idk if this is a contreversial take or not but i think that the ideal internet experience is being able to remove specific things (triggers, nsfw, gore) if you truly dont want to see them but overall being also shown things you aren’t interested in. i think one of my fave things about tumblr is seeing like 50% of my dash be about fandoms im not in, bands i dont like and quotes from books i dont want to read rather than this endless feedback loop of tiktok showing me ‘exactly what i want to see’ in a trap to keep me online as long as possible and blind to communities outside of my own. i want a mix of curating my own experience and a healthy dose of content i don’t already know i want to see, yknow?

I think another really interesting way to separate what roles omegas, betas, and alphas have in a pack (since they're all supposedly meant to help or care in one way or another) is this:

Omegas: emotional care (listening to people vent, comforting them, making sure everybody is happy and feels listened to, offering reassurance, etc)

Alphas: physical care (cooking, cleaning, making sure the home is safe [stereotypical "protecting" territory], physically defending if needed)

Betas: managing conflict and general assistance (mediating arguments especially between alphas and omegas, providing help for whoever needs it atm)

On the Subject of Packs

i’ve seen a lot of miscecanis/misceanimalis people (mostly in discords) so desperate to be part of a pack that they just join the first pack that says it has an opening. and while that’s their choice, and i understand the need for belonging to a pack myself, i just think it’s a bit... strange.

a pack is (at least, in my opinion) a serious thing/commitment? i mean it’s not like getting mated or married or like signing a job contract or anything. but it is meant to be sort of like a found family. a group of people bound together by choice.

and i honestly think people are putting themselves at risk by not researching what different packs are like, their rules and expectations, the tone and seriousness level of the pack, the people in said pack to know if they’ll mesh...

it’s kind of being treated like a nee form of little more than open messaging boards/public group chats, not to be considered carefully to see if it meets your needs first because it’s so easy to hop from pack to pack

which is totally fine if you join a pack and discover its not for you- like i said, there is no contract and it’s not a ~lifetime commitment~; we’re not cults

but it’s easy enough to get to know people in a pack before saying you’re joining that pack, like how you wouldn’t just meet a stranger who says their single and just immediately commit to dating them just because you’re lonely, or join a random group of strangers on the street you know nothing about and say you’re part of them now in the non-internet world just because you’re lonely and they say you can. there’s no difference in joining a pack.l

i just think that not being discerning about a group of people you’re committing to spend a good amount of time with/talking to isn’t the safest behavior and has the potential to lead to a lot of problems or even dangerous situations.

While there’s a general consensus on the behavior of the primary dynamics (Alpha, Beta, and Omega) I haven’t seen much consistency in regards to the secondary dynamics (Gamma, Delta, Zeta, and Sigma). So for that reason, here are my definitions of them! These are both within miscecanis and omegaverse fiction.

While the secondary dynamics are most definitely their own thing, I’ll be using the primary dynamics to help define them. Also note that the traits mentioned are generalized, and will not apply to everyone who identifies with a secondary dynamic.

Gamma:

between or both Alpha and Omega

biologically closer to Alpha, behaviorally closer to Omega

protective, often timid, introverted, very easy to get along with but may take longer to form a close bond

Delta:

between or both Alpha and Beta

no biologic/behavioral lean

biologic/behavioral lean differs from person to person

fiercely loyal, standoffish, introverted, sometimes hard to get close to (but you’ll never regret it once you do)

Zeta:

between or both Beta and Omega

no biologic or behavioral lean

biologic/behavioral lean differs from person to person

doting, tend to overshare, ambiverted, open up very quickly and form intense relationships

Sigma:

between or both Alpha and Omega

biologically closer to Omega, behaviorally closer to Alpha

bold and passionate, stubborn, extroverted, can be intimidating at first but are very sweet if you take the time to get to know them

These definitions are free for anyone to use or adopt into their own omegaverse, with or without credit!

What’s your opinion on 5 alphas, 2 betas and 1 omega as a pack? Would it work or would it be a mess?

Hi! I think with enough communication and effort you can make most things work regarding the number of dynamics in a relationship.

Just like any relationship it’s about learning to accommodate to each other’s needs while maintaining your own boundaries.

If it was a relationship where all the alphas are dating the omega and betas but not each other I think there could be problems especially if they were to all rut at once? Because that would be one very tired omega and betas assuming the alphas were okay with being in the same space as each other.

If the relationship is where everyone is dating everyone or most people are dating most people I think it could work wonderfully!

If all the alphas rut at once? I think it would be a little bit of a nightmare just because I think alphas are harder to feed during rut than omegas are to feed during heat. So it would take a lot of wrangling to make sure everyone had enough food. But you could theoretically carb load before and that would help.

I think scenting would be important for everyone but I can just imagine the betas whos instincts one claiming and being claimed aren’t as strong not really realizing how important and lovely scenting is? So they suddenly get ambushed one day by their partners and told they smell really good but would smell better if their scents mixed.

I think also the omegas heat would either be great because they have every need met or kind of confusing because there’s so many people that they love right there and they wanna be with them all? Depends on the omega and the pack.

I’m also a firm believer in pampering the betas who help during a heat or rut cycle afterwards. Because of course the betas can and often to participate but they’re also in charge of keeping everyone safe and healthy. So after a cycle? Beta pampering time. Individual or group pampering both work.

I also think it would be beneficial for most packs but especially an alpha majority pack to have a house or houses where everyone has their own room and space. Just so everyone has a place to retreat and be on their own. (Also huge couch is a must)

big cuddly alpha in love with an omega who doesn't nest. Alpha always coming home with nesting supplies, omega just grinning and bearing it. One day the omega can't take it and finally tells alpha that they don't nest. The alpha is upset until the omega encourages them to make one of their own, and they love it!

endlessly chatty beta with a deaf crush. Thinks they're being ignored until they realize! Beta starts to learn sign to connect with them. Crush is tickled pink by the gesture, knew that the beta liked them before, just didn't know what to say.

omega with an omega partner. Omega A's nest is really messy and gross because they've been working/busy and Omega B see's that it bothers them. B decides to declutter and spruce it up, and when A comes home they love it!

alpha who grew up held to impossibly high standards. Always trying to become something they feel is the "perfect" version of themself. Their beta partner, wanting to assure them that they're loved for who they are in the now, complements the alpha and tells other people how proud of the alpha they are in public. This warms the alpha's heart because their parents never said stuff like that.

alpha freaking out about becoming a dad! their pregnant partner makes them nervous because they're isn't anything they can do to "help" or "protect" physically, until the birth.

beta caught in a love triangle. Hates it because they don't want to let either one down, and doesn't know which one to choose but lives for the drama and anticipation of it all.

Courting gifts for an omega

Scent is a super important part of the courting process. Scent helps determine if a pair is compatible. Courting gifts based on scent show awareness and thoughtfulness.

- clothing already worn by the Alpha

- soaps and perfumes that compliment an omega’s scent

Food shows an Alpha can provide. Handmade food shows competence and dependability. Store bought food shows wealth, and planning.

- bringing an omega energy rich foods before their heat

- an old family recipe made from scratch

- bringing an omega lunch while they’re at work/school

Nesting materials can include scent as well as showing the ability to provide. This could be seen as a more intimate gift.

- knitting or crocheting a blanket

- blanket from the Alpha’s bed

- soft blankets and pillows that remind them of their omega

- soft and comfortable clothing

Some omegas like flashy reminders that they are cared for. This can be from friends, family, and partners.
