hyunjin x female reader x felix
the news gets out that the trio is dating. two idols and an unknown. let’s just say, people don’t react lightly.
The city lights of Seoul blurred past the car window, an endless sea neon that y/n could no longer appreciate. The silence filling the vehicle was heavy, thick and suffocating compared to the peaceful ambience they had earlier in the day. The contrast was extreme.
On the radio, which had been background noise until now, a news reporter’s voice started to speak clinically as Hyunjin reached to turn it up. The reporter spoke, “JYP, the agency for the globally renowned group Stray Kids has confirmed that member Hwang Hyunjin and Lee Felix are currently in a committed polyamorous relationship with a non-celebrity individual, known as y/n l/n. The announcement, made in an effort to combat malicious rumours, has sent shockwaves through the fandom…”
Hyunjin’s knuckles turned white on the steering wheel. Felix, in the passenger seat, reached to turn the radio off. His head was resting against the dirty window, his long hair covering his face. Y/n sat in the back, feeling like a ghost, her phone non-stop buzzing with thousands of notifications from various apps.
It had been their decision. The whispers and rumours online had finally turned to screaming, a clear image of them three out enjoying themselves circulating on twitter with cruel captions and comments. For months on end the rumours were shut down; ‘they’re just friends’ would be said repeatedly by the company, but the lie was becoming a prison. Y/n had looked between the two boys and openly said “I think we need to tell the truth.” And so it happened.
The truth, as it turned out, was a monster.
The first week was a special kind of hell. The hate comments were unbelievable. Unlike y/n had ever heard. Calling them all sorts of names and sending them threats.
But it was the silence in their own shared apartment that was the worst. Felix, their sunshine, their rock, retreated into a shell of very quiet anxiety. He’d still hold to y/n, but his hugs were stiff. Different. Not holding the same warmth. His smiles never reached his eyes. He was internalising all the pain, believing he had failed to protect them.
Hyunjin, their passionate, emotional artist, reacted the opposite way. He was a raw nerve, his temper flaring at the smallest things. He would spend hours doing art, painting his canvases with violent, dark strokes, then emerge and cling to y/n as if she was the only solid ground in a crumbling word.
Y/n, their girl, their love, was quiet. Suddenly too afraid to speak up. Not wanting to say the wrong thing. Every time she left the house she was on edge. Shoulders tense, scared to walk too close to anyone. Her world had turned to constant paranoia. She would cling to the two boys, constantly needing heat.
The pressure was immense.
The three of them, who had always fit together so perfectly, were now like jagged pieces, grinding against each other.
One night, the dam broke. The three were lying in bed, watching a movie. Y/n, in the middle of the two, was on her phone doomscrolling. She came across a post that was talking about how she had manipulated the two idols with lies to get them to date her.
And, unfortunately, Hyunjin’s eyes had drifted to her phone and had read the tweet. “This is unbearable,” he muttered, snatching her phone out of her hands. She reached to get it back but he threw it onto the beanbag in the corner of the room.
“What did you expect, Hyunjin?” Felix asked, looking at the TV still, “this is what we chose.”
“We didn’t choose this,” Hyunjin growled, “we chose to love each other. We didn’t choose to be dissected by millions of people online!”
“It’s the same thing!” Felix finally looked up, snapping at the boy opposite him. “Don’t you get it? Our love is public now. It’s not even ours anymore.” His words made y/n flinch and look down at her hands.
“It’s my fault,” she whispered to no one. “I’m sorry,” she pulled her knees to her chest.
“Is that what you’re saying, Lix?” Hyunjin asked, his hand stroking y/n’s arm. “That we shouldn’t have done it? That y/n is wrong?”
“I’m saying I can’t protect her! That I can’t protect either of you!” Felix’s voice broke. “I look at the comments, I see the things people say, and I feel so…helpless. What if this breaks us?”
The word hung in the air. Break. The unspoken fear they have all been carrying.
“Maybe it already is,” y/n spoke up, her voice still a wounded whisper. She looked from Hyunjin to Felix, her eyes so full of pain. “Maybe some things aren’t meant to survive the light,” her voice cracked at the last word, covering her face completely and silently crying.
Felix crumpled, also burying his face in his hands. Hyunjin sat at the edge of the bed, the silence screaming in his ears. It was their fault. Not just y/n’s. It was their idea. Their agreement. They had broken the most beautiful thing they had ever known.
The next few days had been only silence. The three barely spoke to each other. Maybe the odd ‘good morning’ or ‘how are you?’. That was the height of it. Eventually, Felix had mentioned it.
He had said, “I’m sorry for everything and I love you both so much. I can assure you that us not speaking and staying in silence isn’t going to stop anything. It’s not going to stop idiotic people from hating. We need to learn to manage it, how to speak to each other, not distance ourselves,” by then he had started crying, “please. I need you both. I love you both.”
It had caused the other two to cry and all of them realise their mistakes.
They started relationship therapy to learn to communicate, to not let the outside noise become the soundtrack of their home. Felix started being more open about his anxieties instead of bottling them up. Hyunjin channeled his passion into a new series of paintings, this time with vibrant, bright colours. Y/n found her voice again, learning to stand tall as her own person.
Months later, on a cold, clear winter night, they were at their new apartment, a higher-floor sanctuary with a breathtaking view of the city. The public scrutiny had slowly begun to die down, replaced by a quiet, grudging respect from some, and fervent support from others.
The other members of Stray Kids had of course known about the relationship and the struggles they faced. But they also now knew about their rebuilding and progress. They gave them support and love with open arms.
Felix was baking brownies in the kitchen, the warm, sweet scent of chocolate filling the air. Hyunjin was sketching on the sofa, his feet tucked under y/n’s legs. A soft playlist of their favorite songs was playing in the background.
Y/n looked from one to the other. At Felix, who was now humming, a genuine, easy smile on his face as he carefully placed chocolate chips on the side. At Hyunjin, who looked up from his sketchbook, caught y/n’s gaze, and gave her a soft, private smile that still made her heart skip a beat even after all this time.
It wasn’t perfect. Far from. But their love story would always be complex, a subject of curiosity and sometimes difficulty. But in this moment, it was theirs. It was real. With no negative background noise.
Felix brought over a plate of warm brownies, settling on the floor by y/n’s feet and resting his head on her knee. Hyunjin put his sketchbook aside and leaned his head on y/n’s shoulder, his hand finding Felix’s hair and carding through it gently.
“You know,” Hyunjin murmured, his voice sleepy and content. “I was thinking about my next painting. It’s of three trees.”
“Yeah?” Felix asked, looking up.
“Yeah. Their trunks are separate, standing strong on their own. But if you look closely, up where the branches meet… they’re all intertwined. You can’t tell where one ends and the other begins.”
Y/n felt a wave of overwhelming love so powerful it threatened to overwhelm her. She placed a hand on Felix’s cheek and turned to press a kiss to Hyunjin’s temple.
The city lights twinkled outside the window, no longer a blur of anxiety, but a blanket of stars watching over them. The storm had passed. They were scarred, a little weathered, but they were rooted deep. And they were, finally, undeniably, happy. Together.
