Courtney Brims grew up in the outskirts of Brisbane drawing pink unicorns and prehistoric birds, collecting dead beetles and making costumes.

‘I remember when I was seven waking up one day and deciding I was going to be an elephant. So I made a paper trunk and ears, put on a pink cape and stomped around all day pretending I was an elephant.’

‘I really wanted to be Indiana Jones’s sidekick or a back-up singer for David Bowie… But I ended up an illustrator because no one else is going to draw the weird things I dream up.’Graduating from Queensland University of Technology with a degree in Interior Design Courtney turned her drawing arm to full time art and illustration in 2008.Influenced by the theatricality of vaudeville circus and storytellers of olde such as Beatrix Potter, Tim Burton, The Grimm Brothers, Lewis Carroll and Walt Disney, Courtney pays homage to the odd, the bizarre and the eccentric.

Her graphite pencil drawings depict a sweet and sour wonderland of stray creatures and lost damsels and explore the world of reality and fantasy most of us left behind in childhood.
