Carnivals, eh? “R-Really..? That… That sounds really nice..!! Aaah… I’ve read on so many events like that, but I’ve never really experienced one for real..! Aaah… The life of a free-abled person to go and explore and roam and have fun… How exciting! How thrilling! How enchanting..!” he exclaimed with glee.

His daydreaming happiness did not last long though until he had realized something was on his shoulder. Staring for a few moments at the hand that had so lightly touched him he hadn’t realized until now, his habitual instincts kicked in and made him scream and flinch, moving backwards. 

"I… I… I…," he stammered before taking in a deep breath. "I’M SO SORRY..!!! TH-THAT WAS ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY, AND YOUR HAND ACTUALLY FELT SORT OF NICE AND I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT, BUT I SWEAR THAT IT WAS AN HONEST MISTAKE I’M SORRY-!!

"Yeah, it was pretty fun." He smiled. He seemed happy, like he was calming down just little. Until he screamed. Ren pulled his hand away, jumping back. 

"Hey, hey! Shhhh." He raised his hands in defense. "It's fine! It's fine! I probably should've asked first before touching you, shhh. It's alright. Deep breaths, man. It's my fault, I'm sorry I startled you. Just trying to calm you down a little. Shh. It's okay." Katayama decided that maybe it would be a better idea for him to not get too close to Finch. He didn't want to risk scaring him again. "It's fine. We're all good, 'right?"

"A-Aaaah..!! N…Nice to meet you too!" he replied. "O-Or should I be more formal?! L-Like ‘It’s such a pleasure to meet you, why I am sure our meeting must have been fate’..?"

"…O-Or is that t-too, uh… f-forward?! I’m… I’m very, very sorry..!! Pl-Please find it in yourself to forgive me, Katayama-san..!!!" he pleaded, his voice a high shrill as he shook a little.

After taking the time to calm himself down a little with a little mental reminder, he seemed to return to his prior state. “O-Oh..? R-Really…? I, um… thought that amusement parks were actually really interesting! E-Especially the one with Mickey Mouse..!!” Maybe that explained a little bit of the photograph he was holding. “I… I’m sorry for speaking out of turn, Katayama-san…”

"H-Hey! It's not too forward, really. Don't worry about it, just... Take a breather, 'right?" Ren frowned, reaching out and touching Finch on the shoulder lightly, trying to calm him down.

She shrugged. "To be honest, I never really got to go to amusement parks unless I snuck in. There used to be a carnival that would come every summer a town over from where I lived, and when my brothers went out I would sneak out and go there with my friend. We didn't have any money to pay for tickets, so we would sneak on rides and steal cotton candy and lemonade until the cops found us and chased us all the way back..." She smiled a little, and laughed at the memory. "You didn't talk out of turn..? You can talk whenever you want. Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong...."

Oh, so it was Ren. Her smile grew, though it wasn’t friendly. “I’m fine,” she said. Her eyes were wide, with a strange glint in them. “How… about you?”

For the first time, she seemed almost amiable. However, her mind was reeling. Should she kill Katayama first? Or should she wait until he made the first move? She shuffled back a little bit, till she was standing by the bats. She decided it wasn’t best to use one unless he tried to kill her. Surely she was faster than him, right?

"Have you seen Aomori-kun anywhere?" she asked. "Because… I keep hearing him, but can’t… seem to find him?" She shook her head, which in turn made everything spin.

"I'm... Fine." He lied. She seemed like she had completely forgotten everything from before. Like she didn't remember why she hadn't been talking to him anymore in the first place. Ren was happy that she was being nice to him, but... She was being way too nice to be okay. The whispers started coming on a little stronger, and he shook his head violently, trying to get it to stop.

"...Monobear." Katayama frowned. "He told us that he put somethin' in us. This... Must be a side effect." His head started to hurt, and he rested a hand on it. "Ghhugh... Headache...." 

He looked back at Susumu. She did not look so good. She looked like she hadn't been so good since..... Fukashi. This was his fault. This was all his fault. If he hadn't killed Megumi, Susumu wouldv'e been okay. She would've still hated him, and called him a murderer, but he decided he could live with that if it meant she was okay. But she wasn't okay and now everyone was losing it.... Including him. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.

The music got louder, louder, louder. Susumu half wondered if it Rihito was the one playing it as she stumbled through the theme park. Well, he was doing a good job, if that was the case. It sounded happy and upbeat, though slightly distorted. In fact, everything seemed distorted.

She froze in front of the batting cages and her eyes widened. Something, no, someone, was whispering to her. It took her a minute, but she finally worked out who it was.

"Aomori-kun…?" she called, her voice cracking. She spun around, trying to figure out where he was. And never once did it occur to her that it was probably the result of whatever was injected into her by a certain stuffed bear. "Where are you?"

She seemed to stare past the batting cages, trying to figure out where he was. But then she heard a voice behind her, and so shrieked and whirled around. The sun made it hard to see who it was, but that didn’t matter in this case. She knew for a fact they were probably going to kill her.

"What do you want?" she asked. "Are you here… to kill me?" Surely whoever it was was planning on it. She smiled eerily, as if she knew what was going to happen.

Ren went out to investigate what was going on. The whispers were disturbing, and scary, and he was honestly pretty terrified. He tried to shake them from his head, but they wouldn't go away. He kept walking, looking around.

Until he saw her. Susumu. He hadn't talked to her since.... Since she found out. She looked scared and disoriented. He slowly, cautiously made his way over to her. "Hey... Susumu."

When she turned around, Ren noticed she really didn't look good. Which was understandable. She lost Fukashi, and now this. He frowned at her response. "I'm not gonna hurt you, 'right?" He looked off to the side. "Just... Checking to see if you're okay." He tried his best not to look bothered by everything that was happening. He hated looking weak.

Cetacean Theater (Open)

Zenoko had woken up early after the trial to once again explore their expanding living quarters. With all the extra space and the many people who had now left them, it was starting to feel rather lonely. It was with great surprise and relief then that, after having explored a little of the new theme park, he came across the aquatic center.

The aquarium was nice enough and felt quite lively, though it possessed the standard areas of stench and dried blood. He couldn’t help wondering what the point was now. In the first area the strange areas and sights put them all on edge and added to the aura the bear was obviously trying to create, but now? After everything they’d seen so far, why would they be freaked out by a bit of smeared blood.

Carrying on he found himself at the amphitheater, which contained a few dolphins swimming around in the large pool. He instantly ran to the glass and pressed his face against it, peering through at the creatures. They looked about as content as anyone else in this city and he was deeply pleased at this. He retreated to the stands and sat, watching the gentle movements of the dolphins.

Ren never liked amusement parks, but he was fairly fond of aquariums. He liked fish, and watching them swim was calming, so he figured hey, why not check it out. He stared at the fish as they swam by, and walked slowly by the tanks. 

When he got out, he found the amphitheater. He scanned the rows and rows of seats, obviously meant for more people than lived in the city now, until his eyes rested on a figure in red. He walked over, taking a seat next to him. 

"Pretty sad." He sighed. "Poor creatures. They don't deserve this." Katayama frowned, watching the dolphins swim around. He felt sorry for them, stuck in this tiny pool. They were probably incredibly unhappy. Ren wanted to set them free, to let them out into the ocean, so they could be happy, and do happy dolphin things. "They look so depressed...."

Once he had managed to return to a more normal and less frantic state of mind, he had been able to realize that it was the one and only tattoo artist in town. ..Or city, he suppose would be a better analogy.

While her words certainly weren’t the most comforting in the situation, the blond still seemed to find peace in her statement. Chuckling to himself, he nodded with a smile and a face that was almost reminiscent of a birthday boy of the age of seven. 

"Y-Yes, Ma’am!! My name is formally Kenji Byouki, but Finch can do you perfectly fine if you so wish..!! I, um, wouldn’t want to ‘rain on your parade’ as they might say ehehehe..!"

"Y-You’re… um, Katayama-san, c-correct..? I, uh… I’m sorry, but I just, ah, well… wanted to make sure!! A continuous mistake w-wouldn’t be good ahahah… Y-You see, I’ve been… um, well… a-a little frazzled as of late! I’m sure it’ll all be back to normal soon..!"

She nodded happily. "The one and only." Ren grinned at him. He seemed pretty damn nervous. She decided to be a little bit more careful with him. He seemed pretty friendly though. Hopefully he's not always this... Skittish. "Nice to finally meet ya." She offered him friendly smile, hoping maybe her intent to not hurt him would show and maybe calm him down a little. 

She decided to turn to small talk, unsure of what to say. "This place sure is creepy." She sighed. "Amusement parks always gave me the creeps, 'specially when they're all abandoned like this." She shuddered. "Jeez....."

While initially worrisome, Byouki’s life seemed to have significantly changed due to his circumstances. Upon awaking, Finch’s mind raced and his thoughts clashed. Should he be too afraid to walk outside? Would he get ridiculed? Would he be seen as a legitimate threat for once? The engineer paced his room nervously whilst considering his options. Sure he had let Cero investigate the newly opened area for him, but at some point he was going to have to venture into the unknown himself. 

In fact, it seemed as if the thief was giving him a nice nudge to get out and breathe in the (sorta) fresh air. How troublesome he was. Nevertheless, Finch couldn’t hide away all of his life here before it would be taken away.

As time progressed, the morning slipping into afternoon, Finch’s attitude had also changed. Perhaps he should look at this as an opportunity to not have to worry for once. Rising from his room’s chair, he had dashed out from within the confines of his room in a haste and went to find what might be an adventure waiting for him. No matter how ordinary it’d be, he’d face it with a genuine smile.

At least, that’s what he thought would happen. He was elated and carefree until he had stumbled upon a certain picture at the entrance of DespairWorld. Its sheer mystery seemed to keep him rooted to the ground as his bemusement took control of his mind. Sure there were pictures in the prior areas (at least apparently there was on in the third area), this was the first to involve himself. 

Maybe he had gotten carried away with his desperate attempts to find some sort of answer from the photograph, because when he heard the approaching footsteps, he had jumped and shrieked in surprise, moving to clutch the picture tightly with his hands.

Ren jumped, screaming as well. "Holy fuck, dude! You scared the shit out of me!"

She took a deep breath, letting it out in a sigh. "Jesus christ, man. I'm not gonna kill ya." She paused, realizing her poor choice of words. "...Look, just calm down, 'right? I'm here for the same reason as you. I just wanna check the place out. Unless you have a different reason." She shrugged.

"Sorry I startled ya, by the way." She looked up at Finch again. She had seen him at trials, and sorta just around, but it only just occurred to her that this was the first time she was really meeting him. She considered introducing herself, but realized, no, better not. He probably already knew who she is. Instead she pretended not to know for certain who he was. "Finch, right?"

Akiko was shocked and disturbed by the news but she hid it with a smile, hopping over to where the tattoo artist stood. Whilst there, she couldn’t help but hear the words that came out of his mouth, and she folded her arms with a little plaintive sigh, before grinning once more.

"It’ll be okay, Ren-chan! We can use our time to find out how we can beat that goddamn awful Monobear thingy… Then nobody will die except the bad guy, and it’ll be like a movie where the heroes do some super-cool fighting like-" She did little finger pistols. "Pew, pew, pewwww! And then the bad guy is dead. And all the sleuthing for clues that we’ll do will take our minds off being hungry!"

Bouncing up and down, she pursed her lips for a second. 

"Although.. Can you eat snow…?"

Ren smiled. Akiko's optimism was reassuring, and honestly, pretty cute.  "Yeah, I guess you're right." She wished she really believed her. She wished the world worked like that, where the bad guy always got what was coming to them. But she knew that wasn't the case, no matter how much she wanted to stay optimistic.

"Snow?" She paused, thinking.

"It's really just water, so I don't think it would count as food... Though water might help."

Luckily for Hideki, he never went anywhere without making sure to fill up his own stomach. He didn’t seem too bothered by the motive, mostly because he understood how it was like to not have food for times in a row. It wasn’t fun, but if he had to he would. He looked towards Ren with a small frown. 

"Uh… Ren-niechan?" he asked. "How about trying to fill up on water?" That was one of the ways that he seemed to get rid of the hunger at times. Granted, it wasn’t exactly completely clean water, but water was water and hydration is fun.

"Yeah, I guess you have a point..." He shrugged. "But how long would that last us..? Just water, I mean. After a while, people are gonna get desperate enough to..." 

He stopped himself, not wanting to scare Hideki, or himself even more. Katayama didn't want to think about what could happen. He looked up at the sky. "Better stock up on water."

The motive was definitely concerning, to say the least. not only problematic and concerning, but risky. Was the headmaster stupid enough to put their 'puppets' in hunger? Wouldn’t they want them healthy and active to fully feel the psychological pain? Or, they also wanted them to pass dilussion and pain. Well, whatever they have, they definitely put some thought to it.

Maybe what they should do- to differ the puppetmaster’s attempt to hurt them, would be distracting themselves. Conversation seems to be the easiest way, and while Hayakawa was not the most gifted person at such thing, she was ready to give and take.

She had seen him, Katayama, paining and sighing about his hungry midsection in some sort of amusing pain. She raised a brow in expectation, and raised her frames further beyond her nose. 

- Katayama. Don’t fret- thinking about it will only make you hungrier. You should do something else- I don’t know. Painting, drawing. You’re a tattoo artist, correct?

Ren looked up at her. He hadn't really met her before, just saw her sometimes in the crowds of other people. He faked a smile.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. I haven't really done much of that lately, to be honest." 

He laughed a little, looking back up. "Megumi Hayakawa, right?" He tilted his head a little to one side. "I don't think we've really met before..? If we have, sorry! I'm not really good with faces... Or names, really." He admitted.

No more food? Ren's heart sank. Damn. Maybe I could survive without it for a while... He thought. I mean, I've gone hungry before. He tried to make himself feel at least a little better. He sure would miss eating whenever he wanted though... These past few years, he had gotten used to regular meals. He frowned. He wanted a cheeseburger really badly. Really, really badly. He heard his stomach growl, and remembered he forgot to eat breakfast this morning. Ren patted his stomach, sighing. "Man... I miss food already..." He whined. "Jeez..."

Rina watched Ren from afar, not sure if she should intervene. In any other situation she would have simply said some snarky remark to Ren, but this didn’t seem like the time. Allies were what someone needed to survive in this world, and Rina would only gain hate for attacking someone in their weakest moment.

At the same time, she couldn’t go and comfort the poor girl. That simply was out of the question. Rina didn’t necessarily understand what Ren was going through, but she understood the feeling of not wanting her secrets revealed. In the end, all Rina did was cross her arms, put on a condescending face and remark, “You have some bad luck, don’t you?”

Ren wasn't in the mood to lash out. She didn't have the energy. She didn't care how much she hated Rina. She just didn't care how much of a bitch she was. She looked up at her, wiping her eyes.

"I g-guess I sure do."  She looked away. Katayama didn't think this would affect her so much. Everything just came up and hit her like a brick wall.

She watched as he wiped his eyes and took her hand, seeing just how much of a mess he was as he continued to sob out. Heather was trying to find it in herself to feel bad, feeling just slightly at that for that being revealed to everyone, but she was keeping her guard up as well. If it weren’t for her interest, she might not have approached him at all.

”..The past is the past right?..Something you can..learn from.” She would let out, nodding her head. “…You seem sorry enough for what you did.” She herself couldn’t believe her own words, but she did think it was true. “…You SHOULD be learning from it anyways..right?..The past…I’m not holding it against you..having a past like that..I’m maybe even a bit jealous. Not of you killing someone, I don’t mean that of course.”

"I.. I wouldn't kill anyone.. Not again.." Ren tried to even out his breathing. "They were pressuring me.. They said I they wouldn't feed me for another week if I didn't." He looked up at her. He usually wasn't this trusting. But he couldn't help it. He needed someone. And she was the only one there.

"You're... Not going to hold it against me?" He looked surprised. "...Thank you." He wiped his eyes again. He wasn't crying as much anymore. "Why would y-you be jealous?"

With the second secret being revealed, it was definitely a startling one. Heather looked over at Ren, looking for an expression as he was down on his knees. She would hug her arms to herself, examining Ren a bit. She should be wary of him as seeing that he already DID murder someone, it, at least in Heather’s eyes, would be easier for him to commit one than someone who’s never done it before.

However, the aspect of such a heavy hitting past really interested Heather. She looked around a bit before approaching him, extending her hand to him, a blank look on her face as she was trying to think of herself what sort of emotion she should show here. “Here..” She let out, wanting to help him back up, her eyes narrowing a bit.

He looked up, sniffling. He was a mess. A big, blubbering mess. Ren wiped his eyes, taking her hand. It was the best he was going to get right now. He doubted anyone trusted him even a little bit anymore. He watched as Susumu avoided him. 

He stood up shakily. "I..." He tried to wipe away his tears again, but they just weren't going away. "I fucked up so bad..." He felt so vulnerable, sobbing out in the open like this. He hated it. He hated being so weak. He wanted to dig himself a hole and never, ever come out.

Ren's heart raced. He collapsed onto his knees. He knew that people's secrets were being revealed, but.. He never thought HIS would be. The memories of his older brothers came flashing back. Shut the fuck up you little brat! Shoot them! Don't be so weak! If you don't shoot the little bitch and the old man, you're not eating for another week! He remembered the weeks without food especially. Sometimes they were just too poor to afford food that he would sometimes sneak into the closets and eat his brother's dogs food. 

He held his head, starting to cry. "I... Fuck." He mumbled something about not wanting to go back over and over. No one would ever trust him again, would they? Not even Susumu. Especially not Susumu. He wanted to forget his brothers so badly. So, so badly. He just wanted them out of his head. All the things they made him do when he was younger.. All the things they did to him. He stared at his hands, which were starting to shake.

He seemed slightly surprised, but his expression was still sad as Ren talked to him. “….Y-yeah… I’ll be okay, Ren-niechan…” he replied, with a downcast tone. 

He didn’t expect this to affect him as much as it did. He didn’t expect to feel sadness of his past come and smack him right in the face.

"You sure?" She frowned. "That's a pretty.. harsh reminder... And you don't really look okay." 

Ren looked at him, worried as hell. If it had been her... She would've been petrified. She was scared, even though she would never show or admit it. Not ever. Especially in front of Hideki. She didn't want anyone to die, but she was just about desperate to get out of this godawful place. She pitied Hideki. He was just too sweet to be in such a horrible place as this...
