First of all adapting the book’s only black character and your “place that we started in” isn’t anything about her as a person it’s just looking at how she furthers the white protagonists’ story. Ok.

Second “we felt we were telling the story of the dragonseeds pretty completely and robustly in terms of all the different walks of life” while cutting out the poor black girl who’s othered because she’s a poor black girl is fucking insane?? Yes Addam is black but his race is never a factor in the story. Same with the other Velaryons, same with Orwyle, it’s never brought up, they just exist in the world and it’s not an issue. And that in itself is not a problem! But when you’re adapting a story where race IS a factor it becomes a problem, and Hess and Condal are addressing that problem by removing it. They’ve decided the show is “complete and robust” without her. Scene after scene developing what total red shirt Ormund Hightower might’ve been like because Ryan wanted his own little Tywin to play with but nothing for the outcast bastard girl who tamed a wild dragon on her own.

Oh but they do still need to cause drama so Rhaena is riding sheepstealer now! Forget about her hatching the last dragon or being a symbol of hope or any of that shit, she’s a self-loathing fugitive now because that’ll “keep us at the core of where we wanted to take Rhaenyra and Daemon’s relationship.”

They both deserve so much better.

Watched The Descent the other night and cannot stop thinking about this duo

Fearless, ultra-capable and just drop-dead gorgeous leader with loads of charisma and infectious self-assurance that makes their friends follow them anywhere. Hubris makes them bite off way more than they can chew and puts everyone in danger, but instead of shutting down they go even harder and trust that if they just use every last ounce of their badass strength and skills it’ll be enough to save their friends.

And it ALWAYS just makes shit worse. Juno tries the climb and falls and fucks up Becca’s hand, Leo leads his boys into yet another suicidally glorious charge, in another story they’d save the day but regrettably they live in the Tragedy Zone where trying to be a hero means you have to watch the people you love die. It’s sooooo good it makes my brain vibrate

Ok casting for the Mad King stage play was announced, and Jon Connington is not on the list of characters. And I don’t want to make assumptions, nor do I want to be the “they left out a character I like and therefore this is a bad adaptation!” Guy. But like eeeeeveryone else is on the list. Lord and Lady Whent got cast, all seven Kingsguard are in there (including the ones who don’t do anything), Benjen and Oberyn are on the list despite barely being relevant to the Rebellion storyline. Owen Merryweather, the Hand immediately before JonCon, and Qarlton Chelsted, the guy immediately after JonCon, have been cast when they’re mentioned for maybe a paragraph each in the books. Meanwhile JonCon is a full POV character with a pivotal role and he’s nowhere to be seen.

And he’s also the only full-canon gay character.

Like. Again I don’t want to make assumptions but that is a VERY conspicuous omission

Gideon wouldn't read yaoi because she has never really considered that men could be capable of complex feelings and sexual attraction.

Harrow wouldn't read yaoi because the notions of romance and sex are almost as disgusting to her as the concept of men. However, if she had to pick, she would read yaoi over yuri, because the most she would feel towards yaoi is disdain, while yuri would vaporize her on the spot.
