"Want to see the flowers I found?" Ravage has been hard at work since they arrived, helping Shockwave set up the planetary defences, and now that Esmeral and her coven are here, she's been working all the harder...but she couldn't resist the scent that blew over the camp site that morning.
Shockwave doesn't quite startle, turning his helm toward Ravage and blue optic resetting, before audial fins perk slightly. "I'd love to see flowers." The yellow mech informs her, and makes an effort to focus his field, display all the joy and relief he's been feeling since they arrived.
He's been overhead, on the Victory, until just this morning, helping Starscream coordinate planetary defenses and shore up the natural shielding from their end.
But here he is, now, on the ground. And... And there's so much he's feeling, but for once, he's not actually scared.
Their families are safe here. They are home.
".... I want to see the flowers." He repeats.
"I heard, I just felt you settling and let you finish." She takes his single hand and tugs him toward a stand of trees. The planet is suitable for both organic and mechanoid peoples, which is fortunate because the humans' system was only mostly destroyed by the last Autobot onslaught.
The smell is sweet, like Glit's homebrewed energon wine, and even Shockwave smells them before they get there. Several of the larger trees support multiple flowering vines in shades of purple and blue and deep pink.
"Can you scan them? Are they safe to touch? I'd like to distill that scent for personal use but I need to know if it's safe to wear, especially since Soundwave's getting along in his carriage and soon we'll have our emberling..."
Shockwave lets her guide him, optic brightening and his good hand giving hers a gentle squeeze. "I'm doing a scan right now." He informs her. "This planet so far does not seem to host metallivores or metal-eating bacterium." He tells her. "I'll have to run a deeper scan with a dedicated probe, but it seems to be safe." He vents.
A pause. "I will take one, and hold it first, if you want one right now. I will not risk you or Soundwave or the embarking."
"I can wait until you're absolutely sure," says Ravage. "That's why I asked. Nobody's willing to risk you either. You're our brother, you're our chief scientist who's helping us keep our new home safe, and our emberling is looking forward to learning things from you too! There are no acceptable losses, Shockwave!"
She slips up under his arm to give him a side-hug. "Thank you but I want you to always be careful too. Soundwave and Megatron and I and the emberling and all of the rest of my family need you."
Shockwave hugs back, carefully but no less affectionate for it. "I am so happy for the both of you." He murmurs, and his voice wobbles just a little. "And... And for the emberling. And for that we have a new home, a safe place for all of us."
Home.

Send "🔄" to meet a younger version of my muse!!
He's standing in front of a convenient mirror, blue optic bright and happy as he's admiring the whorls of color painted onto cheery plating, flowers and stars and even a few stick figures.
He loves it.
"You're still wearing it!" Ravage grins as she passes him. "I thought you were being very sweet to indulge me and Laserbeak, Shockwave. You do look very cute though, if I do say so myself!" They did have great fun decorating him like that. In preparation for the emberling, Ravage is remembering all the things she liked to do when she was an emberling and trying them out again so she'll be ready--emberlings come out practically shapeless, but they get big and learn to do simple things fast.
The sunny yellow of his plate just cries out for the kinds of daytime flowers she can only see with her nictating membranes engaged and sometimes a visor. And Laserbeak decided to draw their entire family. (She wanted to draw the emberlings too, but Soundwave's is still a secret for now and Glit desperately wants to make sure there's nothing amiss with Howlback's before they all get attached to the idea; she got surprise-sparked consensually, but it still happened on that Autobot warship.)
Shockwave can usually be relied on to indulge playfulness, though; he's going to be adorable with the emberling. (So is Overlord--she looks forward to telling him.)
"I love it." Shockwave informs her, solemnly. "I like when others are happy. And I like these drawings. Flowers are lovely, and look-- this one is Soundwave, and you're here, and Laserbeak is there, and... All of you. I'm keeping you close to me." His field is happy and fairly glowing with it.
Ravage hugs him. "We love you so so much, you know," she says. "And we always will."
Ravage may not be able to stand bright light in the physical world, but her field is a very bright light of another kind entirely. She worries a lot, because their homeworld's been taken over by howling god-mad killers who want to destroy everything, including Mother Night who brings shadows and safety and rest; but she's a genuinely happy person, as a rule, as long as everyone she cares about is safe and close. "I'm just glad everyone's home. And, you know, that we have a home, now, or will soon."
Shockwave hugs her back, all affection and adoration and loyalty. He loves his brother. How could he not love his brother's family? "Love everyone right back." He affirms. "I'm so glad... So glad we'll finally have places of our own. Safe and protected and defense."
"I was so sorry for what they did, and you'll never know how glad I am that you don't blame me for bringing it all down on you," says Ravage, not for the first time. "I know it would have happened anyway. But it wasn't just that we needed to be together. It was also that they wanted to do the same thing to Soundwave that they did to Optronix, and later to Hot Rod. I didn't know that then. But you did, didn't you?"
She shrugs. "Finally we'll have our own world. And we will weave a shield for it they can't get through. Tara will help me--I'll bring the shadows and she'll bring the silk."
What Ravage does isn't science, but the effects can be measured by scientific instruments. What Tarantulas does is mostly science.
Mostly.
"It hurt." Shockwave told her. "They were angry. But we're finally going to be some place where they won't find us. Where their anger won't reach. Where we can belong."
A pause.
"... I wouldn't change anything, if it meant changing this."
He's standing in front of a convenient mirror, blue optic bright and happy as he's admiring the whorls of color painted onto cheery plating, flowers and stars and even a few stick figures.

No. Shockwave responds flatly.

Sir Soundwave | kytherion
::Hey bro, Starscream wants to show you some readings we just got back from the big boss, do you think I could have my conjunx back? We're supposed to be holding this fort down together, maybe you two should come up to the bridge and we can keep all of each other company.::
::Love you.::
::I know you're not used to the shields-free life like I am but sometimes the distraction of everyone else helps. But she sure is good for drowning it all out isn't she? Maybe I kind of need her a little bit too. And you.::
@kytherion
A startled jolt, and then Shockwave is, so gently, releasing Ravage from his hug.
::Brother.:: he greets, relief and affirmation all together.
A slow cant of his helm fins and then he's tipping his helm down to look at Ravage. "... My brother wants us on the bridge. Can I... Can we walk there together? Starscream wants me to see some readings." He added.
"Of course we can," Ravage says. "Let me up on your shoulder and we'll get there faster. Better that we all wait together, right?" She cats herself and climbs up, then purrs against his neck and helm as she settles.
Shockwave holds still as she settles, then rises, starts making his way toward the bridge. Like this, with Ravi around his neck-- he's already starting to feel a little better.
The purr from Ravage resonates through his helm, creating a staticy feedback that cushions his emotions, just a little. Things don't seem so imminently stressful.
Soundwave stops pacing at once when he sees them come in: his brother, and his darling bride.
"There you are," says Starscream, from the conn. "Come, Shockwave, take a look at this transmission. I think it's very promising."
They have to win this. They have love. What have the Autobots got?
Shockwave perks up a little. “Megatron reached the absolute scanning range?” he asks, and moves forward willingly. That his brother is here also eases his spark, even if the worry for Megatron and the Decepticons as a whole is still some of what he’s thinking about.
"He did," Starscream says. "It won't be too much longer before he's home. And before we're all home."
"Really?" Ravage says from Shockwave's shoulders. She would desperately love for their emberling to have an actual home. And playmates, for that matter.
Shockwave paused, his good hand still scrolling through the readings; fresh hope flared through his field. "He's coming back?" He croaks. "Lord Megatron is on his way home?"
His armor flares just slightly, fans kicking on to dump excess heat. "I want us all to be safe. For us to be happy. No more... no more danger."
"That's what Scream said, bro. He told you he'd be okay." Soundwave pats Shockwave on the back and side-hugs him; Ravage puts a paw on Soundwave's shoulder and nuzzles her husband's face.
They stand like that for a moment until one of Soundwave's comms goes off. Soundwave's field flares briefly with alarm, but...only briefly.
"Misfire?"
He goes quiet for a moment and then chuckles.
"The Strong Anthropic Principle," he says, "is going to be Howlback and Brainstorm's ride home."
Then there's another moment of alarm.
"And the Dynobots are defecting."
When the comm ends, Soundwave laughs out loud. "I hope someone out there gets a good image of Deadlock's face whenever somebody tells him that Howlback turned Grimlock. And that Misfire and Grimlock are going to be ride-or-die again, too."
Shockwave falters. "The Dynobots are Ratchet's creations." He notes, quietly. "They are... They are a risk. We.... We will have to be careful."
