rather than just explode at every little thing like Zuko and Katara do. But it’s hard, and it shows.

It’s also pretty cool how he’s the most restrained yet also the most free. After all, it takes freedom to master air. Aang is too good for this world, I swear we don’t deserve him.
