knowledge long forgotten
got really into reading item descriptions on this playthrough. anyway did you know the silent princess is one of the only raw materials with a cooking effect to not explicitly list that effect in its description

Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I wouldâve never made a tumblr account.
Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element âoverflowâ and change it from âhiddenâ to âvisibleâ then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.
Thereâs also a Firefox/Chrome extension called Behind The Overlay that does all that with one mouse click. Used it for years; what a time saver.
And if you encounter a true paywall, use Archive.Today to bypass it. Just paste the paywalled url into the blue âsearch archived snapshotsâ box near the bottom:

You wouldnât think that flamingoes are extremophiles just from looking at them. Itâs like somebody tried to build the vertebrate equivalent of that fungus that lives inside nuclear reactors, and ended up with a gangly pink dinosaur with a spoon for a face.
For everyone in the comments asking how flamingos are extremophiles:
Flamingos can survive in low oxygen, high altitude, high temperatures, low temperatures, high alkaline, they can and will drink boiling water and they can be completely frozen at night and still get up the next morning
Donât fuck with flamingos
âŠ.. Didnât know most of that
Huh⊠so thatâs why zoos donât put them somewhere warm during winter.
Oh yeah, this leaves out what I *did* know about themâthey can also survive hypersalinity. That is, water so salty it kills practically everything elseâwater so salty it burns your skin.
American flamingos just drink that shit
(animal death) this is a real undoctored photograph (*though the body was stood up for the shot) of a dead flamingo on the surface of lake natron, a lake so salty and so alkaline that itâs naturally carbonated like soda and would eat through your stomach lining if you drank from it.
When this photo went viral years ago, most people assumed this poor flamingo must have been killed by the lake.
It is actually the lake where 75% of its global population are hatched. This is a photo from the same lake:
Some species of flamingo actually subsist almost entirely on a diet of bacteria! In other words, there is a species of dinosaur that eats only bacteria and lives in lakes so toxic they would kill almost anything elseâand it is best known to the average person as a kitschy lawn decoration.

RATING: RELIABLE
Flamingos can survive in high altitudes, hypersaline conditions, and caustic lakes.
Source: âAll flamingo species have evolved to live in some of the planetâs most extreme wetlands, like caustic âsoda lakesâ, hypersaline lagoons or high-altitude salt flats.â
They can survive water so alkaline it burns human skin.
Source: âMore than a million lesser flamingos breed in Tanzaniaâs Lake Natron, for instance, a lake fed by hot springs with water so alkaline that it can strip away human skin (one pioneering flamingo researcher named Leslie Brown spent months in Nairobi General Hospital after burning his legs wading out to observe where the birds nested).â
They can drink water at near-boiling temperatures.
Source: âThey can drink water at near boiling point to collect freshwater from springs and geysers at lake edges. If no freshwater is available, flamingos can use glands in their head that remove salt, draining it out from their nasal cavity.â
The lakes they inhabit can freeze overnight, and the flamingos can survive once it thaws in the morning.
Source: âThe birds may seem to epitomize the tropics, but they also live in the Andes, 15,000 feet above sea level, where they rest on lakes that freeze around them overnight.
âYouâll see them sitting there like snowballs, frozen on ice,â Dr. Arengo said. âAnd as the temperature warms up, they thaw out, fluff themselves up and go about their business.ââ
The photo is indeed from Lake Natron, taken by photographer Nick Brandt. The content of the lake chemically preserves animal corpses that die there. You can see more photos of this here.
It is also true that 75% of Lesser Flamingos are hatches on Lake Natron.
Source: âThe lakeâs landscape is surreal and deadlyâand made even more bizarre by the fact that itâs the place where nearly 75 percent of the worldâs lesser flamingos are born.â
Some species of Flamingo eat cyanobacteria or algae.
Source: âFlamingos have very specialised diets. And their food is responsible for their famous pink colouration. The two species in Planet Earth II eat a lot of floating microscopic algae, which contains carotenoid pigments, the same types of chemical that make carrots orange. These pigments turn their feathers pink, orange and red â without them, flamingos would be white.â
⊠@todaysbird ??
yeah theyâre just like that

the problem with havin a couple very niche hyperfixations.... is you never know when the overlap suddenly smashes you upside the head with an epiphany
Supergiant Games BASTION. Game adore to bits, own on multiple platforms (we triple-dippin up in here) will still take out and play thru fully when need a soothing vidya experience
.....and only right now, because been looping TAZ music ... did it just hit me (like a brick upside the head) there is a piece of Bastion music in this!
like no, not actual copy/pasted sample of a Bastion track, but a piece of the same ..uhh... raw material? loop? whatever they're called
in Arms Outstretched from The Suffering Game is in the ...uhhh.... a piece of Mancer's Dilemma track
like... i can literally SEE in my head the lil Wild Unknown scene with The Kid rolling around in his intoxicated fever dream as those bits play
I dun know shit 'bout music aside frm a vague idea that the lil swirly symbol is called a clef
so ...uhhh... imagine seeing a very specific piece of fabric with a very distinct design and suddenly realizing it is used as a patch or a frill on another piece of clothing. Something thats been there for ages but you never quite realized it before until it was in the light just so
@siegio
yawp, in The TAZ Zone episode Griffin does mention getting some comments, he was talking about 11th Hour music. Maybe fandom focused on that arc more since western~ish vibes and Bastion is all about them frontier notes too
I'm honestly more impressed my dumb ears recognized a loop/sample at all... I can tell you if a movie trailer is using the damn track from Dark City as their music, but picking out a few notes in the right order is absolutely a first for this tonedeaf idiot
that aside - oooh boy is it fitting for that bit to be in both tracks! For absolutely different reasons and ain't complaining
Rabbits = small, compact, cute
Hares = big, leggy, can see directly into your soul
also most image comparisons don't show just how crazy the size difference between the two is, at least regarding wild or the average domesticated rabbit to a hare (Flemish Giants are an outlier breed, shush). which, to be perfectly fair, they usually aren't gonna be seen together to photograph.
"oh well that's not the same trail cam, maybe there's some forced perspective going o- nOPE."
Yeah, hares are waaaay bigger than rabbits. Here's a European rabbit taking on a brown hare
FUNGUARY IS HAPPENING AGAIN!!! February is right around the corner, which means itâs soon time for Funguary 2024! the drawing event where we draw a bunch of mushroom based characters during the month of feb. This will be our third year of Funguary, and this time itâs a leap year!
Hereâs how it works: Each week of the month will have a theme with seven different prompts, draw a mushroom character within that theme in order to join. The themes are Celestial, Demonic, Edible and Cryptic. Each week of February is a new theme. You donât have to complete all the prompts, just one mushroom per theme/week is plenty!
If youâre hardcore you can definitely try and finish all the prompts though ;). The challenge intensity is adjustable to what suits you. This is a chill event where the goal is to just have fun and vibe, and honor the fungi kingdom with some really cool artđ
I invite you all to come draw mushrooms with me! Use the hashtag #Funguary and #funguary2024 when posting your creations. Iâll be posting some of the creations here, and Iâll also be hanging out in the hashtag and comment sections! Really hope yâall join and draw fungi with međ„°đđż See you all on the first of February, LETS GOOOO!!
Extremely rough first stab at the Taz Vs. Dracula lineup bc I love them all so so much already and donât have the time to finish a lineup of characters for fun rn đ„Č
Close up sketches, design notes and surprise drac under the break:
You donât suck at Lineart, youâre just not familiar with line weightđđŒ!
