Greenwing? || Mari || Freetime || Closed for Hideo

“If you mean, um, the… the devil’s snare then… no, I don’t think it is. Th-that’s a dangerous plant so it’s probably in one of the higher level greenhouses, if at all.” Hideo remembers quite a few snippets from the books, thanks to multiple re-reading sessions with his little siblings, and that happens to be one of them. He’s definitely grateful that there’s nothing dangerous in here- it makes it a much more pleasant place to spend some time.
Mari’s next words stun him as surely as a petrificus totalus would, though. Hideo can only stare at her for a moment. What? She was happy she got executed? That can’t be true, not at all. Especially not with the way it had happened… and hadn’t she heard anything he’d just said about her not deserving it?
“I-I, um, I mean I’m… I’m glad you’re not t-technically dead, but I still really don’t think you deserved that…” Hideo didn’t think anyone deserved death or torture. It’s not like it solved anything, or made anything better. Executing Mari hadn’t brought Tropi-co back to life, just like executing Lydinyk hadn’t brought Sonoe back to life. It didn’t erase the pain they’d gone through. It was all just… cruel and pointless.
“Um, y-yeah that’s right, sorry, we never really met outside the trials… but I did learn your name in them, um, mine is Hideo Nakano, though I guess you knew that too… i-it’s nice to meet you properly as well!” Hideo steps back and bows politely. Nobody bows anymore, really, it’s a pretty outdated formality, but for some reason Hideo feels like he should right now.
“No, I mean the daisies. Of course I mean the devil’s snare. The good news is that I can go into those greenhouses, the bad is that I’m fucking dead.”
This was all said with a completely straight face and an airy tone, as if Mari was talking about nothing more than the weather or a passing butterfly. But then again, with Mari, talking about the weather was a more or less unheard-of affair. She simply scratched at the back of her head, listening to him talk. After the horror star finished, she gave him the stiffest and most awkward bow possible, extending a hand before appearing to change her mind and withdraw it.
“I didn’t? Really, now? I steal for fun and profit, I kill someone in cold blood, and you don’t think I deserve it? And I suppose the criminals that I handed over to the police didn’t deserve it, either. Like it or not, I’m sort of dead. Half dead, I guess. Rant aside, you’re...hmm...”
Mari tapped her chin pensively, making eye contact with him. She had seen this individual before, hadn’t she? And not from the simulation, either. And then it hit her like a bough of the Whomping Willow. Aha.
“You were in that movie, Deep Glub or something, weren’t you? I liked it, you actually managed to scare me. Congratulations. Though admittedly, the special effects were sort of off.”
Now she was just making stuff up. Way to be pretentious, Mari. Nice.
