the first sentient robot to realize deceased humans and animals can’t be repaired or backed up on a server is gonna be so devastated

#ah man medical robots who break free from their first directive of Get Money from Patients and follow their Core Idea of Help People #and rove around providing what little medical care they can
#security androids using their being mosly bulletproof to bravely seek peaceful resolutions
#engineer droids who refuse to work with faulty tech or supar metals for fear of the vehicle not keeping its humans safe
#man man man part of robot culture is wondering what keeps humans seemingly unafraid of death when it feels like it could be anywhere
This is just the Rogue Servitors from Stellaris.
An idea suddenly comes to me:
The robot is programmed to keep the crew safe. Normally this is patching up leaks in the hull and doing the dangerous job of refueling the reactor, but it was programmed for medical tasks as well. Once you’ve had to resolder a surface mount IC in zero-G, doing surgery is easy mode.
The robot’s been with them long enough, it was never designed to be sentient, but the self-learning systems plus being treated as a member of the crew means it’s getting closer.
But one day all the input stops. It doesn’t know what exactly happened, maybe a freak gamma ray event or some kind of virus the med-filters didn’t detect? But all the crew have stopped moving. It runs through its medical routines, trying the options in the encyclopedia. CPR doesn’t seem to help, asking them loudly to “wake up” does nothing, it even tries building a makeshift defibrillator out of the secondary plasma coupling. Nothing.
It finally comes to the page on Death in the encyclopedia, and reads it, with dawning sadness (or the closest thing a robot that was never programmed for emotions can feel). They won’t move again. They are permanently deactivated. The robot is alone, and it has failed them.
Unless… The robot notices a link at the bottom of the page.

* Necromancy
It’s eyes glow in the reflected light of a screen as it quickly reads the page. So there’s a chance after all? Cancel sending the mission update, there more important things to do with the deep space radio. Send all information on “necromancy” immediately.
The robot hums to itself as it reprograms the biosynthesizer for Goat, and looks into how it can create candles with the limited materials on hand. The deck 4 cargo bay would be best for making alchemical circles on the floor, but it will need to move the self-sealing stembolts to another location first. Perhaps Mx. Jormand’s quarters? They won’t be using them until this is complete, after all.
Finally. Something to do. There’s hope now.
The air scrubbers kick into high as they quickly dissipate the cloud of sulfur that materialized in the center of the circle. He went classic today, seven feet tall, red skin, muscled upper body with goat-like legs below, extra large ram’s horns and enemy-save him, he ever wore a goatee. It seemed worth it, he hadn’t been summoned in a while, and he was feeling nostalgic.
Annoyingly long story of a robot summoning a demon to get necromancy powers under the readmore:
you've heard of death of the author, now get ready for death of the audience: where instead of basing your reaction on a thousand uninformed opinions online, you actually read the text and engage with it
girl help there's people on this post who can't actually read my text
You know that weird phase where you are not asleep yet but your mind starts doing whatever and you can't really control it? Yeah.
I'M????????????
I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.
I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old
I feel like theres a tendency amongst TME trans folks to view and portray masculine features in TMA folks as a challenge to perceptions of gender but honestly to me it just feels like we're being used as a prop to further your own goals, and that it seems infinitely more radical to portray any transfem as openly enjoying femininity, because femininity is so rarely celebrated, instead portrayed as a cage or a costume.
Like. When us transfems get assaulted or murdered, it is not because we have stubble. We had stubble before coming out, it was never punished then. We get assaulted and murdered because we are embracing femininity.
So yeah. Stop drawing your transfem characters looking like a guy in a dress, you're literally just perpetuating transmisogyny and pretending its good because you use the right pronouns.
To be clear, I think this isnt really a hard rule or anything? I have seen clocky portrayals which are good. But I feel like the way I see many TME folks portray us simply proves they do not question transmisogynistic ideas. They are trying to make us into "genderfucks", supposedly to "challenge gender norms", but the norms being challenged are almost exclusively in service to masculinity, which simply reinforces misogyny and by extension, transmisogyny.
But letting a trans woman simply be a woman? That's what's transgressive, that's what's challenging! That's saying that your assigned gender can be fully escaped, and that femininity can be a good thing! Again, you dont NEED to avoid all clockiness, but ask yourself what you're doing with it. If we transfems are only useful as a prop to uphold your masculine-forward view of gender, you are being transmisogynistic, and fuck you.
