It might be named after a Leopard 1, a type of German tank.
Leopardon may have been invincible. It was never damaged during battles, and it could defeat a monster with virtually no trouble. The fights between Leopardon and the giant enemies were typically short, and it was rare to ever see both characters in the same shot.
The Leopardon costume was apparently stolen during the show’s run, and it could not be replaced due to timing and budget restraints. However, another source says that because the actor had difficulty moving around, the suit was damaged and eventually lost. Either of these scenarios explains why the series relied on stock footage of Leopardon in latter episodes.
Spider-Man’s Leopardon inspired Toei to add giant mecha to their Super Sentai franchise. Battle Fever J was the first to adopt the concept.
Leopardon has also appeared in the Spider-Man comics.
