Floor length transparent powernet dress with extra long sleeves and ruched panel. Treated neckpiece. Worn with black suede wedges.

Full length, bodycon, sleeveless dress with powernet side and ankle panels. Treated neckpiece and worn with models own shoes.

D I V E R S I T Y

The Diversity brief was a national competition I was entered to take part in. The specifications focussed on accentuating different body types i.e age, skin, size. Looking into today's society I seen a massive demand for tattoos. In 2013 Tattoos are now accepted in work places and are extremely common although they are seen as personal expression, a way to make yourself more unique. Tattoos symbolised a source of community in the early 60's and are seen more as fashion statement in today's culture. With tattoos trending so long ago I wanted to emphasise a positive spin on the effects of tattoos. After researching peoples feedback on tattoos, the biggest question they usually face is "won't you regret them when you're older?" So I used tattooed profiles of all ages in my research inspiration which lead to interesting social identity issues.

If they intend to have these tattoos for the rest of their life, why get them so young, what's the rush?

Because it's trendy now.

FAD

So I was entered in this national competition where I had to design two outfits inspired by future, technology, and economical values within fashion. Trend predicting 10 years ahead of time I found that within 50 years we will be living underwater due to sea levels rising and the decrease in the planet earth. I looked at sustainable materials appropriate for this lifestyle and incorporated gill detailing which simulates fish forms of breathing in the garments. Researching design solutions, runners found it difficult to run at night as it was hard for them to be seen by others so without using electrics I designed solar LED lights to sit behind the slit giving off ripples of light when its dark, New Fibre technology allows channels of neon light to run through fabric which would fit the jacket panels.

B L I C - C I T Y

This was a team module, where we had to create an apparel brand for Ally Capellino, a Shorditch based handbag designer. Market research and brand awareness were key throughout this project and I opted for a grunge all saints style with a lighter, feminine touch. I created a brand along with unique merchandise. Firstly, the group decided on the Amazon as inspiration due to Ally being an eco friendly character and from there I researched jewel beetles, which then lead me to my metallic palette. The main criteria was digital print, my inspiration was combining an artist and a designers technique to flourish my own. It worked. I love the print and compliments the silhouette to a T. The print fabric is slight stretch jersey and the accompanying outfits are muslin and cheesecloth layered with raw edges.

Designing for SS13 I wanted a fresh look on summer collections so instead of brights I looked at soft metallics and off whites. Inspired by the Amazon Rainforest, Jewel beetles were my main muse.
