I know it's old ass news now. But a lot of people seem to be still talking about the Undertaker and his political beliefs. As a former Undertaker fan, I'm not surprised he's right-wing. After all, he is a Texan who was born just a year after Jim Crow was overturned by The Civil Rights act, born in a decade where there was much civil unrest. His American Bad Ass Gimmick was pretty much a dead giveaway, along with his posts of him, his wife and kid mocking the Kaepernick protest. There were a lot of dead giveaways actually, we just didn't have the critical analysis to deduce it, and we were consumed by propaganda daily.
With that being said, there are some fans who feel that it's wrong to judge Taker for being right-wing. And I say GTFOHWTBS. There are wrestling fans who are queer, disabled, black, brown, and poor. To find out that a man that they looked up to not only voted for but donated to the campaigns of people who draft laws and bills that makes life for them difficult is heartbreaking, because who he votes for is an extension of his own beliefs. So, it's not wrong to judge him for his beliefs. And your opinions of people fucking change as you mature and grow older. Just because some of you can't get over the romanticized version of people you've created in your head, just because you're on a nostalgia trip, doesn't mean people are soft or are making everything political. Everything is fucking political! Even seemingly apolitical shit.
I wrote this at the beginning of the year, but since everyone seems to be talking about the Brothers of Destruction having 45 as a guest on the Undertaker's podcast, it'll be good to bring it up again.
I truly do miss the days before social media when the veil between the persona of a celebrity and who they are in real life were upheld. We didn't need to know the personal beliefs of our favorite celebrities. But that's besides the point. The problem is that the majority of Americans think of capitalism as an abstract entity that's separate from our lives. Since birth, we have been conditioned to ingest political propaganda without realizing it. But as we grow older and unlearn the indoctrination and think for ourselves, we see things clearer. Wrestling fans who are more politically conscious are realizing that celebrities are puppets utilized by the ruling class to sway public opinion.
So, former wrestling fans who now hate Undertaker and Kane, it's not because they're snowflakes who can't handle a difference of opinion. Political beliefs are not just a difference of opinion as I stated in the original post. During the Last Ride documentary, the Undertaker chose to wear a Blue Lives t-shirt. They were filming in 2020, during the height of the George Floyd protest. Kane applauded the striking down of Roe v Wade. This is who they are and this is what they believe. The Undertaker and Kane have a lot of fans who are working class women, immigrants, black, LGBT+ and disabled; To see them throwing support for a gutter racist, sexist, ableist, and anti-working class billionaire have forced those fans to see that their heroes support policies that hurt them. So, yes fuck the Undertaker and Kane. Fuck anybody who think wrestling fans no longer supporting them are immature and whiny.
And I don't think Bautista supporting KKKopmala is any better. But that's another post for another day.
