Kaneki spotted the bright-hair from across the street, through the crowds of black and white. It was striking, like the sun. His first emotion was joy, he wanted to bound over, tap him on the shoulder and greet him like he always had done. But things were not the same. He was not a normal man anymore... Would Hide even recognize him? Would want to be associated with him? After all he hadn’t been in contact for so long.

Either way, melancholy settled in. Even if Hide was fully accepting, it couldn’t happen. Their friendship was dangerous. It was the last thing Kaneki ever wanted...but it was all he had left. He kept his head down, hoping Hide was too involved in his own world to notice. Even so, he closed his book and put it away in his side-satchel, preparing to leave swiftly.

He wasn’t entirely sure how to approach the situation... He had been away from Anteiku for a long time without so much as a goodbye. Last time he and Touka met again, she was understandably angry... For the longest time he thought keeping people far away from him would keep them from harm...but he learned the hard way that it doesn’t matter the distance...pain will hit everyone he ever cared about... He found little point in keeping himself from his friends any longer. He had missed them so...

“I can understand if you want me to leave...” He muttered as Touka opened the door.
