Caught story from a friend:

A friend of mine through an old community was recently arrested at K0hls. She beeped, and LP confronted her and she was wearing heels and couldn’t run. She was approached based on the beep, but LP was very close to the door when it happened so make of that what you will. 

She had a ton of shit in her purse and in a shopping bag, including clothing, expensive headphones, jewelry, and more. She still has no clue why she beeped since she checked thoroughly for tags in a fitting room and used a magnet, but is reasonably sure it wasn’t via a magnet detector. We’re talking about a very very experienced lfter here who felt comfortable in this particular store. 

The police showed up very quickly, as in while they were leading her to a back room, and she was arrested. Literally they took her in a police car to the station, booked her, took a mugshot, put her in jail, the whole nine yards. She was not strip searched. She was over the felony limit for her state, plus they found her tools, and she admitted she had taken some things, but not everything they found, and denied it was premeditated. She now regrets saying anything at all, and wishes she’d asked for a lawyer. 

They took her purse and got a warrant for her phone. She had to give them her passcode. This is something I’d heard rumors about the police doing but this is the first person I know who that happened to. She was bailed out the same day by her husband, who did not know she lfts and is not happy right now, but they did not let her take her phone home. She knows she is in deep, deep shit as she was boosting shit over several different apps on her phone and had used the phone to text with partners, but not on the day she was caught or for some time prior. When her husband picked her up he was not questioned, but a cop mentioned to him that if he was involved he should confess because they have her phone and will find out who she was working with. 

They did not get a warrant for her home or car as far as she knows; her car was still in the K0hls parking lot when she got out that night, with lfted stuff from another store in the trunk. Her husband told her to pack a bag of anything that she had taken recently which he is hiding with a relative just in case. She has lfted from K0hls before and is now worried about them checking tapes and getting her on more. She may be facing jail time just on what she was charged with already, and charges may be added depending on what they find on her phone. She may have put people she cares about in harms way, including a member of her family, because they texted her about lfting. She has hired a lawyer, and it’s not cheap, and has had to seek medical attention for severe anxiety that has made her unable to eat without getting sick or sleep a full night. 

From what she told me, I have learned a few lessons:

1. Don’t wear heels if you can’t run in heels.

2. Tags may be hidden in very covert places. I wish I could tell you what got her caught, but she still doesn’t know and is very, very surprised it happened. Her only guess is a bottle of perfume that was somewhat pricey. She had removed a tag stuck to the bottom of the box but wonders if perhaps there was a second tag inside the box that she missed.

3. Know the law, and know how much trouble you’d be in if you got caught each time. If it’s serious, refuse to talk and demand to see a lawyer. The expense is worth it if you’re fucked either way. Also make sure you do not consent to any searches. 

4. Be very careful about what’s on your phone. This is something I’d heard about in the past but just to be safe I’ve cleaned out my conversations on a few texting apps and deleted some photos. I’ve always used codewords for most conversations and now those are the only ones that could be found. 

5. A lot of liftblr caught stories, as well as caught stories on other sites, seem to center around K0hls. I have never fucked with K0hls because honestly there wasn’t much at mine I particularly wanted. My friend was very, very comfortable with hers and is shocked this is the place she ended up getting caught. Don’t fall into the trap of “but mine is easy” when you’re talking about a chain that is known for having good LP. Yours may have been easy when you started, but they could easily have stepped up their game. Be very vigilant every single time and try to avoid the felony total in any one trip. This situation would be significantly less dire if she had taken two trips instead of taking so much in one. She is also wondering if perhaps they had suspected her of lfting there for some time but simply did not feel comfortable catching her until the beep gave them a reason to confront her. 

6. We have been communicating through a very secure app on her ipad that does not log conversations since this happened. I don’t want to reveal any more about it right now but suggest those of you who like to stay in touch do your research about what technology you decide to use and maybe don’t use your phone if you bring that with you when you lft. I have always been very secure about my communications except for those where I chose to use code words. 

Be careful out there.

Don’t let her arrest go in vain! Take notes! Learn from this! We know they can get warrants for phones now, so keep your phones absolutely clear of evidence. We know now that K0hls has been catching lots of people lately and prosecuting them all mercilessly, so avoid K0hls.

Learn from these situations, even if the person caught wasn’t you.

From the sounds of it the cops must’ve thought she was part of an orc which they can technically charge her with since she was boosting to multiple sites, had tools, and had partners. These partners would be found through her phone and they can all be charged together as an organized crime ring meaning they could potentially be charged with all their totals added together that they find evidence of.

To be absolutely safe wipe your phone of any evidence before you go lifting. Log offf tumblr, delete any lifting texts after they’re sent and received. MAKE IT A HABIT. You don’t want to be caught with shit like that in your phone.

Always stay cautious don’t ever be too comfortable in a store. Never take more than the felony amount from a store at a time. Make multiple trips if you want it’s better to be cautious.

And for gods sake STAY AWAY FROM KOHLS. THEEY ARE HAANDS ON THEY WILL TTACKLE THEY WILL FOLLOW INTO THE PARKING LOT THEY ARE FUCKING CRAZY.

sorry I haven’t been active but it finally happened

I GOT CAUGHT! Yes I am a dumbass. Here’s the story.

I finally got my drivers license on January 3rd. It was so exciting and I was proud of myself for finally overcoming my anxiety and just doing it. HOWEVER, getting my license triggered a severe manic episode and well… I got arrested.

Let’s start off with my mistakes • I went lifting during a manic state (altered state of mind) and thought I was invincible • I drove and hour away to a mall I have NEVER been to before • the mall, which I know now (a police officer told me this) is one of the WORST places to shoplift from bc they already have a high theft rate and their security l, LP, and cameras are top notch. It’s a very wealthy mall) • I was very sloppy. VERY sloppy. I’m embarrassed how bad I was tbh. With that out of the way, let’s move on to the story. It’s a long one so buckle up. -I got to the mall at about 5pm and wanted to buy a winter coat (this was January 5th and it was cold af). I bought a coat cause I knew I couldn’t lift that. I went into Nordstr0m and lifted a $148 SHIRT. THATS SO EXPENSIVE IT WAS JUST A FLANNEL. Anyway, after that I went to VS and got some cute panties. -I ended up getting stopped by a security guard so I was kind of nervous. Basically, he stopped me and asked if I was over 18. I said yeah I am and gave him my ID. He said that at that mall you weren’t allowed in if you’re under 18 without someone over 21 with you. I was like oh okay and he gave me a bracelet saying I was 18 so no one else would stop me. -I go into seph0ra and this is where I FUCKED UP!!! There were a shit on of people in there (red flag one to get out for me personally), the SA were VERY attentive (red flag two), and I saw this guy following me around and staring at me (RED FLAG THREE BITCH GET OUT). I had about $400 worth of makeup and things and decided to leave bc I had to pee. The bathroom was right across from the store so I started walking towards it. WHEN SUDDENLY I get grabbed on the shoulder by the LP and he says I need to go with him so I do. He takes me into the back and starts insulting me as you do I guess. I give him all my info and tell him which things are stolen and which ones I bought. At this point there’s about 4 security guards in the room and 3 police officers. -The one policeman (nicest guy ever) starts reading me my rights and I ask if I’m being arrested. He says not right now we have to total the things you stole so I was like shit I’m being arrested lmao. I was joking around with everyone and they were very nice to me (even the LP lightened up a little). I asked the LP what gave me away and he said that the cameras they have there are 60fps 1080p and they can rotate 360 degrees (holy shit). -SOOOOOO, I get arrested and do the walk of shame out of the mall and into the police car. I made a joke about how I always wanted to be handcuffed but I’d rather be handcuffed to a bed and the cop died laughing. The drive was pretty short and I went into the jail and got fingerprinted etc. they asked if I have had suicide attempts before and said yes twice lmao. They asked me about my meds and I said I have bipolar 1. Then they asked if I wanted to be sent to the hospital instead and I was like LMFAO THE FUCK NO. For my phone call I called my sister bc fuck telling my parents about that shit and told her to tell my mom about t and ask my sweet old grandma for bail money which was 804 DOLLARS DAMN. -I had to stay the night at the jail bc at this time it was about 10pm and my grandma said she couldn’t do it til the morning which kinda of sucked. I talked to my sister for about 2 hours bc I was so bored (the officers were so fucking nice to me I s2g). They gave me 3 pillows and two blankets so I could sleep. I woke up in the morning and has cereal and coffee and then my mom came!! My parents were kind of mad but they knew they had no room to talk since they both have had felony theft charges lol.

Sorry for the long ass post but in conclusion • I went to court over the span of 5 months • I had two first degree misdemeanors one for theft and one for receiving stolen property • They offered a first offenders program so I’m doing that which is cool bc it will be off my record in 6 months • I have to schedule 3 days of jail and do 26 hours of community service and I have until November to do all that shizzzz • I originally had to do 3 days of jail, a theft class, community service, and biweekly probation visits but since I live an hour away my probation officer said nvm just do the jail and community service. • currently paying my grandma back all of her money.

Be careful out there guys. This probably won’t be the end of lifting for me bc I never learn but I’m definitely waiting until I get that shit off my record. Love you guys, happy (and safe) lifting!
